00:00And at the United Nations Headquarters, the third day of the 79th session of the UN General
00:05Assembly is underway.
00:07We've been closely following the speeches made today by the representatives and heads
00:11of state of Palestine and Sudan, among others.
00:14To bring us the latest on this and the highlights from this day, our special envoy Jorge Gestoso
00:19from New York.
00:23In this third day of the general debate here at the United Nations, this morning we heard
00:30the presentation of the President of the Authority of Palestine, we're talking about Mr. Mahmoud
00:38Abbas.
00:39He put emphasis that he was not here to respond to the lies, as he mentioned in that term,
00:47and has been doing and saying, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, about the situation.
00:53He said that definitely he's asking the international community to stop right away, immediately,
01:01he says, the crimes, and then he go even further, the genocide that is being victim, the people
01:10of Palestine.
01:11He said that 70% of Gaza has been destroyed.
01:16He's asking, for example, the United States and international community to stop sending
01:23arms and weapons to Israel.
01:26He's asking the release, and it's pretty interesting that he's asking the release of both sides,
01:33for both sides, of the prisoners, of the Palestinian side and also of the Israeli side, according
01:42to his words and terms, 7,000 prisoners in the hands of Israel.
01:50He's asking a full stop, he's asking the beginning of the authority in terms of helping the humanitarian
02:01aid that is needed desperately.
02:03He said there's nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing in Gaza, and definitely they need
02:11the support of the international community.
02:14As we were coming on the air, we were hearing the beginning of the speech of the transitional
02:20president of Haiti, and curiously, he mentioned the issue of the Haitians living in Springfield
02:28in the United States, that it says that he saluted and congratulated that community because
02:35of his trajectory of being perfect, enviable citizens in that country, opposite of what
02:45has been used by the candidate, Donald Trump, the presidential candidate, that he tried
02:52to criticize the Haitian community, saying that the Haitian community on that town is
03:01eating cats and dogs.
03:02So he said, definitely, we do not accept that our community of Haiti in the United
03:10States has a perfect record, is being used in the political campaign.
03:16And definitely, he said that there is a situation in Haiti that is very, very delicate.
03:21As you know, they have been sent 1,000 policemen from Kenya to try to restore security, a country
03:30that is, at least in its capital, Port-au-Prince, is being managed or ruled almost in a big
03:38percentage of gangs.
03:40So in the rest of the morning, we expect the president of Uruguay to take his turn.
03:47In the afternoon, we expect the representatives of Costa Rica and Peru also having turns in
03:55this third day of the general debate.
