00:00Hello, my name is Asia Grant, and I'm the perfumer of Redo.
00:09I am here at the Ebony's 2024 Beauty Grooming Awards Dinner.
00:14I'm the executive vice president of content at Ebony
00:17and also the president of Ebony Studios.
00:20We're excited to curate a room of creators and influencers
00:25and media and brand owners.
00:29We have some winners of beauty awards in the room today.
00:33The editors and staff do an intensive round of testing
00:37and testimonials and voting to really relate to our audience
00:42what products work for our hair texture,
00:45for our skincare, for our grooming, and so on and so forth.
00:50So, Victor, you take it away.
00:51Thank you guys for being here and check out our awards
00:54and talk amongst yourselves and we'll talk with each other.
00:56So, it's just a matter of talking about how we can move forward
00:59and celebrate black beauty and being black in a new space.
01:03We're broadly pushing the beauty and fashion industry
01:05to repeat upon their standards to be more inclusive.
01:08I not only can support brands by featuring them in my stories,
01:12telling my writers, make sure that we're inclusive
01:15with the founders that we're featuring,
01:18but also advocating for them behind the scenes,
01:22talking to them directly, giving them advice,
01:27and then also challenging my peers that I work with
01:30at Multi-Brand Retailer,
01:32challenging them not only to feature brands of color,
01:35but also giving them the support that they need
01:39and not just throwing them on the shelf.
01:42What changes would you like to see in the beauty industry
01:44that we're considering melanated skin?
01:47The whole industry?
01:48I think I don't focus on the whole industry.
01:49I focus on our community.
01:52I'm the founder of Hyperskin,
01:54which hyper-targets skin of color,
01:56although we create products that work for all.
01:58And I think, for me, as an indie brand founder,
02:00it's where it's best to really just focus on our needs,
02:03our community, our trends.
02:06The brands know that they need to get it done,
02:09but then sometimes they need to hear it from people
02:12that are more in close proximity
02:15because then they're like,
02:15shit, actually, it's not just noise on social media.
02:18It's like, you need to actually get this done
02:20and do it fast.
02:22What are some of the advances you've enjoyed seeing
02:24in the fashion and beauty industry
02:26over the last five years?
02:27I guess range of hues and stuff for women
02:32and Black men who wear makeup as well,
02:34but also seeing the resurgence of Black brands,
02:37like fashion brands, cosmetics coming back.
02:40I think that's been really great to see.
02:42Obviously, it's not our zone, I think,
02:43but it's seeing so much space open up
02:46for Black creatives in that space,
02:49even like Topical and stuff like that.
02:50Such a big brand and this came out
02:52and they did what they had to do,
02:54but seeing how much the consumers needed it
02:57and then the people who had the opportunity
02:59to fill that space, they did a really great job at it.
03:01I've been wearing makeup like crazy the past month
03:04and I have not been breaking out in my head.
03:06It's still really impressive.
03:07It's really good for anti-bacteria and stuff like that.
03:11And then after I was home, I used clean license
03:16and then moisturizer, it's probably Elmer's Pro Collagen.
03:20You know, get that collagen.
03:22And then, that's really it.
03:23I'm actually very basic with my skincare.
03:25I wish it was a makeup question
03:26because it is really one, two, three.
03:28It's really one, two, three.
03:30But yeah, that's my skincare routine.
03:34When do I feel most comfortable in my skin?
03:39All the time, I mean, I guess mostly when I'm home alone
03:42and there's no one looking,
03:45but yeah, when I'm by myself.
03:48Also, when I'm talking to my stories
03:50and there's just like no filter
03:52and I'm being like my most authentic self
03:54and I know it's gonna disappear in 24 hours.
03:56Right?
03:58That's when I feel really comfortable in my skin.
04:00We're doing our part to make sure
04:03that the stories of these brands are always told,
04:05to make sure that the founders of these brands
04:08are always seen.
04:09And if nobody else is gonna celebrate the brands
04:13and give them their flowers and their awards,
04:15then we're gonna do it through beauty and grooming.
04:17Thank you for coming.
04:18Thank you so much for sending your product in as well.
