00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor for Sussex Newspapers. Now, lovely
00:06this morning to be speaking to Christopher MacArthur-Boyd on his debut tour, his debut
00:11stand-up tour, the first tour with your name above the door, as you say. And this has been,
00:16I should say, you're coming to Brighton and Southampton in our area. This has been a while
00:22in the making, hasn't it? You've been in the business for a little while. How come it's
00:26happening now? What's the determining factor in that respect? Yeah, I suppose being able
00:32to tour on your own bikes is a matter of profile. And I was kind of toiling away on the comedy
00:39club circuit for a long time. And then I opened for Frankie Boyle on his tour. And I opened
00:47for Suzie McCabe on her tour. And then me and Frankie and Suzie started a podcast called
00:52Here Comes the Guillotine. And that's been doing really well. And I guess hopefully we're
01:00just thinking if people listen to that, they may come see me do stand-up. So it's been
01:05a wild ride so far. I've done a fringe run last year of the show, and then one date in
01:13Glasgow in a small venue, and then five dates this year in England at the start of the year.
01:18And now the proper tour's starting. This is the proper life. And that must feel super
01:22exciting but nerve-wracking too. I'm absolutely... I don't know, sometimes I find it quite difficult
01:31to know what my body's telling me. Do you know what I mean? You just have to keep going,
01:37don't you? But you've been the support plenty of times, haven't you? But now you have a
01:42support. Yeah, yeah. I've opened for people now. My pal Roscoe's my opening act, and I
01:47was the best man at his wedding, so I'm really looking forward to just being on the road
01:51with him and spending some time with him and winding each other up. The show is called
01:55Scary Times. What is it that's scaring you? Why are these times scary? Yeah, I think everybody's
02:03kind of scared just now because it seems as if everybody's quality of life's getting a
02:09little bit poorer as the cost of living goes up. But then there's also just the human condition,
02:16so it's kind of hard to balance the scariness of cost of living, you know, butter costing £7.50
02:26sometimes, versus the human condition of, you know, it's agony to be alive sometimes.
02:34You're throwing into all this, you're far too young for it, but you're throwing into all this
02:38a bit of nostalgia too, aren't you? There's a wee bit of nostalgia about top men and
02:45Woolworths and Peck and Mix. Calling it Scary Times and saying it's about the cost of living
02:54crisis and the human condition makes it sound really highfalutin. It's just an hour of kind
02:57of funny stories and jokes. I will clarify that for anybody who's listening. It's not so,
03:03it functions as a stand-up show. I love stand-up, so yeah. Fantastic, good. Well, good luck with the
03:09rest of the tour. Christopher, you're coming to Brighton and Southampton in our area. Hope
03:14it all goes brilliantly. Lovely to speak to you. Thank you. Thank you so much, Phil. I really
03:19appreciate it.
