00:00WYSF Greenville. News for this hour is presented by the 20th Annual Holiday Fair, November 29th through December 1st.
00:08This is News 4 This Hour.
00:12Good morning, everyone. I'm Ken Sparks. The Matsushita Electric Company of Japan has confirmed that it is buying MCA Corporation, which is the owner of Universal Studios.
00:20With a price tag of more than $6.5 billion, it is the largest purchase by a Japanese company of a U.S. company ever.
00:27Matsushita is Japan's biggest manufacturer of communications and electronics equipment.
00:31I'm Ken Sparks. More news in one hour on WYFF News 4.
00:35Place to be.
00:38Behind these ever-changing doors awaits a spectacular array of cash, merchandise, fun and surprises.
00:47Today, from the Disney MGM Studios in Florida, Stage 1 is packed with people from all over the world, ready to play America's favorite game, Let's Make a Deal!
01:00And now, here's our special guest host, ladies and gentlemen, the big dealer himself, Monty Hall!
01:13Thank you. Thank you very much. Hello, everybody.
01:16I'll pull you right out of the balcony, right? Thank you all for coming.
01:20Hope you have a wonderful time here today as we play Let's Make a Deal.
01:24And we're gonna start off with our deals today by picking the last person in the last row.
01:29Come up and see me, whoever you are. Oh, me Tarzan Eugene! Jennifer Powell.
01:36Oh, you're so demure, you know. I expected, you know, me Tarzan Eugene. You want to react. You don't react to Tarzan, huh?
01:43Yeah, I do. Okay, okay. Listen, I have some money in my pocket right here. I'm gonna let you pick my pocket and take the money.
01:50But before you do, would you rather have the box on the display floor that Diana's showing us right now?
01:56I want the money. She wants the money? Okay. What was inside the box that she could have had?
02:04And Jane goes for money. Jane gets microwave oven.
02:08This Whirlpool microwave oven combines these innovative features to help make your cooking easier.
02:15Quick defrost, auto-sensor, and a keep warm setting keeps food ready until you're ready to eat.
02:21Furnished by Whirlpool, sells for $413.
02:25Well, Jane didn't go for the microwave oven. Jane wanted the money. In my pocket, there was $200 in cash.
02:30That was worth a lot more. Thank you, my dear. Now, you're next. I have money in my left-hand pocket.
02:35And your name is Robert Hodge. Robert, there's money in here. You saw $200 in this pocket. She took it.
02:40You can have the money in this pocket, or in your case, you can have the little box on Georgia's tray.
02:45That Georgia is... Where is Georgia? Oh, here you are, right over here. How could I miss you, Georgia?
02:49This is such a big studio. This is one of the biggest studios I've ever worked in.
02:53Money in my pocket or the box? I'll take the box.
02:58The money in my pocket, I will not show you because I'll just add this money to what I have in my inside pocket
03:03and show you that you have got yourself in a pickle. All kinds of pickles.
03:08All kinds of pickles. All kinds of pickles, sir.
03:13And you know what this show is now called? Let's Make a Dill.
03:18Robert Hodge. Pickles for Robert. Okay, you're next.
03:23I know what you are. You're one of those little kisses, right?
03:28Yeah, oh, you guys want a little kisses, isn't that a cute little kiss? Oh, yeah.
03:33Eat your heart out. Kisses. A kiss for Dill.
03:38Okay, now I put the money that he didn't take inside this pocket, and there was money inside the pocket to begin with.
03:43So now, Becky Mount. Would you like to make a Mountie deal here with Mountie Hall?
03:48All the money in this pocket is yours unless you'd like to have what's behind curtain number two.
03:53She says the curtain.
03:58I open up, and inside this last pocket, there was $500 in the pocket that you didn't take.
04:03Another $100 in this pocket. There was $600 you're not going to get.
04:08Are there more pickles back there for Becky Mount? What has she got behind curtain number two?
04:13This beautiful large screen television.
04:18A large monitor receiver, advanced image for sharpest pictures, and features picture-in-picture capability,
04:23allowing you to watch two shows at once. Furnished by RCA.
04:28It's worth $2,299. Congratulations to Becky Mount.
04:33Thank you all three of you for making this deal with me.
04:38Let's make a Dill. Everybody laughed except you when I said that.
04:43We'll be back with more Dills right after this.
05:13I'm not a complainer, but one thing I've noticed, when I have a headache,
05:18Tylenol helps, but sometimes not enough.
05:23So when I heard that Excedrin came up with aspirin-free Excedrin, I thought I'd try it.
05:28Guess what? It worked better than my extra-strength Tylenol.
05:33I mean, when I can get something that works better on my headache,
05:38Why shouldn't I?
05:43From the makers of Excedrin, aspirin-free Excedrin, at last.
05:48Okay, as we continue on with our show today,
05:53let me pick Dick Johnson's right over here. Would you stand up?
05:58Okay, I'm just checking to see whether you're spelled your name the same way this is a married couple, I take it?
06:03That's Jackie and Robert, right?
06:08You can call me Mister.
06:13We're going to give you a chance to win a very nice prize in this deal, and let me show you what you're going for.
06:18Let's open up curtain number three and show these folks that they will be traveling not by train, but by automobile.
06:23Jackie and Bob, it's Mercury's new Tracer.
06:28The small four-door sedan designed to offer power, economy, comfort, road handling ability,
06:33and interior room in perfect balance.
06:38Furnished by Mercury with tax and license, sells for $10,564.
06:43Okay, now here's the way you can win that car.
06:48We have five items down there on the table. I'm going to ask you to give me the manufacturer's suggested retail selling price.
06:54No discount store price. We go by one standard, and that's what the manufacturer puts on his price, the retail price.
06:59After you give me your prices on all five items, if your total is within $1 of the actual total,
07:06high or low, that's anywhere in a $2 spread, you can have that car.
07:11Now, who's the best shopper in this family? I knew Bob was going to point to her right away, so you've changed places with her.
07:16Let me talk to Jackie over here. Now, Jackie, you're going to give me the prices.
07:22And then we'll see if your total is within $1 high or low. Okay? Here we go with item number one.
07:27This 10-ounce box of banquet frozen chicken nuggets are crispy outside and moist and tender inside.
07:32Pop them in a microwave or regular oven for a snack or a meal for the whole family to enjoy.
07:37You can talk it over with Bob if you want to, but I don't think he knows the first thing about prices. No.
07:42$249. Ring up $249. No, no, no, not that. Ring it up there. $249. That's right.
07:48Okay. No, if you lift that, then we'll all know the price, won't we?
07:52Okay, let's go for the next item, please.
07:55It's a 24-ounce bottle of country kitchen syrup.
07:58Good old-fashioned flavor, also introducing country kitchen light with half the calories, country kitchen syrups.
08:03Without any help from the boondocks, what's the price on the syrup?
08:06$239. I'm sorry, $139.
08:09$139. Ring up $139 on our cash register, please, and take a look at the total as it keeps going up.
08:15We add $139 to the first item.
08:17Okay, and now we'll go on to item number three.
08:20It's a 10.25-ounce can of Franco-American turkey gravy.
08:24Just a little reminder that Franco-American turkey gravy is made with natural meat stocks and juices.
08:29And a price on the gravy?
08:31$0.99.
08:32$0.99. Ring that up. We'll have $487 on the machine when you get around to it, guys.
08:36I just want to tell you about it. Okay.
08:38And now we'll get on to item number four.
08:41It's a package of Hidden Valley Ranch Original Ranch Salad Dressing,
08:44a favorite way to get fresh, homemade dressing for more than 20 years.
08:48All right, now a price on the dressing.
08:51$0.49.
08:52$0.49. Ring that up, and we'll take a look at that.
08:56$536 is right, and now we have the last item.
08:59And listen very carefully. I want to tell you that as you take a look at this, it has a pocket.
09:03You can see that. And it has 100% cotton.
09:06Now let's hear the description.
09:07It's a T-shirt, jerseys, high-quality sweats, T-shirts, shorts, active wear for today's active lifestyle.
09:13Jerseys makes everything and everybody more colorful.
09:17Now we'll take a price on this final item without any help now.
09:21$5.25.
09:22You say $5.25. Now we'll ring that up, and then we'll see what the total is on the board.
09:28That should be $10.61, and there it is. $10.61.
09:31$10.61 now. If you're within a dollar, high or low, if the actual total is anywhere between $9.61 and $11.61,
09:37you have got yourself a car to go home in, right?
09:39Yes.
09:40All right. Now then, I'll tell you what I'm going to do with you.
09:46If you have no faith in your guesses, I'll give you $200 to forget the whole deal.
09:55You said...
09:57I'll run the show.
10:00You said the chicken nuggets were $2.49. The actual price was $2.49.
10:07So that was pretty good, right?
10:09Good.
10:11You feel better about yourself? I'll give you $300 to go off the deal.
10:16You said the price of the syrup was $1.39. The price actually was $2.09, and you lost 70 cents there.
10:23So now you're losing a lot of weight.
10:25You still have the same amount of confidence you had before because now I'm going to offer you $400 to go off this deal.
10:31We'll never hit it, Jack. We're too far off.
10:34Oh, I don't know. Let's go.
10:35You said the gravy was 99 cents. The gravy actually was 59.
10:40So you went high that time. Maybe you picked up some.
10:42See, you got back the other way because it's the total I'm interested in.
10:46So by missing this high and the other one low, you sort of evened out again.
10:50You feel better about yourself?
10:51I'll give you $500 to call off this deal.
10:57No, Marty. Uh-uh.
10:59You said the ranch dressing was 49 cents. The actual cost was $1.03, and you lost 54 cents on that exchange.
11:07So now it's kind of hairy because it comes down to this final item.
11:11And you said the final item was $5.25, and it has to be very close to that for you to win.
11:15So now I'm going to offer you $600 to call off this deal.
11:21What do you want to do?
11:22I don't know.
11:25How far off am I? How far off am I?
11:28Well, I'm not going to tell you.
11:30Help me.
11:31She wants to know how far off am I. If I told you, then you'd know.
11:35I hope you're within a dollar.
11:37But if you're a dollar and one or more away from it, then, of course, you lose everything.
11:42Go for it.
11:43Okay.
11:44They're going to go for it.
11:45But you said the T-shirt was 5.25. My dear, the T-shirt was $10.
11:50And so that's where you knocked yourself out of the box.
11:52The correct total, as we turned over, should have been $16.20.
11:56Yours was $10.61.
11:57And that $5 is the one that knocked you out of the box.
12:00Otherwise, you'd have been in the deal.
12:01So you don't get the car, and you don't get the $600.
12:04What can I... I give you the T-shirt.
12:07And enough money to get home on his railroad.
12:09Here's a couple hundred dollars.
12:10Thank you for being with us.
12:11Oh, thank you.
12:14Thank you for being here.
12:15Thank you, dear.
12:16It was fun having you.
12:17Nice couple.
12:18Aren't they lovely?
12:19We'll be back right after these messages.
12:31Today, when it comes to looking beautiful, give your skin a clean advantage.
12:36CoverGirl Clean Makeup.
12:38It always goes on like Zima Clean.
12:40For a natural, unspoiled kind of beauty.
12:42Whatever the style.
12:45Today, clean is the look.
12:49Because it doesn't look like makeup.
12:51It looks like great skin.
12:53CoverGirl. Redefining beautiful.
12:57Pringle.
13:01Once you pop.
13:03You can't stop.
13:07You hear them.
13:09You grab them.
13:11You want them.
13:13You crunch them.
13:16Once you pop.
13:17Pringle.
13:18You can't stop.
13:21Can't stop, no.
13:22Can't stop, can't stop, can't stop.
13:24Pringle.
13:26You sound miserable, honey.
13:28Oh, I'm gonna make some impressions during my interview tomorrow.
13:31This will help.
13:32Oh, NyQuil.
13:34This isn't my NyQuil.
13:36This is a blue box that says night time.
13:39Only NyQuil is NyQuil.
13:41How do I know I won't be up all night coughing and sneezing?
13:44How do I know I'll be okay for my interview, honey?
13:47She needs NyQuil.
13:49The real night time sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head fever so you can rest medicine.
13:54It's relief she can trust.
13:56At Play School, we know you want to keep your baby entertained in his crib or playpen.
14:00So we make Lullaby Bird.
14:02When baby rocks him, he plays one of ten different tunes.
14:05Or you can set him to play longer.
14:07Play School's Lullaby Bird.
14:09Twenty minutes of easy listening.
14:11Mom, do you ever feel, you know, not so fresh?
14:15Sure, that's why I douche.
14:17But only with natural ingredients.
14:19Who has natural ingredients?
14:20Massagill.
14:21They have vinegar and water or baking soda.
14:23Trust Massagill to make you feel naturally fresh.
14:31Okay, now, in this particular deal, I'm going to ask you, what does it say on your sign?
14:36I'm a red mop ready to mop up a red hot deal.
14:39Rag mop, M-O-P-P, rag mop.
14:42Here we go.
14:43The name is Yvonne Spock.
14:44Yvonne Spock, beam me up, Scotty.
14:47Okay, now, here's what we're going to do for you.
14:49I have a wonderful thing for you that you can go for.
14:51It's behind the video wall.
14:52Let's take a look and see what it is.
14:54And as we take a look at the video wall, it looks like a trip to Mexico.
15:02Yvonne, we're talking six nights and seven fun-filled days at the Hotel Intercontinental Cancun.
15:07One of the newest, most luxurious hotels on this fabulous Caribbean peninsula
15:11where you may enjoy swimming pools, tennis courts, gourmet dining,
15:14and deluxe rooms furnished by Hotel Intercontinental Cancun.
15:19This trip is worth $4,600.
15:25All right, now, here's how we can get that trip to Mexico.
15:28Here, my dear, is half a ticket, right?
15:31Okay.
15:32You want to know where the other half is?
15:33Yes.
15:34It's in one of these four passports.
15:36I have four passports here.
15:38There's a blue and a gray and a burgundy and a black.
15:40And you can choose, and one of them has the other half of that ticket.
15:43And if you can pick it, you're going to go to Mexico.
15:45The others have money inside of them, so you may even get a consolation prize even if you lose.
15:49But if you get the other half of the ticket, that's what we want, right?
15:51Yes.
15:52Yvonne, pick any one that you want.
15:54She picks the burgundy.
15:55All right.
15:56Now, hang on to it.
15:57Don't look inside just yet.
15:58Okay?
15:59Now then, I opened up the black one to show you that that didn't have.
16:04That only had $300 in it.
16:05So that wasn't the other half of the ticket, correct?
16:07Okay.
16:08So we'll throw that one out of play, right?
16:10Don't you?
16:12And so now we have three left, right?
16:15Yes.
16:16Doesn't it feel good to know that your chances are getting better all the time?
16:18Yes.
16:19Let's open up the navy blue one over here and see what's inside this one.
16:21Okay.
16:22And this one had inside here $200.
16:26Okay.
16:27So that wasn't the right one either.
16:32So that means it's either in here or there, right?
16:34Yes.
16:35We're down to it right now.
16:37So I just did that to show you that your chances now are either the gray or the burgundy.
16:40One of them has the ticket going to Mexico.
16:42The other one has nothing.
16:43Maybe a little money in it.
16:44So I will offer you a sure thing now to call off this deal.
16:47And the sure thing is in the floor blocks.
16:49The floor blocks that Diane is showing us right now.
16:51And I'll show you what it is.
16:52And it's a stereo system.
16:54Let's listen to the description by Dean.
16:56It's Sony's 3500 bookshelf component system.
16:59Has an AM FM stereo tuner with 30 random presets.
17:02Double auto reverse cassette deck capable of high speed dubbing.
17:05Phono and CD player furnished by Sony.
17:08And it's worth $950.
17:14$950.
17:15Sure thing if you call off the deal right now.
17:17The chances are it's either here or there.
17:19A sure thing of $950.
17:21It's up to you, Yvonne.
17:22What do you want to do?
17:25She says she's going to go all the way.
17:27So she's not going to get the stereo system.
17:29Let us open up our passports.
17:31Each of us open at the same time.
17:33Mine says half a ticket.
17:37And yours says, not bad, $500.
17:43You get the $500.
17:45He's getting it.
17:50And so you still get $500.
17:51Thank you very much.
17:58Okay, it's time for the big deal.
17:59Worth $11,342.
18:01Two traders have to go for the big deal,
18:03but they have to give up what they won to risk it.
18:05This is a risking part of the game.
18:07Would Becky Mount give up that large screen television worth $2,300?
18:11Becky?
18:12Yes.
18:13Yes, says Becky.
18:14All right.
18:15And Yvonne, would you buy it for $500?
18:17Yes.
18:18So you may still be the winner of the big deal.
18:20Yvonne, we'll see what happens right after these messages.
18:27Mom, are they ready yet?
18:29I'm still working on it.
18:30Rice Krispies treats are so easy to make, they take no time at all.
18:34These things take time.
18:35But they taste so good,
18:38your family will think you slaved over them all afternoon.
18:43And if that's what they think,
18:45well, what they don't know won't hurt them.
18:49Rice Krispies treats.
18:52And this holiday, make some treats for whoever drops in.
18:57When you perm your hair, timing is everything.
18:59Take your rods out too early, your perm's a flop.
19:01Too late, and it's frizz.
19:03But your timing's always right with Precisely Right by Ogilvy.
19:05Precisely Right has automatic shut-off timing.
19:07When it's through, it shuts itself off.
19:09So if you want gorgeous waves and curls every time,
19:12remember, your timing's always right with Precisely Right by Ogilvy.
19:15You just can't get it wrong.
19:18There I was, about to make my theatrical debut.
19:21My family eagerly waited as I made my big entrance.
19:25This Christmas, give the new Kodak Star 35mm camera.
19:30And capture your holiday memories.
19:34Catch a Kodak Star this Christmas.
19:38Mmm, smells good.
19:40Like a Carolina pine forest.
19:42That's Lysol Pine Action.
19:44I cleaned this morning.
19:45It disinfects and works fast.
19:47But the scent lasts for hours.
19:49It's nice, but how'd they get a pine forest in there?
19:53Lysol Pine Action.
19:54The clean of pine every time.
19:57Take a close look at Prego Spaghetti Sauce and Ragu Original Style.
20:01You can see more herbs and spices with Prego.
20:04And Prego's thicker.
20:06If you're looking for great homemade taste,
20:08Prego won't let you down.
20:10It's in there.
20:12Count the reasons you'll need a Presto Fry Daddy deep fryer.
20:15Perfect frying temperature.
20:17Cups of oil, not quarts.
20:18Non-stick finish inside and out.
20:20Store oil to use again.
20:21Handy scoop, not a messy basket.
20:23And the food, delicious.
20:25Presto deep fryers.
20:27Devastation.
20:28Look out!
20:30He's breaking it!
20:32Destruction.
20:33Hang on! Just hang on!
20:34Jack!
20:35We gotta get out of here!
20:36He's a shark!
20:37A disguise.
20:38It's just a fake! It's a trick!
20:39End in a fury of desire.
20:42Days of our lives on NBC.
20:44You might die down here.
20:47The big deal today is worth $11,342.
20:50Is it behind door number one?
20:51Or door number two?
20:53Or door number three?
20:54And, Becky Mount, you have first choice.
20:56You trade away $2,300 for this.
20:58Which door do you want?
20:59Two!
21:00Three.
21:02What's door number three?
21:03Yvonne Spock, 500 bucks for door number...
21:05Two.
21:06All right, now we're gonna show you
21:07what's behind door number three
21:08that you chose for your $2,300.
21:10And behind door number three,
21:11I see...
21:14I see all kinds of gifts,
21:15starting with washers and dryers.
21:17It's the Maytag heavy-duty washer
21:19designed to last longer
21:21with matching commercially proven dryer
21:23worth $1,028.
