00:00Welcome to the dressing room, not what you'd expect. I'm a professor at all times, I obey my instructions, watch your heads. Any questions? Let's go to work.
00:07Real atmosphere here, packed with Danny Quartermain fans.
00:12Seems like half of Leamington have made the trip to the Skydome in the white and blue sparkly trunks.
00:19The recently turned 27-year-old birthday boy yesterday, will it be a big present tonight?
00:27The IBF European super featherweight champion, and he challenges for the WBO, which is vacant at the moment.
00:34James Terengary, overweight at the weigh-in, but could spring an upset.
00:39He's coming late, and he's very decent.
00:43And Quartermain hasn't been preparing for him, and Dave, that could be an issue.
00:47Yeah, it's always slippery if you get a last-minute opponent, complete change in style, focus.
00:57You've just got to go in there and you've got to suss them out, not rush in, not walk on something you're not expecting.
01:04Settle, have a look, and get your work done.
01:08Yeah, another step up here for Quartermain.
01:11Terengary is very, very tough, very experienced, we've seen him in the past before.
01:17And when things are not going quite his way, he's got that ability to have a bite down on his gumshield.
01:22He went the distance with John and Carol, didn't he? That's a good result.
01:26Very good result, and Spencer just said it, experience.
01:29When you're in with somebody that's experienced, and you're not so experienced in, that can be an advantage to them straight away.
01:37Oh, God!
01:39And Terengary knocks him down in the first round, Quartermain, he didn't like it.
01:46But inside the first minute and 15, how about that? Danny Quartermain on the canvas.
01:52Yeah, caught cold there.
01:54It's a short shot, he didn't see it, and just seemed to take the legs away.
02:01He's got to forget about trying to win this round now.
02:03Look, he can't be diving in like that, walk onto something.
02:07He's steady.
02:08Ego can't play a part now, he's got to forget that, that's history, that's gone.
02:13He's got to keep his composure, keep the game together here.
02:17The round is gone, just get, look, look, he's got to switch on.
02:21And he's got his head in this game right now.
02:23Absolutely, seems to be bothered, irritated by that flash knockdown.
02:30Can't come charging in, Terengary is experienced.
02:34Went in with Liam Parrow as well, and we've seen what he's done.
02:39And he's been really relaxed this week as well.
02:42James Charity came in, happy to be here.
02:47Nothing to lose.
02:48He's going to walk on something, he's not fighting with any intelligence here.
02:53Body shot, and the eye, the left eye slightly puffy as well already for Danny Quartermain.
02:58Just get behind the jab and sit back a little bit, just look at this.
03:03Coming in straight lines, head down, which is a bad thing to do against Charity.
03:07Charity just there, staying composed, waiting for the counterpunch.
03:11Dangerous for that right hand through the middle.
03:13And those left hooks especially are dangerous as well.
03:16Quartermain has to be careful here in this opening round.
03:19So just pop that jab, keep your distance, get your legs back, get your head back.
03:28What a surprise in the opening round.
03:30Few saw that coming.
03:32Not a big puncher, James Charity, but Quartermain caught.
03:39And a 10-8 round for the Romanian.
03:41Now he's got to forget about that round.
03:43It's gone, you can't do anything about it.
03:45Don't go out there trying to claw it back too quick.
03:48He's got to start again, like it's round one, just settle into the fight.
03:54Here we take a look at the shot, some reaction.
03:56Short hook, wasn't it?
03:57Left hook.
03:59Caught cold.
04:01Dave, as you know, that first round when you're not warm and your body's not going,
04:06the adrenaline's not pumping the way it should be, you get caught with headshots
04:10and it takes the legs away.
04:11It was a strange one, he shrugged his shoulders as if to say that,
04:14come on, I'm all right, but he's down.
04:16It's 10-8 and it's a bad start for Danny Quartermain.
04:20But what was worse was the way he charged in.
04:23Got to just keep calm and start again almost now.
04:28He's right up on his feet, ready to go, wants to get on with it.
04:32Cherokee using every second of the minute.
04:35When something like that happens, you can't do anything about it,
04:38it all depends on how you react to it.
04:43Body shot from Cherokee.
04:45He started whipping up because he's seeing it every time he comes in,
04:48he's coming in with his head low.
04:49Yeah, Quartermain playing a dangerous game here
04:52because he's trying to charge forward in those straight lines.
04:54Like Dave said, head down low.
04:56And Cherokee has read that, he's too experienced for that.
04:59But that is his style, Quartermain.
05:02He's aggressive, he's all action.
05:04That's why the fans love him.
05:19I mean, he was non-stop, wasn't he, against Alex Ratt.
05:22He didn't give Ratt a moment to breathe.
05:24No, I think he recognizes though that Cherokee is heavy-handed.
05:28He missed the weight, didn't he?
05:29So there's a bit of weight advantage there as well.
05:31We've got to take that into account.
05:35Yeah, he was way over Cherokee
05:37and cannot win the titles tonight.
05:40But again, this is why you've got to be a little bit intelligent
05:43and think, OK, this guy's going to be naturally bigger than me.
05:46Dave, you hit the nail on the head there, mate.
05:48It's got to be educated pressure.
05:50If that's the way that you fight, you can't be reckless.
05:52At this level, this is where you get found out.
05:55If you're reckless, you get caught with one shot and that's it.
05:58Cherokee, although he's only got eight knockouts out of his 20 victories,
06:02he looks quite heavy-handed, actually.
06:05Trying to work on the inside and target the body, Quartermain.
06:09But keeping nice and tight, Cherokee.
06:17Look at his right eye, Quartermain's right eye.
06:21Yeah, that's those left hooks that have been landing.
06:22And again there, the left hook goes in.
06:24Looks dangerous for that shot, doesn't he?
06:25And look how calm he looks, Cherokee.
06:31Just chopping punches, finding the target, staying smooth.
06:39And good jabs as well.
06:45Quartermain just trying to rough him up.
06:48But is that the right tactic, Dave?
06:50He looks very calm, Cherokee.
06:52You know, he's...
06:54In fact, Quartermain's using a lot of energy,
06:57trying to lean on him and rushing bulldoze forward.
06:59Look how calm he is there.
07:03Unbeaten so far, Danny Quartermain, in 11.
07:08Unfortunately for Quartermain at the moment, no,
07:10this is not educating what he's doing.
07:12He's trying to bulldoze his way in and Cherokee has been there,
07:15seen it, done it. He's got that t-shirt.
07:17He's been in with experienced guys.
07:19So this reckless approach from Quartermain is not the right approach.
07:26Plemish under the right eye, down in the first round.
07:34And frustrated, Quartermain.
07:41Cherokee just lifts his arm up as if to say,
07:44this is cool. I'm enjoying this.
07:46There's about five people here from Romania
07:50and hundreds from Leamington Spa.
07:52He doesn't matter. He's doing his work in the ring.
07:55That's what he does.
07:56Listen, he should be enjoying it.
07:57He's had a 10-8 round in that first round.
07:59He's won that second round, 10-9 as well.
08:02He's the one that looks like the champion in there.
08:04He's staying nice and composed.
08:06He's not panicking when he's under pressure.
08:08He's tucking up nice and tight.
08:10His inside work is especially affected as well.
08:13Quartermain looks very reckless in there.
08:15And he's very economical what he's doing, Cherokee.
08:18He's not throwing loads and loads of punches.
08:20He's just picking the shots when he wants to work.
08:22I thought that was a really good point from Spencer.
08:24He looks like the champion in there, doesn't he?
08:27Really calm, collected.
08:29I've done it before and he has fought at a higher level.
08:32And that's the difference.
08:34That's the difference.
08:35Whether you win or you lose, when you fight good fighters,
08:38when you're sharing the ring with good fighters,
08:40you take something away from those fighters.
08:42He's lost four times, but in really good company.
08:45Quartermain charging in like a bull.
08:48He wants to...
08:49And look how calm Cherokee is.
08:51He's just clamped him up, stuffing in any attacks,
08:53anything solid coming through.
08:55And he's not burning much energy there.
08:58It's almost like he's desperate, isn't he, Quartermain?
09:02Yeah.
09:03There's no real thought process around
09:06what Quartermain's doing at the moment.
09:07No, it's all very, very reckless.
09:10Very messy.
09:11He needs to regroup here.
09:12He needs to pull himself together.
09:13We know that he's got that boxing brain.
09:15And I need to see a little bit of that
09:17because this bulldozing, reckless approach,
09:20I'm not sure it's going to get him through.
09:30He's got to be careful he doesn't walk onto one.
09:32When he comes in like that, he's got his head,
09:33he's leaning forward.
09:35Cherokee there with that gain.
09:36He said that from round one.
09:38He's just waiting, isn't he, to counter him as he comes in.
09:40What he's doing is once he starts slowing down a little bit,
09:44and he'll make the same attacking moves,
09:46and because he'll be slower,
09:48Cherokee will be able to catch him with a time counter.
09:55Yeah, Cherokee just waiting there.
09:57You can see he's just waiting to take that half a step back,
09:59and he's going to drill those uppercuts in
10:01as Quartermain comes forward.
10:03Quartermain has to be a bit patient here.
10:05He needs to be a bit creative.
10:07He needs to use his imagination a little bit.
10:10Set some traps and start doing something a little different.
10:13That one-dimensional walking forward won't work here.
10:23That's better from Quartermain.
10:28Oh, and again the uppercut there.
10:31Just as he's coming in, he's got to be careful of that shot.
10:33That right uppercut is a real dangerous shot from Cherokee,
10:37and he's read it.
10:38He's seen what's going on here.
10:41It's obvious, Quartermain just wants to walk him down,
10:43bully him, and try and break his heart.
10:52But where's the jab?
10:53Where's the boxing?
11:11Body shot from Quartermain.
11:14Body shot from Quartermain.
11:17Not as much from Cherokee.
11:23Messy around the third.
11:27Yeah, Quartermain really just trying to hustle his way through this one,
11:30trying to bulldoze his way through it, really.
11:32Not a lot of thought process going in there.
11:35He's got to be careful he doesn't get caught on the way in.
11:38Cherokee, for the first time, we've seen him complaining.
11:41Is that a sign?
11:59That's a closer round, but did Quartermain do enough to nick it tonight?
12:05Don't miss that on DAZN.
12:08So much boxing coming to you at the moment.
12:12And we're enjoying this one at the Skydome in Coventry.
12:15We've had one big win for Italy.
12:17They didn't win the football tonight, but one big win in the boxing ring.
12:21How about Romania?
12:22Absolutely.
12:23Listen, he started very well there, Cherokee,
12:26for us winning the first three rounds.
12:2810-8 in that first round as well.
12:30So Quartermain has to be careful here.
12:32He's got to start using his brain a little bit.
12:35He done better in that last round, but let's see him build on that now.
12:39We need to see a little bit more.
12:40Come off that straight line, step to the side, be creative.
12:44Use your imagination a little bit, because
12:47he's got to be careful he doesn't walk into one.
12:50Only the 49th round of his career, Danny Quartermain.
12:55And it's the 150th for James Cherokee.
12:59There's a big difference there.
13:03And when you add in the quality of opposition as well.
13:07Yeah, really good fighters he's been in with.
13:13Coming off a win.
13:15And he lost it.
13:16Liam Parra was stopped.
13:21But it's that sort of calibre and class.
13:24Quartermain just, as you said, that word reckless.
13:27Yep, that's exactly what he is.
13:29And, you know, he's trying to use that in this contest.
13:34It's sort of doing a bad start for him.
13:36He's now starting to settle down just a little bit.
13:39Cherokee, is he starting to show signs of frustration now, Dave?
13:43You know, when he's coming as a late notice opponent,
13:47you don't know how fit he is.
13:49You know, as the rounds go on, is that going to be a factor?
13:52Will Quartermain's fitness get him through?
13:54You know, sometimes you can drag yourself through a bad performance to get the win.
13:58Better work from Quartermain.
14:00Getting his jab going.
14:01Tries the uppercut, Cherokee.
14:02But this is what the Leamington Spa fans want to see.
14:07The beautiful city of Leamington.
14:09About 15 minutes away from us here in Coventry.
14:14Head down there again from Quartermain.
14:17Dangerous tactics.
14:20He's trying to bulldoze his way through this one.
14:23But he's smothering his own work a little bit.
14:25Yeah, totally agree.
14:26Totally agree.
14:28Yeah, it's not particularly pleasant to watch.
14:31And we know he's got a lot more in the locker than that.
14:34So, he just showed a nice jab.
14:36He has got a nice jab when you use it.
14:38He has.
14:39He's got a cut on top of his head as well.
14:41And we've seen that before.
14:42Yeah, absolutely.
14:44Listen, when we saw him winning that one fight against Antwerp.
14:48He was controlling the space.
14:49He was working well off the jab.
14:50Putting the shots together.
14:52We haven't seen that yet.
14:53I think that 10-8 round sort of un-muscled him.
14:55Let's hope now he's starting to settle down.
14:57He's allowing himself space.
14:59He's punching from his own space there.
15:01He's having more success.
15:02This is much better.
15:04When he's at distance and Chaudhry not landing.
15:06No.
15:06Quartermain, centre ring.
15:10Getting that jab going.
15:13This is a little bit better from Danny Quartermain.
15:16Although that eye doesn't look great and the cut to the head.
15:19This is a rough one.
15:20It's a tough start.
15:21He needs to keep popping his jab there.
15:23When nothing's happening, pop the jab.
15:25He's landing and just giving Chaudhry a shot.
15:28Just pop the jab.
15:29Best round though of the fight for Danny Quartermain.
15:32Yeah.
15:32Yeah, totally agree with that.
15:35A little bit reckless there again.
15:36But he's definitely done enough to win this round.
15:38And there's less coming back from Chaudhry.
15:41As you guys said, last minute replacement.
15:43And you don't really know what sort of fitness he's got.
15:47Yeah, Chaudhry just nodded.
15:51Oh.
15:52That was a little left up.
15:55I think caught Quartermain on that eye.
15:58Yeah, but that was a good shot from Quartermain.
16:00And a better round.
16:01Look, his eye's cut.
16:02Yeah, his eye's cut as well as the mark underneath it.
16:05The bruising and the cut to the head, I think.
16:09There's all sorts for him to work on.
16:10Edwin Cleary and John Pegg in the corner.
16:14But it was a better session.
16:16Yeah.
16:17Yeah, he definitely won that round.
16:18Quartermain, he showed a little bit more calmness in there.
16:22Started picking his shots a little bit more.
16:24There was a more full process going around what he was trying to achieve there.
16:29And he didn't rush it as much, did he?
16:30No, no, much better.
16:32We see some of the action in that round.
16:34The body shot went in there.
16:36And there we saw him working behind the jab.
16:38And we haven't seen that much in this contest.
16:41Little bit of frustration there from Cherokee.
16:43Just wait, wait for him.
16:45But a much better round there from Quartermain.
16:47He now needs to build on that.
16:54Fifth round.
16:56The white and blue, but bloodstained now, shorts of Danny Quartermain.
17:00The black and gold of James Damian Cherokee from Romania.
17:04The 30-year-old experienced guy.
17:08And remember the 10-8 round in the opener.
17:11And Quartermain back to those tactics again.
17:14Well, they were crazy there.
17:15You just see the feet even crossing over there.
17:17I mean, that was reckless stuff.
17:20You can't get away with that at this sort of level.
17:22You know, you're going to get made to pay the price.
17:25He's really got to start thinking about what he's doing.
17:27Showing desperate measures there sometimes.
17:30The right eye looks a mess.
17:32And Cherokee is jabbing right into it.
17:35The clever tactics from not a veteran, but a seasoned operator.
17:44Yeah, that cut definitely bleeding more now, isn't it?
17:47He's starting to cause Quartermain problems, I think.
17:51You see him dabbing away at that and wiping that.
17:53The referee is going to take a look at some point, I'm sure.
18:03Well, Marcus McDonald.
18:08Do you know what?
18:09Twice you've done it.
18:11I think another one will be a point off.
18:13He's fighting like he's fighting on nerves.
18:17You know when you're a bit reckless or a bit fast forward?
18:20Because you're nervous.
18:21He's fighting like that.
18:22Do you know what, Dave?
18:23I think there's an element of desperation coming out in what he's doing here.
18:27He knows that he's bashed up.
18:29He knows that eye is bad.
18:30And he's getting reckless.
18:32There's also a desperation for the success.
18:34He's undefeated.
18:35He's got a lot of pressure on him.
18:37All the fans here.
18:38The expectations.
18:40And it's gone wrong at the beginning.
18:42He's got to try and put it right.
18:50Feet crossing over again.
18:51He's coming in reckless with his head now.
18:53He's got to be careful.
18:54Doesn't get into another one of their seed there.
18:57He's literally throwing his head at everything.
18:59Wild stuff.
19:01Yeah, he's neglecting the jab that he did quite successfully in the fourth round.
19:06He was boxing at range and now he's just charging back in.
19:11Marcus having a word with both of them.
19:17Yeah, referee Marcus Macdonald just trying to clean things up a little bit in there.
19:22It is all starting to get a bit messy.
19:24Nice little right hand left hook there from Cherejik.
19:31Switching around there, Courtermain.
19:34Southpaw orthodox back again to Southpaw.
19:40Getting a bit tangly and messy in there in the fifth round.
19:59Just irritated, isn't he?
20:01Courtermain can't quite settle tonight like we've seen him before in the past.
20:06And there's a big welt now.
20:08The bruise has turned nasty on the bottom side of the right eye.
20:16It's better when he's at distance but Cherejik still navigating this well.
20:21Let's see how Spencer Fearon is seeing things with Alex.
20:30Here with Spencer Fearon.
20:32An unbelievable night of boxing and an all-action main event.
20:35Talk me through the fight so far.
20:38Danny's boxing the wrong fight.
20:40You see he's cut, he's been hurt.
20:43Danny needs to gauge his punching power.
20:47Putting little flows as light ones then go hard.
20:51He's putting everything in hard, everything in hard.
20:53And his opponent James now has adjusted to the punching power.
20:56So the punching power in the beginning, which he was fearful of,
20:59he's no longer being fearful of it.
21:01But I've got this fight even right now going into six rounds.
21:06I've got it to even.
21:08So, like, what Quartermain's got to do is adjust the power.
21:12And when he's up close, go through the middle with the uppercuts.
21:14That's the telling punch from the uppercut.
21:16Thank you, Spencer.
21:18Spencer's got it even.
21:20I don't think that's how you're seeing it.
21:21No, we've got the first three rounds going to Cherejik.
21:25And that first one was a 10-8 round as well, last round level.
21:29So I've got Cherejik quite a handy lead-up right now.
21:34But all to fight for in this second half, for sure.
21:36What we do agree, I think, with Spencer Fearon,
21:38is that he's fought the wrong fight here, Danny Quartermain.
21:41Yeah, definitely.
21:44And he needs to change it, change it quick.
21:48It's better with the jab.
21:50At distance, he looks a different fighter up close.
21:53Cherejik just looks like he can handle the pressure
21:56and he knows the tricks to get away.
21:58Better from the man from Leamington Spa
22:01into the second half of this.
22:03Is this his territory now?
22:05Yep, just want to see Quartermain working behind that jab,
22:08setting things up with the jab.
22:09There you go, jab not falling in.
22:10Hold your feet with that shot.
22:12Once you find the range with it, let your combinations go.
22:15He's a very, very fit kid.
22:17And you just know with the notice,
22:20and he's been preparing for a title fight for weeks and weeks,
22:24if he allows himself the distance
22:26and he doesn't smother his own work,
22:28he can grind out a winner.
22:30Yeah, great character as well, Danny Quartermain.
22:32That's better.
22:33Nice uppercut.
22:35But he didn't rush it there.
22:36He was up close, but he looked and he saw the shot and he took it
22:39rather than just winging shots away.
22:41Yep, just starting to settle down a little bit, isn't he?
22:44Just as the intensity is going out of his pressure,
22:47he's getting more effective, landing the shots better.
22:49But remember, he was preparing for someone completely different
22:53and James Cherejik comes in
22:55and really seemed happy to be here, relaxed all week,
22:59taking the opportunity.
23:04Yeah, I think he may have picked up a cut himself now
23:07over the right eye, Cherejik.
23:09Yep, right eye.
23:10So both of them damaged around the right eyes.
23:14Scrappiness now.
23:17Yeah, becoming a real physical war in there, isn't it?
23:23That's what I'm saying is the fitness might be the difference.
23:26If Quartermain allows himself the space to get his work off,
23:30he can't do the work to get inside and then be too close
23:33to have any purchase on his shot.
23:35Better body shots for Danny Quartermain.
23:37Left hook underneath, I think.
23:39Side to side.
23:41Rattling the ribs.
23:43Back comes Cherejik with one, but more from Quartermain.
23:46Finding the rib now.
23:49Both of them swapping body shots intently in there,
23:52in this sixth round.
23:54But Danny Quartermain...
23:57is throwing more.
23:59And suddenly...
24:01Much better work.
24:02Yep, he looks like...
24:05the aggressor who's on top.
24:07And Cherejik has to hold.
24:09Yep, that's very physical,
24:11what's going on in there right now.
24:13And that's very energy sapping.
24:15Cherejik looks tired, you know.
24:16Yeah, energy sapping.
24:17You know, we've got to remember,
24:19Quartermain is prepared for this one.
24:21Cherejik isn't.
24:22Back to the corner.
24:23There's a gulp of air there from Cherejik
24:25as he slumps down on his corner.
24:28This could be the turning point here
24:30for Danny Quartermain.
24:31The physicalities of this contest
24:33may have just turned things around.
24:35Yeah, and I feel as though, in that round,
24:37the success came because he wasn't
24:39throwing himself at the punchers.
24:41When he was up close, he wasn't still just...
24:44jumping in.
24:45He had the little bit of space to get the leverage
24:47through those short hooks underneath the elbows.
24:53I thought that was a good round for Quartermain.
24:55Yeah, it was.
24:56Yeah, very good round.
24:58He just used his physical strength there, didn't he,
25:00and his fitness to just grind things out.
25:02Worked the body very well there,
25:04very effective.
25:05Cherejik didn't seem comfortable
25:07when Quartermain was up close and tight with him.
25:10And perhaps that's what he needs to do here,
25:12Quartermain, now, is just grind it out.
25:15Perhaps that's the way he gets victory.
25:17We've seen it over and over.
25:18Sometimes, fighters have to, you know,
25:21they have a bad performance,
25:22but they grind out that win.
25:24As long as you get the win,
25:26chalk it up for experience, learn from it,
25:28and come back.
25:29Just get the win.
25:30Yeah, something has changed for Danny Quartermain.
25:33The persistency, work in the body,
25:35the corner, I've obviously said,
25:37Cherejik's tiring.
25:38Yeah.
25:39Four to go.
25:41Down the stretch,
25:42could favour Danny Quartermain,
25:44fully prepared,
25:45defending one belt,
25:46aiming for another,
25:48in this nine stone four super featherweight division.
25:51One thing that Quartermain's got in his corner,
25:55he's got a good coach in Edwin Cleary.
25:57He's been around the game for years and years.
25:59I used to train with him down at Brendan Ingles.
26:02He's been a coach for a long time,
26:04developing fighters from all the way through in the amateurs.
26:07He knows what he's doing.
26:09And if Quartermain's listening to him,
26:11there you can probably see the shift.
26:13And they've got a really good scene in Leamington Spa
26:15that Edwin and the guys have worked on there.
26:18It's a fantastic place.
26:21And Quartermain would love to keep this winning record going on
26:28and the crowds coming back
26:30because he sells big tickets.
26:33I think he's grinding it out now.
26:35He's definitely shifted.
26:38Yep.
26:39Turned the screw, hasn't he?
26:40Without a doubt, you can see that.
26:41And I think that Cherejik just seems to be,
26:44the intensity seems to have gone out of his work.
26:46And now Quartermain's starting to land the shots.
26:48Good one-two gone in there.
26:50And Cherejik looking a little uncomfortable in there now.
26:53And the momentum has changed massively.
26:55Yes, it has.
26:56And he's manhandling Cherejik a bit now.
26:59Look at that, just pushing him away,
27:01forcing him back to the ropes.
27:03You want to whip in some more body shots.
27:08And he's using his smarts a little bit here as well, Danny.
27:12Whereas James Cherejik looks tired and ragged.
27:17Not like he did in the first three
27:19when he was smooth and calm.
27:22And up on the guards.
27:23Yeah, absolutely.
27:25There's the massive turn in time.
27:27Keds come dangerously close together there as well.
27:30It's just when he's throwing himself at him,
27:32he allows himself to get that close
27:34where Cherejik can just hold on to him,
27:36shut down the attacks.
27:37Another big cut picked up there over the eye,
27:39right side of the eye from Cherejik.
27:41Blood pouring down the right side of his face there.
27:44From the head clash, definitely.
27:46Cherejik, body shots are being swapped again.
27:51And look at the ferocity in there in the seventh round.
27:56Head dangerously low again there from Quartermain.
28:00But you know what?
28:01He don't care now.
28:02He's throwing everything in there.
28:04Both digging downstairs.
28:07Body shots are the aim of the round, certainly.
28:15And Danny Quartermain has landed more.
28:19Yeah, it's another round for Quartermain.
28:26Yeah, not a lot in this contest now.
28:28Quartermain's pulled himself back into it.
28:31And more importantly, the momentum's with him as well.
28:34So, you know, we got three more rounds to go.
28:39If he keeps his trajectory going,
28:41then he's got himself a win on a bad night, really.
28:45Yeah, absolutely.
28:46Stylistically, he's having gel too well.
28:49Bad start from Quartermain,
28:50but he's pulled himself back together now.
28:52I'm sure both of you got wins when you didn't box great.
28:56Yeah, 100%, yeah.
28:58It just wasn't working.
29:00No, I always box great, sorry.
29:02I thought you were talking about me as a trainer.
29:04I didn't get many wins.
29:06When I won, I was good.
29:08You didn't hear us on commentary earlier.
29:10I think you were over the other side of the ring looking pretty.
29:12But we said that your fight with Patrick Mullins,
29:15oh, my word.
29:16Yeah, it's still one of my favorites.
29:17One of my favorites ever.
29:18Yeah, tough, tough, tough fight.
29:20And you won.
29:21Absolutely.
29:22But it was one of those that sort of molded me as a fighter,
29:25like not just physically, but mentally, psychologically,
29:28because I had to find out a lot about myself in that contest.
29:32And I think that's what,
29:33that's the difference between challengers and champions.
29:35Champions are able to do that, bite down and, you know,
29:39turn it around.
29:40All right, stop bragging.
29:42Well, Niall Berry.
29:43I wasn't talking about myself.
29:45Niall Berry will have to come back from the defeat earlier on tonight.
29:49Will Danny Quartermain keep the flag flying here?
29:54Three rounds to go.
29:55How tight is it on the judges' cars?
29:5910-8 round in the opener for James Cheruji,
30:03who boxed well at the beginning.
30:05Danny Quartermain definitely, last few rounds,
30:08has got right back into it.
30:10Boxing better, body shots.
30:14Anything next, later on?
30:16It's been a great night.
30:17It certainly has.
30:18That was a lovely, yep, lovely work there, Dave,
30:21from Quartermain, who's just got up on his toes
30:24and for the first time in the contest, maybe,
30:26just started thinking before he was throwing his shots.
30:29There's a thought process around what he's doing now.
30:31He's slipped into a rhythm and that was important.
30:35Yeah, boxing much better now.
30:37Using his brain, using his feet.
30:40Where was all this a few rounds ago?
30:42I was just thinking the same thing.
30:45I think maybe when he looks back on this fight,
30:48he might look at when he's got into round eight,
30:50halfway through round eight, and he might think,
30:52why didn't I do that from round one?
30:54He's almost starting again, isn't he?
30:56That looks a mess, that eye of Chirigi as well now.
31:00A lot of blood in there.
31:01This is nice from Quartermain.
31:02Beautiful boxing from Danny Quartermain.
31:07I bet Edwin Cleary is just thinking in the corner,
31:10what on earth?
31:11Let's just get him through it.
31:13Absolutely, it's going to be interesting to see
31:15what he's got to say about that and say,
31:17what was the switching point?
31:18Where did the switch come from?
31:19In round eight, when did you start to think,
31:21I know what, I can make this easy for myself.
31:23Just hold my ground, move around the perimeter of the ring,
31:26pop the jab out, set it up.
31:28When the jab lands, let the right hand go.
31:30It's all quite simple.
31:35He's showing class now, Danny Quartermain,
31:37and it's really good to see.
31:39That's what he does.
31:40He can box and then he can be aggressive,
31:42but it's controlled aggression.
31:44And for the first half of this fight,
31:46that wasn't the case.
31:51But this is good.
31:54You know what, it's simple.
32:00Best round of boxing from Danny Quartermain,
32:02on the outside, popping the jab out.
32:06Technically looking good.
32:11Yep, he's got into a rhythm, hasn't he?
32:13And that's when he's at his best.
32:15You know, we know that he's always had that boxing ability,
32:19but he didn't show it tonight.
32:20It's been a bad night at the office for him in many ways,
32:22but he's able to turn it around,
32:24and that's a champion's mindset
32:26and a championship mentality to be able to do that.
32:29Yeah, he's definitely got that, Danny Quartermain.
32:32And real problems with that eye for James Cherokee.
32:36It might hold out,
32:38but the tide has turned dramatically here.
32:41And Danny Quartermain racking up the rounds now.
32:47For me, just starting to take the lead now.
32:51He's got a round or two up with a couple to go, Quartermain,
32:55but he looks very, very comfortable.
32:57He looked like he was in the rhythm,
32:59and James Cherokee really looked like
33:02he was struggling in that round.
33:06Some of the action, lovely work up on his toes there.
33:09Second win from Quartermain
33:13has showed us a little bit of what he can do.
33:16Coventry Skydome
33:19being treated to some really cool action tonight.
33:24Some knockouts, some 50-50s,
33:28some real intensity,
33:31some scrappy stuff.
33:33It's fantastic.
33:34I've had everything.
33:35It's been a great show.
33:36Really good night.
33:37Two rounds to go.
33:38IBF, WBO, European Super Featherweight titles
33:43that Danny Quartermain could go home with.
33:47James Cherokee can't,
33:49because he was overweight at the weigh-in,
33:51but he could still win the fight.
33:54Key few minutes left,
33:56but Quartermain has slipped into a rhythm
33:59behind that jab,
34:00and, well, he's woken up, hasn't he?
34:03Yep.
34:04Things not looking great for Cherokee now,
34:06and you just sense at this stage of the game,
34:09Quartermain with the fitness,
34:11and the better boxing brain, if you like,
34:14just seems to have got into a rhythm now,
34:16and there's no sense of urgency about Cherokee's work either.
34:22He's almost settled, hasn't he, Cherokee?
34:24I wonder if the pace has caught up with him a little bit.
34:28He's finding Quartermain too sharp for him while he's boxing.
34:33His boxing ability is too sharp for him.
34:36He can't get near him.
34:38What will he think about this, guys,
34:40looking back on Monday morning?
34:42I hope he looks at it and understands
34:44that he's got to be calm and cool,
34:46no matter how big of an occasion.
34:48Because, listen, let's not kid ourselves.
34:50That'll have played a lot.
34:51There's a lot of pressure on these kids, right?
34:53I'll say it again.
34:54It's the first show on Desire.
34:56It's the first show on Desire.
34:58It's the first show on Desire.
35:00It's the first show on Desire.
35:02It's the first show on Desire.
35:04It's the first show on Desire.
35:06It's the first show on Desire.
35:07It's the first show on a big platform.
35:09So there's a lot of pressure.
35:10So he's had to come out here and perform.
35:12And he's perhaps tried too hard to impress,
35:14and to impress the TV, impress the fans.
35:17Which may be a pattern of the night, actually.
35:19Yeah, I find that that seems to have been a pattern
35:21throughout the night, definitely.
35:22But he needs to be proud of himself
35:24for the fact that he can get off to a bad start,
35:27and he can go through a rough, rough first half of a fight,
35:30turn it around.
35:32That takes a lot and a mentality and a lot of fire.
35:34So for me, I would much rather one of my fighters
35:37start bad, finish great, rather than starting off great
35:41and then failing and going down the ladder towards the end.
35:44Do you know what I mean?
35:45Totally agree.
35:46And I think on the flip side of all of that,
35:47I think that they've learned to deal with that pressure.
35:50They've got that in the bag.
35:51And this is, like I say, the development stage,
35:53the apprenticeship stage.
35:54And when you go on to bigger, better things,
35:56you have to go through this.
35:57And this is the learning curve.
35:59We've got to remember, guys, he's only having his 12th fight.
36:02And he's in against somebody who's been in
36:03with some really top-class fighters.
36:05So...
36:06Yeah, this is really much better boxing from Danny Quartermaine.
36:10He looks good on his feet,
36:13fresh, despite the damage around the eyes.
36:16When he looks at himself in the mirror in the morning,
36:18he'll think, why didn't I start boxing earlier?
36:20Yeah, he's almost started halfway through the fight.
36:23Around round seven, I think it was, he started boxing like this.
36:28That eye's really bad now.
36:30Quartermaine as well.
36:31That's swollen up, nearly shut now.
36:34But a good dominant round there from Danny Quartermaine.
36:37I think that using that movement around the perimeter of the ring,
36:42working behind the jab,
36:43as soon as he's finding the range of that,
36:45putting those combinations together.
36:47And he just seems to be now stealing the soul, in many ways,
36:51of James Cheruzzi,
36:52who looks like he'll just be happy to see that final belt.
36:56You can see the war wounds on both of these guys.
36:59It's been a very physical battle,
37:01but Quarantaine now, for me,
37:03seems to have got a foothold on it.
37:05Yeah, grueling, tough tussle between these two.
37:09Another good match on this,
37:13Into The Fire,
37:16DAZN GBM
37:19debut partnership show.
37:22I hope everyone's enjoyed it at home.
37:24Final round coming up.
37:27Danny Quartermaine, James Cheruzzi.
37:30They'll touch gloves.
37:32It's been tough, it's been hard.
37:34Quartermaine's been on the floor in the first round.
37:37Cheruzzi was boxing really well, calm and cool.
37:41Quartermaine rushing in, charging in like a bull.
37:44But he's got his boxing together when it's been most needed
37:48and must be in a decent lead now.
37:51Yep, you'd think so.
37:52You'd think he's running away with it now.
37:54Couple of rounds up at least here for Quartermaine
37:57after a bad, bad start.
37:59He's pulled himself together.
38:01It's been a great learning curve for him, that's for sure.
38:04Cheruzzi, very experienced fighter
38:06who still seems to have ambition here in this 10th round.
38:10He's still pushing forward.
38:16You've got to ask Edwin Cleary's thoughts on this fight.
38:20Yeah.
38:21The two sides of...
38:22Absolutely.
38:23I'd love to know his answer.
38:25Because for me, I'd be...
38:27I was going to say, tell me, all right.
38:29I don't know.
38:30But...
38:31I think if we asked him to sum it up in one word,
38:34it'd be relief.
38:35Yeah.
38:36I think that's where he would be with it, you know.
38:38Fighters, trainers, they're in there with the fighter, aren't they?
38:41I mean, Dave, you know better than anyone.
38:43You know, you're in there taking every punch,
38:45slipping every punch.
38:47So, you know, frustrating.
38:49You were in there with Dean Pithy in this very arena
38:52a few times, weren't you?
38:53I certainly was, yeah.
38:55I covered the very first fight that ever happened in this arena.
38:58Dean Pithy boxed on the bill.
39:00And the late, great Richard Everett boxed on here as well.
39:03What a fantastic fighter he was back in the day.
39:06So exciting.
39:07Neil Simpson.
39:08Many good fighters come out of this region.
39:10And Danny Quartermain is the latest from Leamington Spa
39:15in Warwickshire.
39:16And he's got just over a minute to go.
39:18We don't know how the three judges have it.
39:21Unofficially, Spencer's got Danny up a couple of rounds.
39:24Dave, what do you think?
39:25Yeah, I think Quartermain's turned it around.
39:29Yeah, I think with this round in the bank as well,
39:31I think he's turned it around.
39:32He's probably run away with this.
39:34With maybe a three-round advantage,
39:37he started very badly for me.
39:39But his second half of this contest,
39:41he slipped into a rhythm.
39:43And it's been a great learning curve, Dave.
39:45It really has.
39:46And champion's mentality as well.
39:49When an opponent changes,
39:51you've got all the pressure in the main event.
39:53It's all gone a bit pear-shaped in the first few rounds
39:56to get back to your boxing,
39:58listen to the corner,
39:59and start to pick off the rounds.
40:02That's impressive.
40:12Clock ticking down.
40:13This ten-rounder about to come to a close.
40:17Danny Quartermain,
40:18who's already got the IBF European Super Featherweight title.
40:21Is he going to add the vacant WBO belt?
40:24We at Ringside think he's done enough.
40:26It will go to the three judges.
40:29A hard, tough affair.
40:32A grueling one.
40:33Yeah.
40:34A very physical contest, that was.
40:37He will have learned so much from that.
40:39Danny Quartermain,
40:41his trainer, Edwin Clary,
40:43as Dave Coldwell pointed out,
40:46I'm glad he's got no hair,
40:47because he wouldn't have no hair after that contest.
40:50That was very, very, very physical
40:54and emotional in many ways,
40:56not just for the fighter,
40:57but for the trainer as well.
40:58So, yeah, they'll be glad that one's over
41:01and it's behind them.
41:04Marcus McDonald just taking a glug of water.
41:07I think he's tired as well.
41:08Yeah.
41:09It was one of those, wasn't it,
41:10a physical battle.
41:11Yeah, it was.
41:12The referee was involved very much
41:14and it wasn't pretty,
41:17but it was a really good battle.
41:24Tough, hard, physical encounter.
41:29The one before was more exciting now, Barry, wasn't it?
41:32But different styles, different fights.
