00:00I remember someone told me you have to meet this guy. He's going to change the world.
00:06And he did.
00:08I met Brian on the 2008 campaign for Obama.
00:12Sandra, what do you look for in a guy?
00:14He's got it all, baby.
00:18We found out Brian had ALS the day we came home from the hospital with our second daughter.
00:23I'd gone to a neurologist for what I thought was a standard checkup.
00:28The doctor said on average people live six months after they're diagnosed.
00:34Every doctor we saw said the same thing.
00:36I'm sorry, but we can't help you.
00:39The system is broken for this disease.
00:41When you're told that the world you believed you were going to live in is no longer there,
00:46you have to either choose to curl up into a ball or act.
00:51So I turned to Sandra and said, I think I want to start an ALS non-profit.
00:55And her response was, no.
00:59And he ignored me like he always does.
01:02If you want to defeat ALS, you need everyone working together.
01:06They took this extraordinary challenge and said, we're going to go out and make things happen.
01:12If we're able to untangle ALS, we might be able to help others.
01:16I am in awe of Brian Wallach.
01:19He wants to give back and take care of the next person that gets diagnosed.
01:26I've never experienced a movement like this.
01:30It's changing history in front of our eyes.
01:35Brian's ALS has accelerated a lot.
01:37We feel like we're running out of time.
01:40Hey Brian, we're going to do this.
01:43Hey Brian, we're going to do this.
01:46There's always been a way.
01:51This guy sure worked.
01:55I don't think there's any test of the human spirit more telling than someone saying,
01:58you don't have a long time to live, and responding in this way.
02:01I am ALS! I am ALS!
02:14I'm exhausted, but this is why I want to be good.
02:20I can't keep up.
02:21You're back to yourself.
