Clean sheets give us a platform to win football matches

Scott Parker feels that his side are creating a good platform to win football matches when they're so solid at the back.

00:00That back four the weekend, or what has been the back four for the last three or

00:05four games, is a young, young back four. There's a right-back playing it who's a

00:10left footer, left-sided centre-half we put in at the Football Club, so

00:15ideally you see him as a left-sided centre-half. If not, you see him as a

00:19left-back. Bash is playing at right-back and done incredible. Young CJ, who, you

00:26know, has not had a lot of football in that sense, has come in and has been

00:30rock-solid as well. Lucas Perez coming in from a new environment, new

00:35culture, and like you said, Traff last year as well, where it was tough

00:39for him at certain moments. So I think as a back unit, including the keeper, of

00:43course there's big credit to all of them because this is new and some of them are

00:48learning on their feet. But I think as a group and as a team, the reason why we've

00:53managed to be secure is in terms of what we've done as a team, really. So, solid,

00:59good organisation and a real understanding of the foundations of

01:02what's going to get us results, really, and that gives us a platform to win

01:05football matches and that's given us a platform to win football matches,

01:08certainly, and there's been many a game, one being the other night. When the game

01:12turns a little bit and you're a goal in front, the game starts becoming a

01:15bit edgy. Like every Championship game, they take more risk. You need to dog

01:19something out there and protect your lead. We did that immensely well and

01:23I'm very pleased in that. We all want to score goals. We all want to be this free

01:28flowing. Every game, every team, you go out, you want to be solid and you want to

01:32go and score. And on Tuesday night, there was opportunity there at

01:36half-time. Maybe we should be two or three up and the game should be out of

01:39sight. That isn't the case. We're not sitting here or the group are not

01:43sitting here and we're saying, yeah, this is the way we are. We understand what we

01:48want to be. But like I said, you're up against 11 other men who are dogged in

01:53certain moments and for sure, there's elements that we can improve on

01:57and get better. But first and foremost, it does come from a solid

02:00foundation and that foundation is a zero in our end. With the quality we

02:06have in this team, we'll probe out and eke out chances that hopefully we can be

02:10clinical and win games, really.
