00:00I kept a lot of Cassie's jeans.
00:03I take her lingerie, mainly just the jeans.
00:06Hi, Glamour. I'm Sydney Sweeney,
00:08and today I'm gonna be breaking down
00:09some of my favorite TV and movie looks.
00:12Okay, so, The Handmaid's Tale, 2018.
00:16I played Eden,
00:17our beautiful costume designer and Crabtree.
00:20She's so beyond talented.
00:22It was really cool for my first fitting.
00:24She just kind of had the fabric
00:27and would drape it all around me
00:29and take pictures of it being draped in different ways.
00:32She then would sketch up different ideas
00:34and was, like, dreaming of this character together.
00:36That was my first time really experiencing,
00:39like, fashion in television.
00:41Anne really wants to make sure that you can move
00:43and be free in anything
00:45that you're wearing for the characters.
00:47And then a technical part of the costume
00:50that I thought was brilliant.
00:51A lot of times when we have to get mic'd
00:54and wear, like, our mic packs,
00:55we're, like, shoving it and trying to hide it
00:57in, like, under our bra strap
00:59or under your armpit or in between your legs.
01:01And it's a very uncomfortable, unnatural layer to add to you.
01:05For these costumes,
01:07she always had the mic, like, sewn into a seam
01:11and you would have no idea where it was.
01:13There was no, like, mic-ing process.
01:15And then there'd be a pouch for the mic pack
01:17so they could just change the battery easily.
01:19But the wire was always, like,
01:20sewn into a beautiful hidden place within the costume.
01:24So you never felt like you had to put this mic on.
01:26You were just putting your character's clothing on.
01:28So Eden's white wedding costume for the child bride,
01:34we wanted to be as pure and covered up as possible.
01:39I actually wore binding underneath all of my costumes.
01:44And this was the hardest one to get the binding to work with
01:47because you're wearing white.
01:48So everything is going to be a little see-through.
01:50And so they custom-made this corset
01:52that flattened my chest as much as possible.
01:56But, yeah, it was an amazing process.
02:00I loved it.
02:00It was my first TV show that I really felt like
02:03I was finally doing the stuff that I dreamt of.
02:06Hawaiian Lotus 2021.
02:08This was such a unique and exciting moment in my life.
02:13The costume designer and I,
02:15we had very limited options
02:16because we were quarantined in the Four Seasons and Hawaii.
02:20And so we had to get very creative with our options
02:23and what we were able to get.
02:25With Olivia, she is born into an upper-middle-class family
02:29with a very successful working mother.
02:30But she is pushing against everything that her mom is.
02:34So she's rebelling in her own way
02:37where her mom is very dressed and put together
02:39in big hats and elegant,
02:41even though she's born into this
02:42and will most likely become that.
02:45She's fighting so hard against it.
02:48So we wanted to find outfits
02:49where she probably, with her best friend,
02:51went thrift shopping
02:52and found the most random pieces to throw together
02:56just to upset her mom.
02:57And Alex did a really great job
02:59at finding these fun pieces.
03:02I mean, there's a shirt,
03:03I think it's like either jam out with your clams out
03:05or something like that.
03:06And it was just funny.
03:08And we were like, should we?
03:09I'm like, yeah, she would 1000% wear this
03:10to piss off her mom.
03:11I naturally wear glasses.
03:14And I wanted to incorporate that into Olivia's life.
03:19My eyes were bothering me really bad.
03:20So I put glasses on and we ended up liking it.
03:24So we just kind of went for it.
03:26You can tell they're my personal ones
03:27because there's a certain tint
03:29that glasses are supposed to have for on set
03:31so they don't reflect the lights and cameras
03:34and mine doesn't.
03:35So you can kind of see the reflection.
03:37And then for my hair,
03:39because I was coming right off of Euphoria,
03:42I was like, I want to somehow make my hair
03:45a little different.
03:46So I started braiding my hair every night
03:49and I'd wake up and it would be crinkled.
03:52And so we just went with it
03:54and I was growing my hair out trying to get the blonde
03:56and make it healthier.
03:57So this is my mid grow out phase during White Lotus.
04:02Anyone but you from 2023.
04:04Her wardrobe, I really wanted to make it
04:08as relatable as possible.
04:10I think that she's in this middle stage in her life
04:13where she's not in college and partying
04:18and she's also not in her adult life yet.
04:21She's trying to find this middle ground of who she is
04:24and discover who she wants to become.
04:26She has learned from past relationships and past choices.
04:29So it's made her a little harder
04:31and not as open to love and adventure
04:34as she probably should be.
04:37Amelia Gubler was really incredible to work with.
04:41I had mood boards upon mood boards and Pinterest boards
04:45and we would send each other pictures back and forth
04:47and I had very specific ideas
04:49of what I wanted for different scenes.
04:52And so for instance, like the yacht party scene
04:55and the blue silk dress,
04:57I sent her silhouettes that I wanted,
05:00fabrics that I wanted.
05:02And then we would just kind of like how Ann did
05:04for Handmaid's Tale, we'd pin the fabric
05:07and I was like, okay, we need the pieces
05:08to come off the shoulder.
05:10So that was a custom piece that we made together.
05:13And then the iconic wedding,
05:16standing at the Sydney Opera House.
05:18I saw that on Vogue and I took a screenshot
05:22and I sent it to both my stylist and Amelia
05:25and was like, how can we get this off the runway?
05:28So they were kind enough
05:30and let us borrow it for the filming.
05:32It was a lot of fun.
05:33Euphoria 2019 to 2022.
05:36Heidi Bevins, who's our costume designer,
05:38she had a lot of fun because she constantly
05:41is changing her looks for season one.
05:44She and I really wanted to have a fluid story for her.
05:48So I really wanted it to be like pale pinks
05:50and soft blues.
05:51Those are some of my favorite colors
05:52and I wanted to put them into Cassie's story.
05:56And then season two was really fun
05:57because all of a sudden Cassie is trying
05:59to become these other girls that Nate is dreaming of.
06:03And so she is taking looks from like Hunter's character
06:08and Alexis' character and incorporating them
06:11into her own style.
06:13Her Oklahoma look I think will forever follow me
06:16everywhere I go.
06:18It was really fun being able to play
06:19with different patterns and just crazy looks
06:23to dive into whenever Donnie and I
06:25are creating Cassie's makeup looks
06:28because we're just dreaming of anything and everything.
06:32And like she has our faces all drawn out
06:34and then she'll present different makeup ideas
06:37on these like binders of us.
06:40And we'll go through and be like,
06:41ooh, we love like the jewel placement here
06:44but I love like the sparkles and the shadows
06:45from this picture.
06:46And so we'll kind of like mix and match
06:48and put it all together.
06:49And it's like playing dress up.
06:50I kept a lot of Cassie's jeans
06:53because they were all like tailored to fit me perfectly.
06:57And a lot of times jeans are too long on me
07:00because I'm short.
07:01So all of them are like perfectly hemmed
07:04to my proportions.
07:06So I steal a lot of the jeans.
07:08I take her lingerie.
07:11Mainly just the jeans.
07:13Madame Moi, 2023.
07:15I play Julia.
07:17She's much younger than where you meet her in the comics.
07:21So we had to make everything feel more youthful.
07:25You see her in the beginning
07:26and then she grows and she gains all this strength
07:28and she starts to become the woman
07:29that you're going to see in the comic books later on.
07:32The one thing that's so fun
07:33with the, we call them our super suits.
07:36They are so tight.
07:38What's funny is when we were training,
07:39we're training like in workout clothes
07:41and then all of a sudden you put these suits on
07:43and you can't bend your arms
07:44and you can't bend your legs.
07:45And it's like, wait, we have to make this
07:47where you can actually move.
07:50When we first put it on
07:51and I was supposed to do this hanging upside down piece.
07:54When I was training, my legs were like perfectly flat
07:57and my feet were perfectly like all the way down to my butt.
08:01And then when I went up there for the first day
08:03of testing the costume on the harness in that spot,
08:08I couldn't even bend my legs.
08:09I was like, wait, this is the problem.
08:10This is not how Julie is supposed to pose.
08:14I had to figure it out.
08:15You usually make sure you go to the bathroom beforehand
08:18and then drink very little throughout the day
08:21so you don't have to go again.
08:22But I always felt really good in it.
08:24I loved it.
08:25I wanted to wear it more.
08:25Immaculate, 2024.
08:28This is a very special project to me
08:30because I initially auditioned
08:33for a version of this film when I was 16
08:35and they never ended up making it.
08:37And so I chased it ever since.
08:39And then last year,
08:40put the whole project together and filmed it.
08:43So this was a very, very hands-on process for me.
08:50Our costume designer,
08:51she's based out of Italy, Francesca.
08:54She's amazing.
08:55I drew a lot of inspiration from Handmaid's Tale
08:57in my experience with Anne.
08:59I had every single layer handmade.
09:01So even underneath her black and white dress,
09:06she has under layers that also a sister would wear.
09:10I'm definitely very happy
09:12with how her main sister outfit came out.
09:18We were so specific
09:20on how long the shoulder was on the black strip
09:25and where the seam would hit on my shoulder
09:28and where you didn't know if it was a period piece
09:31or if it was present day.
09:33And it kind of just was stuck in this unknown.
09:37It was a very fun and hands-on and creative process for me.
09:43I think I've always kind of been a little vocal
09:47on what I like for my characters.
09:50I think it's because I do put a lot of thought
09:53and prep into building who my characters are.
09:56I build these books for my characters
09:57that are like an interactive timeline journal
10:01for each character where I start from the day
10:03they're born to the first page of the script.
10:06And it's like all the relationships
10:08and moments in their life
10:10and people that they might've met
10:11or the schools they go to.
10:13And it's like this diary almost
10:16with also like a mood board and visuals.
10:19You basically build a person.
10:21I also love seeing what like the costume designer
10:25will bring to the table
10:25because I might be surprised and completely like,
10:28oh, whoa, this is not what I was thinking,
10:30but this is really cool.
10:32And let's like make a really cool twist on this.
10:34Honestly, now that I'm talking about all of them,
10:36I feel like I've been really, really fortunate.
10:38They kind of let me bring my own inspiration.
10:41I lived in a very small town.
10:43Fashion was not a thing.
10:45We were just in sneakers and overalls
10:47and Birkenstocks and that's it.
10:50Thank you, Glamour.
10:50It's been so fun revisiting
10:52some of my favorite looks with you.
