00:00Singaporean motorists who have yet to register for the Vehicle Entry Permit, VEP, are advised
00:08not to delay further as the Malaysian government will enforce penalties gradually.
00:14Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Singapore vehicle owners should still apply for the
00:18permit, although they are currently allowed to enter and exit Johor following the VEP
00:24enforcement date on October 1.
00:26He said of the 678 cars checked randomly at the BSI and Complex Sultan Abu Bakar near
00:34the Second Link on Tuesday and Wednesday, only 50 drivers were found to have not applied
00:40for the permit.
00:41He added that they would be served notices as a reminder for them to apply for the VEP
00:47as soon as possible to avoid action in the future.
00:51When asked by Singapore media about the information required for the application and data security,
00:56Loke assured applicants that Malaysia has the Personal Data Protection Act.
01:01We have laws as well, we have Personal Data Protection Act, PDPA, and the information
01:07that we ask by the Malaysian authorities are the same information asked by the Singapore
01:11authorities.
01:12So, it has to be fair to us.
01:15If Malaysian cars going into Singapore, you ask all sorts of questions.
01:18I mean, when Singaporean cars coming to Malaysia, we ask the same questions, I think you have
01:23to accept it.
01:24Right.
01:25So, this is only fair, I mean, in terms of authorities and in terms of our legal condition.
01:32Loke reiterated that Singaporeans were not being targeted for the VEP exercise as the
01:38government would also implement it at the Malaysia-Thai border in the Northern States soon.
