00:00Hello, I'm Dan Wakeford, the editor-in-chief of Us Weekly.
00:07In this week's cover story, we're taking a look at Diddy's harsh new reality and his
00:12life behind bars after his arrest on September 16th after being indicted on charges of sex
00:17trafficking and racketeering.
00:19Former inmates spoke with us about what it's really like inside America's so-called worst
00:24prison, with one saying that the millionaire rapper will never be the same again after
00:28calling the deplorable conditions of the jail home.
00:31Prison is a primal fear for humans. It's the stuff all of our nightmares are made of, and
00:36the stark contrast of Diddy's previous existence and his new one makes this story particularly
00:41compelling.
00:42Diddy's day-to-day life while being behind bars is a far cry from the one he's often
00:46rapped about and showed off on social media, with a personal chef, assistants and staff
00:51catering to his every whim.
00:52He's currently sitting in a tiny, colourless cell at the Metropolitan Detention Centre
00:57in Brooklyn, New York, where he will be subjected to regular strip searches, limited shower
01:02access and little contact with his loved ones, not to mention the threat of violence.
01:07This is very different from his pampered life at home in his $35 million, 8,000 square foot
01:13Miami mansion, where he was protected by private security guards and surrounded by his friends
01:19and family.
01:20Diddy's attorney, Mark Agnifilo, has expressed concerns about his high-profile client's safety
01:25inside the notoriously dangerous jail, where he says he's been told that the food is inedible.
01:31After Diddy was recently denied bail, his attorney added,
01:34It's violent. Someone like Mr. Coombs might be a target for certain things. We can't let that happen.
01:41We spoke to many ex-inhabitants of the prison and also with prison consultant Sam Mangle,
01:46who described sections of the facility as pure hell and added that the Metropolitan
01:51Detention Centre is probably the worst federal detention centre in the country.
01:57A widow of a former inmate, Ashley Cordero, told us,
02:00The prison is disgusting. They have rats running through there and everything. No human should
02:05be living like that.
02:06Mangle further said that Diddy's estimated $600 million worth won't help him in prison.
02:12He explained,
02:13People on the outside world view you as a 10, but you automatically become a 5 in prison.
02:19It's a whole other world. Diddy's charges are problematic in the Bureau of Prisons.
02:24It would not surprise me at all if other people were screaming and threatening him.
02:29To date, Diddy has denied all charges against him and entered a not guilty plea.
