00:00The pennant races are getting interesting here, Craig.
00:06They wanted, with the extra playoff spot, right, they wanted meaningful games in the
00:11last week of the regular season.
00:13Well, we got them in the American League because it looks nothing like it did a week ago here.
00:18What is your take on what we've got here so far?
00:21It's going to be a fight to the finish.
00:23You know, I think, you know, Yankees and Astros battling record-wise, Cleveland's already
00:27in, of course.
00:28I think most people realize who's going to be in the postseason with the exception of
00:32that final wild-card spot, and let's just call it what it is at this point.
00:36The Twins and the Royals have both fallen apart in September to some degree, and the
00:40Tigers have taken the league by storm.
00:43They're calling up Jackson Jobe today.
00:45He's their top prospect.
00:46He won't be available for the postseason, but he'll pitch today for the Tigers.
00:50They try to push their way in.
00:52Hard to doubt the hot teams, Joe, the last couple of weeks of the Major League Baseball
00:56season.
00:57I do think, in the end, Detroit's got a great shot to get in.
01:00You know, Kansas City, you know, they had a really good season.
01:03I think they will sneak in.
01:04I think the pressure right now is on Minnesota because Minnesota, you know, was in it from
01:09start to finish.
01:10They got three games coming up here against Miami.
01:12I mean, anything less than two of those three wins, I would say there, there's going to
01:16be some trouble in Minneapolis at the end of the season.
01:19Fifteen games, 72-57, above .500, was Minnesota on August 25th.
01:25Since that point, in the last three-plus weeks, nine and 18 to now find themselves
01:31on the outside looking in, entering the final week of this MLB regular season.
01:37Of course, the expanded playoffs in Major League Baseball began in full in 2022.
01:42And Craig, the two pennant winners in the National League in the two playoffs we have
01:46seen have both been a wildcard team, which makes the pennant odds a little bit interesting
01:52to look at.
01:53The Phillies and the Phillies have been the two best teams in the NL, and really, MLB,
01:57all of this year.
01:59And they are still the two favorites to win the National League pennant, plus 164 LA.
02:03Philly, only 40 cents back.
02:06So I ask you the question this way, will the National League pennant winner come from those
02:11two top teams, or will it be somebody on the outside once again?
02:16It would be a guess.
02:17You know, as you said, Ben, the last couple of years, it has not gone the way that the
02:21teams that got the bye won.
02:22If you watch the Phillies' celebration last night after they won, you know, Rob Thompson,
02:26the manager, said that we want the bye, we want the time off.
02:30And so show up tomorrow, be ready to win until we get that.
02:33So that tells you everything you need to know.
02:35You know, at some point, I think the mold will be broken.
02:38It could be potentially this year.
02:40I still do like the Phillies here, and I think the Phillies have a great shot.
02:45I think the American League, to me, is a little bit more wide open than the National League.
02:49I do think that one of those, let's say, first four teams comes out of it.
02:54Maybe that's not, maybe that does seem a little bit wild to me, but I do think an upset could
02:57be brewing in the AL, but hard for me to see the Phillies not in the NLCS at the very least.
03:04I think the Phillies, I mean, the Dodgers have fallen over themselves in the postseason,
03:07so I can't sit here and predict them, but the Phillies, I think they'll be there in
03:11the end.
03:12Whether they get all the way, I'm not clear.
