00:30Assalam Alekum and Good Morning Everyone from Istanbul, Turkey.
00:36I have been stuck in Istanbul for the last 10 days because my bike didn't get fixed.
00:40Unfortunately, it is still not fixed.
00:42But I have finally decided to leave Istanbul.
00:45The city I am going to is called Bursa.
00:48It was the first official capital of the Ottoman Empire.
00:51Because the Ottoman Empire started from a small village called Sugut.
00:56Whenever I open my Instagram, I get a lot of DMs from you guys.
01:03So if you are watching this vlog, this is for you.
01:06I am taking a ferry from here to go to Bursa.
01:08I was with my hotel near the Galata Tower.
01:11I will walk from there and cross the bridge.
01:14The ferry terminal is right in front of me.
01:16It will take me 2 hours to catch the ferry.
01:19I think I will have to take a bus after that. It will also take 30 minutes.
01:26Bursa
01:32One ticket to Bursa please.
01:34How many persons?
01:36Sorry?
01:37One person?
01:38One person.
01:39Passport or ID please.
01:45I am in the ferry right now.
01:47It takes 2 hours from Sultanahmet to Bursa.
01:52I think I paid 65 Liras for the ferry.
01:55I will have to take a bus from where the ferry will drop me.
01:58I think it will take 30-35 minutes.
02:00I am very hungry right now.
02:02It's early in the morning and I have to eat something.
02:05Let's see if I can get something to eat.
02:25Bursa
02:35Finally I have reached Bursa.
02:37It took me 2.5 hours by ferry and bus to reach here.
02:41I am in a cafe right now.
02:43I have ordered tea for myself.
02:45It's very hot today and I was very tired.
02:49I even fell asleep in the bus.
02:51But since I haven't booked a hotel for the night,
02:54I am gonna book a hotel here first.
02:56I will keep my luggage there.
02:58And then I will explore the sights of the city.
03:21Bursa
03:29We start our Bursa vlog from Sultan Osman Ghazi.
03:32He is the son of Ertugrul Ghazi.
03:34It is believed that he founded the Ottoman dynasty.
03:39His name is Osman in Arabic.
03:42In Turkish, it is called Othman.
03:44That's where the word Ottoman came from.
03:46When he separated from the Seljuk Turks,
03:49he decided that he will not fight with the other Turkish leaders.
03:53He will not go to their areas.
03:55Instead, he will fight with the Byzantine and Crusaders.
03:59And he will start his empire from there.
04:03He has his tomb in Bursa.
04:06We are going there right now.
04:08It's right in front of me.
04:10Unfortunately, it's closed due to Covid.
04:13But there is a window here where I can take some photos and videos.
04:20Bursa
04:33The place where Sultan Osman Ghazi's tomb is located,
04:36there used to be a silver chapel in Byzantine times.
04:40When there was light on it, you could see it from a distance.
04:44It gave you the impression that it was a very rich and powerful city.
04:50It was Sultan Osman Ghazi's wish that when he conquered this city,
04:54he would be buried here after his death.
04:58His son, Arhan Ghazi's tomb is right next to it.
05:02Let's go there now.
05:05Bursa
05:13Bursa was Arhan Ghazi's first major conquest.
05:16As soon as he captured the city, he moved his capital from Sugut.
05:20Because Sugut was a small city.
05:22So Bursa is considered to be the first major capital of the Ottoman Empire.
05:28As the Ottomans started capturing other European countries,
05:33they moved their capital from here to Edirne.
05:36Edirne is a city right on the border of Greece and Bulgaria.
05:41I have made a vlog about it on my channel.
05:43I think that would be my first vlog in Turkey.
05:45If you haven't seen it yet, you can go and watch it.
05:48Unfortunately, Arhan Ghazi's tomb is closed from inside.
05:52And the windows are not recording anything.
05:55If I can't do it, I don't have any other option.
05:59The whole area where Arhan Ghazi and Othman Ghazi's tombs are located,
06:03is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
06:20I just ordered something to eat as I was starving.
06:24This place is really beautiful.
06:26So I decided to eat here.
06:28Fahad joined me a while ago.
06:31He had gone to...
06:33Bes... where was it?
06:35Iskesher.
06:37He came back from Iskesher.
06:39So he is exploring Bursa now.
06:41And we have Evi with us.
06:43He is from Finland and Fahad's friend.
06:45He is studying here.
06:57Bursa
07:01The view of the city from here is amazing.
07:03This is a hilltop.
07:05So there is Old City on one side and New City on the other.
07:07Bursa is actually a huge city.
07:09I thought it was small.
07:11But this is the fourth biggest city after Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
07:15Our plan now is to go to Old City.
07:17What's there to see in New City?
07:19There are huge buildings.
07:21So we are going to explore a couple of beautiful places in Old City.
07:27And I'll show them to you as well.
07:51There is a gate on the way to Osman Ghazi's tomb.
07:54It's called Sultanet Kapesi or Sultan Gate.
07:58It was used by the Ottomans to enter and exit the city.
08:02Mostly traders and governors used to use this gate.
08:06Because all the markets used to be inside.
08:08Spice market, fish market and silk market.
08:11Bursa's silk was very famous here.
08:14It was their main trade.
08:16There is a lot of heavy industry in the city right now.
08:18Because a lot of industry has shifted here from Istanbul.
08:20So we are heading towards the city center, Old Town.
08:23The Grand Mosque of Bursa, also known as Ulu Camii, is a 1600 year old mosque.
08:48It was built in 1399 by Sultan Bayezid I.
08:53He promised that if he won the war, he would build 20 mosques in Bursa.
09:00But after the war, he was advised to build one mosque instead of 20 mosques.
09:06So he built this mosque and it has 20 domes.
09:09All the mosques you will find in Turkey, are different to me.
09:15Because most of the mosques have one or two domes.
09:18This mosque has 20 domes.
09:20The architect of this mosque was Ali Nekar.
09:22Unfortunately, it caught fire twice after the earthquake.
09:26But the renovation was done in the exact same style as Ali Nekar's.
09:46One of the most important features of this mosque is its center dome.
09:52It is made of glass.
09:54Most of the other mosques have their main domes covered.
09:58But here, the natural light of the sun illuminates the entire mosque.
10:02It looks really beautiful.
10:04There is a fountain just below the dome.
10:07You can hear the sound of the water.
10:09It's a very peaceful place.
10:11There is a fountain just below the dome.
10:13You can hear the sound of the water.
10:15It's a very peaceful place.
10:17The walls of the mosque are in Ottoman style.
10:20The calligraphy is almost 300 art pieces.
10:23It was done during the renovation.
10:25It's really beautiful.
10:27I have never seen such calligraphy before.
10:29The members inside the mosque are made of Seljuk Turk architecture.
10:36It's made of walnut.
10:38I am not sure if it's from the same era.
10:41The mosque was on fire and the renovation was done a couple of times.
10:45So it's possible that it was renovated in the same style.
11:09The oldest market in Bursa is called Kozahan.
11:13It was built by the Ottomans for the silk trade.
11:16Because the silk here was very popular.
11:18It's a square type.
11:20There are shops all around.
11:22This is the ground floor.
11:24It's a beautiful place to sit and eat.
11:27There are shops all around.
11:29But right in the center of this square, there is a beautiful mosque.
11:34It's still functional.
11:36I am standing right now.
11:38It's a little higher than the ground floor.
11:41It's still functional. People are still praying here.
11:54Fahad and Ivy are deciding what to eat.
11:57Let's go and ask them.
12:07I made a mistake.
12:09I couldn't understand what it was in Turkish.
12:11So I called it pita bread.
12:13But when I got the pita bread, I thought it had chicken in it.
12:15But it wasn't chicken.
12:17It had tuna in it.
12:18I was already tired of eating tuna.
12:20I didn't want to eat tuna in Turkey.
12:22But now that we are here, let's finish it.
12:24This will be our pre-dinner.
12:26We will have dinner at a nice place.
12:28Actually, Fahad and Ivy's food is better than mine.
12:37I actually like that. It's not that bad.
12:39So it's time to leave.
12:41And say goodbye to Fahad and Ivy.
12:44They are both having their dinner.
12:47So thank you so much guys.
12:49Until next time, we will see each other.
12:51Until next time, until Istanbul again.
12:53See you.
12:57I am at the terrace of my hotel.
12:59The view from here is amazing.
13:01Especially the view of the mosque and the old city.
13:03It's a little hidden behind the mosque.
13:05But you can sit here and enjoy the sunset.
13:09Let me tell you the name of this hotel.
13:11Because a lot of people say that I haven't told you.
13:13The name of the hotel is Waha Hotel.
13:15I paid 120 Liras for this hotel.
13:17Which is around 15 to 20 Euros.
13:1915 Euros I think.
13:21I will enjoy the sunset from here.
13:34I am leaving for dinner now.
13:36The restaurant I wanted to go to,
13:38was recommended to me by the BMW guy.
13:42Sohail Firaat, who is taking care of my BMW G310GS,
13:47so that it can be repaired as soon as possible.
13:49He messaged me and told me that
13:51he has a BMW G310GS.
13:53Sohail Firaat, who is taking care of my BMW G310GS,
13:55told me that he has a BMW G310GS.
13:57Sohail Firaat, who is taking care of my BMW G310GS,
13:59told me that he has a BMW G310GS.
14:01Sohail Firaat, who is taking care of my BMW G310GS,
14:03told me that there is a restaurant nearby
14:05which serves great Lebanese and Ottoman food.
14:09But it's closed at 9 pm.
14:11I took a 14 minute taxi to get here.
14:15But it's closed at 9 pm.
14:17Which is surprising.
14:19Restaurants don't close that early.
14:21I am in the center now.
14:23Let's try some other restaurants.
14:25I am a little hungry.
14:27There are a lot of options in the center.
14:31Let's go.
14:49The food here was quite good.
14:51And what I liked the most,
14:53was the grape juice.
14:55I have some with me.
14:57I am drinking it.
14:59Fahad told me last time,
15:01that in Turkey,
15:03after every meal,
15:05the restaurant offers tea for free.
15:07So I am gonna drink it for free.
15:09I just got my tea.
15:11Sugar? I don't need sugar.
15:13It's fine. Thank you.
15:15Thank you very much.
15:17People use a lot of sugar here.
15:19But I don't need it.
15:21We are already so sweet.
15:23So hopefully you guys would have enjoyed
15:25my Bursa vlog today.
15:27This is for those who requested me.
15:29Thank you so much for watching.
