00:00What is going on at UNLV?
00:05They're turning into one of the, you know, top power five schools for a shot at a playoff.
00:14When you look at, you know, the way that things set up, it's four conferences matter and screw
00:19everybody else.
00:20Well, they're in that heap of teams from screw everybody else, Bill, that could actually
00:27do it.
00:28And then their quarterback walked off and quit the team.
00:31And some other guy told me he quit too, a running back, because they both claim, Mike,
00:35what happened?
00:36Well, here's the situation.
00:38And obviously there's a lot of back and forth with this story, Scotty.
00:42So quarterback Matt Sluka, who transferred to UNLV in the offseason from Holy Cross,
00:48he played four years at Holy Cross, did great.
00:50This is his fifth year, fifth year senior.
00:54Apparently he says that the offensive coordinator, who's the guy who recruited him to UNLV,
01:01promised him $100,000 to go and play there.
01:05Apparently he was never given that.
01:07They've played a couple weeks into the season.
01:08He's played very well.
01:09UNLV's 3-0.
01:11And apparently he's knocking on the door looking for the money that he has not gotten yet.
01:16The family says they're barely paying his expenses.
01:20They're not getting anywhere near what they were promised.
01:22The school is saying that he came to them in season to renegotiate his deal, which is
01:30a no-no.
01:31Now, the biggest problem of all, as you know, is, and we've talked about this a lot, this
01:35is all a problem, because this is what college athletics is now.
01:39And there are no rules, which is why it's a problem.
01:42The NCAA has no rules.
01:43So that's why we're in the situation that we're in.
01:45This kid's not going to play for UNLV.
01:47The running back's leaving too.
01:49His name is Michael Allen.
01:52They're third or fourth running back on the depth chart.
01:54But the same thing, expectations for opportunities, unfortunately, were not met.
02:00And he's out there as well.
02:02So there's a few guys now saying UNLV did not give them what they promised in terms
02:07of NIL and opportunities.
02:09Well, look, I've been on the side of the river that says that NIL is the haves and the have-nots.
02:17And some kids are getting rich.
02:20That Olivia Dunn is one of them.
02:22She's making more money than anybody, a gymnast, if you can even fathom that, seriously, because,
02:29I mean, I know that it matters to them, and I respect what they do.
02:36But nobody else gives a rat's ass about it.
02:38And the football and basketball are the ones that make the most money, and it should be
02:41that way.
02:43But the problem with it is it's turned it into professional sports.
02:47It's no longer college anything.
02:49The education is meaningless.
02:53The free ride scholarship is meaningless.
02:55None of these kids, very few of them that I believe go to class at all.
03:01Like when you're, if someone's paying you 500 grand to be on a football team, can you
03:04imagine?
03:05I mean, all them brothers down at, you heard me, at Miami, how many go to class, like five
03:11on the whole team?
03:12Like, they don't want to go to class.
03:14They want to get paid, which they are at Miami.
03:16If you want to win in Miami now, you have to pay them.
03:20Just like in the five national championships, except everyone paid them under the table
03:24then to go to Miami, now they pay them legit pro contracts.
03:28It's ruined college sports, and it's particularly ruined it from the end of the stick of people
03:34that don't make any money at all.
03:35The student athlete that's there for the right reasons to get an education, he gets nothing
03:40and can't afford a pizza.
03:44This, of course, all comes, like I said, with UNLV playing some pretty good ball.
03:49The problem is now they're not going to have their quarterback.
03:51They were three and a half point favorites against Fresno State on Saturday afternoon.
03:55That has now dropped Scottie to one and a half.
03:57They are one and a half point favorites, so a couple points off the line there.
04:02They've got another couple, they have a senior quarterback, got some other transfer quarterback.
04:08They've covered every game.
04:09They've been very good, but that kid was playing very well for them.
04:13It's going to be a big loss, no doubt about that.
04:15I'm sure we'll hear more about this mess with the he said, he said in terms of all of the money.
