00:00Thank you very much, Madam President.

00:07Pakistan congratulates Slovenia for convening the Security Council to discuss leadership

00:14for peace.

00:17Proliferating wars in the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere, great power tensions and growing

00:25poverty are threatening the foundations of the world order.

00:31Last Sunday, we approved the Pact for the Future.

00:35We must give life to our commitments, else the future will be bleak and dangerous.

00:42First, we must compel Israel to halt its genocidal war in Gaza and prevent its attempt to provoke

00:52a wider conflict in the Middle East.

00:56Bombing in Beirut is most condemnable.

01:00It is time to apply sanctions against Israel, including an arms and trade embargo.

01:08It is time to hold its leadership accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people.

01:16The Security Council must develop an impartial plan for a ceasefire and peaceful solution

01:25for the war in Ukraine, and not allow its perpetuation or escalation.

01:34The Council can no longer ignore the festering Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

01:40It poses an ever-present ominous threat to international peace and security.

01:47The Council must call for a halt to the massive violations of the fundamental rights of the

01:54Kashmiri people, and implement its own resolution that demands a plebiscite for self-determination

02:04in the Kashmir Valley.

02:07The Council should effectively address the resurgence of the threat of terrorism from

02:14Afghanistan, especially from Daesh, ISIL-K, and the Fatna-al-Khawarij.

02:24The Council must extend active support to the African countries and the African Union

02:31To defeat terrorism and foreign intervention, UN peacekeeping must become more robust and effective.

02:42The Council should initiate confidence-building measures to prevent a war between the major

02:49powers and ease the rising tension, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

02:56Healthy competition between governments is very healthy and good, but must not take the

03:05shape of ugly confrontation.

03:09The Council must declare zero tolerance for the illegal use of force, and revive global

03:16efforts to halt and reverse the new arms race in nuclear and conventional weapons.

03:23It must build controls over new weapons and technologies, including artificial intelligence,

03:31that are making war more likely and more lethal.

03:36Madam President, in cooperation with other Member States, Pakistan shall pursue these

03:44objectives in the Security Council when it assumes its seat in the Council next year.
