Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia
The largest and oldest national park in the Republic of Croatia is the Plitvice Lakes. This region has traditionally drawn nature enthusiasts because of its extraordinary natural splendour. As a result, on April 8th, 1949, it was designated as the Republic of Croatia's first national park. When Plitvice Lakes was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List on October 26, 1979, it was recognised for its remarkable universal value in the process of tufa creation, which creates tufa barriers and lakes as a result.


With a few smaller parts covered by grasses, the park is mostly covered in forest vegetation. The lakes, which make up the majority of the park's most appealing features, occupy less than 1% of its overall area.

02:24have more indented and gentler
02:26shorelines than the lower lakes,
02:28and were formed on impermeable
02:30dolomite rock.
02:34The lakes Milinovac,
02:36Gavanovac, Kalurovac,
02:38and Novakovojebrod make up
02:40the lower lakes, which were produced
02:42in permeable limestone substrate
02:44and carved into a deep canyon
02:46with high cliffs.
02:50The spectacular Sistevci
02:52waterfalls, which are the
02:54culmination of the lakes,
02:56have the Korana river rising
02:58beneath their base.

03:04visitors with four hiking trails
03:06and seven various ways
03:08to explore the lake system.
