Tensions are escalating in the Middle East and the US has once again found itself directly embroiled. On Tuesday Iranian missiles were fired at Israel and a US warship stationed in nearby waters intercepted some of them. Veuer’s Tony Spitz has the details.

00:00Tensions are escalating in the Middle East, and the U.S. has once again found itself directly embroiled.
00:06On Tuesday, Iranian missiles were fired at Israel, and U.S. warships stationed in nearby waters intercepted some of them.
00:13Reports indicate Iran fired some 180 missiles at targets all over Israel.
00:18The IDF says they were able to stop a large number of them, but in close coordination with the U.S. military,
00:24they were able to prevent the rest from hitting their targets.
00:27With White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan telling reporters that there has been no damage to any military assets in Israel,
00:34and that the attack was ineffective.
00:37Around a dozen interceptors were fired by the USS Bulkhley and USS Cole.
00:41Iran has stated that the attack was in retaliation for Israel's killing of a Hamas and a Hezbollah leader.
00:47Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran just a couple of months ago,
00:52and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Beirut just last week.
00:56This is the second time this year that U.S. warships have helped shield Israel from incoming attacks from Iran.
