Local community charities based across Wearside – including Fighting All Cancers Together - have benefitted from a plethora of donations given out by a civil engineering contractor helping to redevelop Sunderland city centre. Money donated by CR Reynolds as part of the new Holmeside car park development, has created more than 100 kindness kits for people facing or recovering from cancer.

00:00FACT is a north east regional charity, we provide cancer support, awareness and education
00:11across the whole region. That can be anything from coffee mornings, counselling, fitness
00:18groups, wigs, mastectomy wear, you name it, we do what people need us to do. But one of
00:24the big things that is of concern for many people and especially people affected financially
00:29by cancer at the moment is cancer related poverty. So a very popular service if we want
00:36to call it that is our kindness kits where we provide food, toiletries, household products
00:42to people struggling financially because of a diagnosis of cancer. Some of these people
00:47are too poorly to visit food banks so we often deliver them but they can pick them up from
00:51our hub that we have just on Blanford Street as well. The donation from CR Reynolds is
00:58very much appreciated and it will be going directly towards providing our kindness kits
01:02in the Sunderland area. This makes a huge difference to the charity because it helps
01:09us provide a service but most importantly a huge difference to the people who are receiving
01:13the kindness kits. CR Reynolds have been working in Sunderland city centre for the past 18
01:18months now and the past 6 months on the car park scheme adjacent to Homeside. The car
01:25park will provide 196 spaces, it will have EV charge points, disabled bays, a cycle storage
01:34room for cyclists entering the surrounding area, city centre. As a company we always
01:42try to give back to the local communities which we are working within so in Sunderland
01:46that's meant that we give donations to 6 local charities. We've also worked with Sunderland
01:51College and we've engaged with 12 work placement students across the past 18 months which has
02:00gone down really well and it's something we aspire to do as a company more often.
