00:00Thank you very much indeed. Thank you.
00:05Well, tonight we have with us a designer, Sue Sanderlands.
00:09Sue, what kind of things do you design?
00:12Printed fabrics.
00:13Say that again?
00:14Printed fabrics.
00:15Well, have you got any samples?
00:16Yes, you're sitting on them.
00:17Oh, sorry about that.
00:19I see, yeah.
00:20Now, what's your favorite kind of design?
00:21What do you do most of the time in terms of designing?
00:24I like doing florals and botanical greenhouses and things like that.
00:27Greenhouses?
00:28Yes, and these are based on oriental carpets.
00:30Oh, are they?
00:31Actually, I noticed in our audience we have some orientals in.
00:33Hello, orientals.
00:36Anyway, you mentioned botanical, which I find very interesting because I happen to be a botanical type of person.
00:41You couldn't do one sort of with a potted plant in it or something?
00:44Palms, yes. I've got just the thing.
00:45You've got some?
00:46Yes.
00:47I shall place my orders after the show.
00:48Right.
00:49Well, actually, I must say that shows like this tend to make me feel a bit ancient.
00:52You know, when you think that the first guest was 15 and my next guest is only 18.
00:59She's Australian and she comes from Australia.
01:02And she's been singing professionally, though, since she was 12.
01:08And last year she had a record at the top of the charts there for seven consecutive weeks.
01:13And she's going to sing for us tonight a record that she just recently recorded in London.
01:17Ladies and gentlemen, Debbie Byrne.
01:23It happens every time I look into your eyes I can almost see into your heart
01:44Oh, how can I explain when time and time again it stops
01:52It only happens when I look at you It only happens when I look at you
02:12Wonder if you know the things I'm going through Can't you see my life depends on you
02:22Get stronger every day Believe me when I say it's true
02:31It only happens when I look at you It only happens when I look at you
03:02It only happens when I look at you It only happens when I look at you
03:29If you know the way I feel about you now Wonder if you feel the same way too
03:38No matter what you say I'll get to you someday, it's true
03:48It only happens when I look at you It only happens when I look at you
04:07Now it only happens Now it only happens if I look at you
04:17Now it only happens Now it only happens if I look at you
04:36Thank you, thank you Debbie.
04:41Well now, you probably noticed in that last song the use of a rather lovely picture.
04:46And it just so happens we have the painters with us, Boyd and Evans.
04:50Now, who is which, or what?
04:52I'm Boyd.
04:53And I'm Evans.
04:54Well now listen, I know that you're a married couple of course.
04:56And I also know that painters tend to sort of work solo.
04:59So, I mean, how does the kind of partnership thing work out?
05:02We started as an experiment, and as time went by we found that it gets less and less possible
05:09because we have two children now.
05:10And so nowadays we just take time and time, about three weeks each,
05:15one working, the other being a housewife.
05:17Babysitting.
05:18Babysitting, yes.
05:19Well, I mean, is there anything specific that I should see in that picture?
05:23I mean, is there any special meaning?
05:26I suppose in the end the meaning's in the viewer's head.
05:29But I could tell you something about what it means to us.
05:31Not what it means to us, some of the things that interest us.
05:33Yeah.
05:34Well, if you think of it as a frozen story, this is the particular moment we've chosen,
05:39the hands across the face.
05:41It's sort of hiding the face, we'll never see that.
05:44There's also the slight doubt about whether the cyclist's going to get wet,
05:47if the water's really this deep.
05:49And the others, the graphic interest for us, are these black dots,
05:53which is, after all, all they are.
05:55But because they're in the sky, they represent birds.
05:57And because they're on the water, they represent a reflection.
06:00It also suggests the water.
06:02And after that, it's just a picture of space.
06:04Now, one other thing.
06:06I mean, is that a scene that you actually saw?
06:08I mean, did that actually happen in front of your eyes, and then you decided to paint it?
06:11Well, we work from photographs all the time.
06:13And this is, in fact, a composition of a couple of photographs,
06:16which we felt had some meaning to each other.
06:20Well, I think putting them together works. It looks lovely.
06:23So, I mean, is there a place we can come and see your pictures?
06:25Yes, at the Angela Flowers Gallery in Soho.
06:28Thanks a lot. Thanks for coming along.
06:29Well, now...
