A trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway (Rheilffordd Cwm Rheidol) in mid-Wales, in September.
The railway runs between Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge, a distance of 18.9 kilometres, following the River Rheidol, hence the name. It is built to a narrow gauge, and until 1989 was operated by British Railways (for historic reasons: it had previously been owned by Cambrian Railways, who were absorbed into the Great Western, and so on).

00:00Hello everyone, Shw'maith pawb, Titichi. Today we're on the Vale of Rhydal Railway.
00:12It's a narrow gauge railway that runs between Aberystwyth and Devils Bridge in mid Wales.
00:20It's unusual in that it was run by British Rail until 1989. It opened in 1902 as a mining
00:27railway and very early on became a tourist line instead. It was built to a gauge of 1'11 3⁄4
00:36by not two feet, or 603mm.
01:06It was built to a gauge of 1'11 3⁄4 by not two feet, or 603mm.
01:36The railway has a museum of engines and railway carriages at Aberystwyth.
01:58They have six operational engines as well, three steam locomotives built in the lines
02:04GWR days, and one Garrett steam engine called Drakensberg that was our engine this day.
02:11There were also two diesel locomotives used for shunting and other duties.

08:26The name Devil's Bridge comes from the legend that an old woman lost her cow and saw it wandering on the other side of the river.
08:34The devil appeared and offered to build a bridge in exchange for the soul of the first living creature to pass across the bridge.
08:44When the bridge was completed, rather than the old woman crossing it herself or her cow,
08:51she threw a crust of bread onto the bridge and her dog ran across, so the devil got the soul of her dog.
