Exit polls indicate Austria's far-right party has won historic first national election after tapping into voters' fears of immigration and the Ukraine war.

00:00The far right won the most votes in Austria's national elections according to preliminary exit polls.
00:08Anti-immigrant Freedom Party headed by Herbert Kickl could win the biggest share of votes with polls predicting they have around 29%.
00:17While the party has been in government several times before, it has never topped a national parliamentary vote.
00:24Polls put the conservative Austrian People's Party led by Chancellor Karl Nehammer in second place with about 26%.
00:32The far right and conservatives haven't ruled out working together, but Nehammer has said he refuses to work with Kickl.
00:41Center-left Social Democrats are polling at around 20%.
00:47The Greens are currently in a ruling coalition with the conservatives and analysts say even if the Freedom Party win the most votes, it will likely not have enough seats or partners to form a government.
