00:00that pitched round about middle and leg bounced a lot and left him it was a good delivery and
00:09perhaps he would have missed that one if it had been early in his innings but starting to see it
00:14more he was able to follow it across and take the outside edge in a very straightforward catch
00:18for Ian Smith that's a powerful stroke nicely placed too by Girasinghe and that's a boundary
00:30as Larsen straight outside the off stump
00:34well it's an indication of where you don't bowl to Osanka Girasinghe
00:39because he played that very very well indeed it was too short
00:42too wide and he picked the gap beautifully he hit the ball very strongly
00:49moved on to the front foot first then saw that it was short and back he went beautifully balanced
01:00he's got this one all right he's got it very fine and you get four runs for it
01:04certainly not out of the textbook but effective enough there's no first slip now
01:09and Oshan picks up four runs off last
01:21well he can't afford to get down there i was just saying that he's got a lovely
01:25line on about off stump going further away but that one he's straight down leg length
01:29and Girasinghe picked it up beautifully
01:31now this is more like the way i bowled actually down leg side and slow
01:42and hit for four in a similar pace he might be just a little sharper than i was
01:49oh
02:05and the end of Oshan
02:08bowled Larsen for 26 because he's tried to hit this on the up and it's a really good delivery
02:13it just shows that you can get it on target the pitch is doing something it pitches quite
02:18a bit outside of stump frees him up he tries to hit it on the up and therefore creates that gap
02:23between bat and pad and through it goes and knocks over off stump good delivery from Larsen
02:31if you've ever doubted that Marble One is the world's finest engine oil
02:35then have a look at these names like Hogan, Rudder, Paddy and Jed
02:40they're young they're raw and they're fighting for their lives against the best
02:44young but they've got talents and guts they'll play their hearts out every man
02:50they're our team so come on New Zealand let's give the boys a hand
03:00DB Draft Limited proud sponsors of the New Zealand cricket team
03:04oh that's a real swing and a heave from the boy
03:15a kill from Morrison and Crow but Ian Smith who took the alleged catch he didn't think it was
03:21touched
03:25getting feeling pretty good here's Chris Pringle now bowling to Rana Tunga
03:29that's a bold shot plenty of wood on that one and that's coming right down to where we're sitting
03:42that's pretty solid stuff too oh that's a huge six
03:51about three rows back into the new Harris stand
03:54and a bit of fielding by some spectators up there
04:02fine bowler that he is Chris Pringle has got to expect a bit of tap towards the end of the 50
04:06over innings short boundaries of course out through the cover extra cover area which has
04:11helped LeBron got a bit of width made width for himself big swing of the arms it's gone again
04:19this time on the leg side and lost up John Wright
04:27the boy goes again it's in the air and Rutherford drops it
04:33not perhaps as easy as it looked it was spinning its way down
04:39and it went in and out again
04:41in the air and might be safe
04:54placed it perfectly really
05:11Rana Tunga is up after quite a lengthy stay bowled by Pringle for 29
05:19so with just one over six balls to go Sri Lanka 171 for eight
05:26and well done Chris Pringle too a lot of fancy footwork there trying to guide the ball as he
05:31has during the whole of his innings he's had 57 balls and missed that one and to his misfortune
05:37it happened to be straight
05:42disappointing for Rana Tunga but he's carried them through to the last over
05:51yes they take a single off the last ball so indeed it will be 177
05:56Sri Lanka finished their 50 overs at 177 for eight and New Zealand will need to score 178
06:03to win this Bank of New Zealand's Cup match here at McLean Park in Napier here is the scoreboard
06:10Sri Lanka got away to a very slow start a good start by the New Zealand bowlers
06:15and although those top water batsmen scored consistently they didn't score all that quickly
06:20and the bowlers have done a very good job indeed you see they're all very consistent
06:24in keeping the pressure on the Sri Lankan batsmen they had some moisture in the pitch
06:29they were able to do their job well and they conceded it very well New Zealand's target to
06:34win in the afternoon part of this game therefore 178 highlights of their run chase in just a moment
06:39178 to win this afternoon they lost early wickets with a readout for 19 and crow out for three good
06:44partnership then between John Wright and Andrew Jones John Wright got through to 64 here he is
06:48facing the leg spinner Ahsoka Da Silva
06:57he's gone this time Wright uses his feet well bowled Da Silva bowled it beautifully
07:04and he's caught behind point by Ramanayaka no Ratnayaka it was Ramesh Ratnayaka made the catch
07:14so Wright caught Ratnayaka bowled Ahsoka for 64. Well Wright's charged again and generally he's
07:22been able to hit it down to mid-off and mid-on and get at least a single there this one just
07:26skidded on with the arm a little bit it was a bit wide of him wide of off stump and he didn't get
07:30close enough to it still tried to force it it took an outside edge and went to Ramesh Ratnayaka
07:37so Wright's out and it just makes a little bit of a difference to this game now for Sri Lanka
07:42126 for three and Smith now on strike and he's got two slips in Sri Lanka
07:53oh he's got first ball more bounce and Ian Smith from the first ball that he receives gets probably
08:01the second nastiest ball of the day and he's gone but it's certainly a nasty delivery that's
08:08really taken off let's watch the bounce here he digs it in slightly short of a length but
08:13you saw Smithy there just raised himself up the ball flew off the outside edge
08:19and taken well taken by the keeper
08:27oh he's found the gap it was in the air the great batch manages to find that gap
08:32a big chase for that very quick man Jaya Surya two runs to great batch
08:41well great batch waited for the slower ball clipped it into the covers
08:47and Aravinda can't prevent the two single the two runs taken
08:51that was a better shot from great batch there he checked it got his foot across to it
08:56and just leant on it through the covers for a very controlled two
09:01runs
09:04quicker ball hit well great pitch can give it away he doesn't need to run
09:11the crowd tells it didn't hit it as well as he'd like
09:15but he hit it in the gap and he kept it on the ground and it's 149 for four
09:21yes he'd be pleased with that one certainly got hold of it and on the slow outfield it
09:26still made it across the boundary comfortably enough width there for him to clip it in front
09:31of point for four
09:39down the leg side a bat and at the second grab Hisham Kalikaratne made the catch Hisoka has
09:45his second wicket he is two for 33 now and when the wicket fell it was 153 for five
09:56well that's a big bold hit by Mark Greatbatch didn't hit him a couple
10:05for New Zealand's edging all the time closer to victory 178 is their target
10:17good shot by Chris Harris
10:21has he got enough juice on to get to that boundary rope it would appear not
10:25nobody fielding away down at long on set a maker with the big chase and they ran three
10:39oh that's good running between the two of them Harris is very quick and he spurred Greatbatch
10:44into it yes and that's an example of it not really being scorable from or not easily and
10:51yet he's pushed it away through the gap and still scored two from what
10:54normally would be a dot ball so 172 for five
11:00now it's Ratanaka to Greatbatch
11:03oh he's found that gap again he's found it a lot today and that was from the back foot
11:11they think about the second slide a wee bit as a third rather
11:15slip away a bit and decline it but that means the Greatbatch is starting to stroke the ball
11:22so much better now from the back foot he went cracked the ball through the gap
11:35it's 174 as Greatbatch goes through the gap again and that's through to the boundary
11:44174 becomes 178 and Greatbatch has brought the game to a conclusion in the 43rd over
11:54Greatbatch 29 not out Harris is 11 not out New Zealand at 178 for five a five wicket win
12:02which means that we've now had four one day internationals at McLean Park in Napier
12:06and New Zealand has won all four comfortable victory for New Zealand and we'll return to
12:12McLean Park very shortly with the McDonald's shot of the day and the Ubix MVP award
12:17and about today's Ubix MVP award and this is the final decision remember a Ubix
12:23MVP award for both today and for the series first of all here's today's list of points with John
12:29Wright getting three points and declared today's Ubix MVP to go with his Bank of New Zealand
12:33Man of the Match award Chris Harris for his fielding and the fact that he was there at
12:36the end with 11 not out gets two points and Gavin Larson with two for 25 from 10 overs picks up the
12:43third point remember we'll be keeping tabs on the points during the series but John Wright the early
12:48leader and a double for you John with the Man of the Match and along with the MVP award congratulations
12:54well batted 64 today you feel happy back at the top of the innings uh it feels a little bit more
12:58comfortable but normal um it wasn't exactly a raging success at number three but um yeah it
13:04feels uh you know i'm more used to walking out when there's two of us just myself i think how do
13:10you rate these uh Sri Lankan bowlers well it's it's a little bit different from facing the Australian
13:16attack to be honest uh you know i think really that's one of the strengths of the Aussie side
13:21is that they don't give you a lot to hit and they bowl very very straight um you know i don't think
13:26the Sri Lankans are quite in that class um i don't think any side is really in many ways so uh
13:31batting's a little bit easier that pitch was still doing just enough though to keep the seam
13:35bowlers encouraged for most of the day though wasn't it yeah there was a little bit there um
13:39you know the odd odd bit of seam and and uh the odd one you know a little bit inconsistent in
13:44balance uh not really the the normal Napier batting wicket which is normally you know it's
13:51a batter's dream but uh nevertheless it wasn't a bad wicket it was you know a reasonable wicket
13:55John Wright thanks very much for talking with us congratulations on your batting and on your
13:59awards today John Wright both the man of the match and the Ubix MVP time now for the
14:04given a bit of words by uh Ramanayaka
14:13I think it was uh Grant LeBroy who was the bowler but outside the off stump right in the slot for
14:17Richard Reid who really loves to play that thumping cover drive and we've decreed that
14:22that shot was today's McDonald's action shot of the day it was part of that uh New Zealand
14:28thumping start they made uh 46 together uh John Wright and Richard Reid and once again New Zealand
14:35had a fine start and the good thing about the New Zealand batting effort today I think in previous
14:39One Day Internationals the team itself would agree that uh despite the the good starts they've been
14:43having the middle order hazard time struggled today it didn't with Andrew Jones playing a vital
14:47role Martin Crowe went cheaply today sadly for him but John Wright and Andrew Jones with a fine
14:52stand for the third wicket ensured that the victory was always very much on as far as New
14:56Zealand were concerned and even when John Wright and Ian Smith went in virtually quick succession
15:01or did go in quick succession with Ian Smith out first ball today New Zealand was still cruising
15:06to victory with Mark Greatbatch and Chris Harris there at the end so New Zealand are the winners
15:12of this first Bank of New Zealand Cup match here at McLean Park in Napier today and now we go to
