00:00I am Sir Keser, Keserjan Sibunga.
00:03I am a science teacher from Bitogo National High School,
00:08a barangay national high school located in the municipality of San Joaquin in Iloilo.
00:14I am a GBF scholar and I have been teaching for 6 years.
00:20We, teachers, have the platform.
00:30We are given the platform to amplify our professional advocacies,
00:35to bring awareness to our content.
00:37For example, as for me, I used to integrate the discussion on social issues in my research class.
00:43I teach research to grade 12 students.
00:50I use my class to talk about issues in our community, in the government.
00:57I teach in a barangay school because the very problem that I see,
01:02not only on their reading comprehension, not only on their learning of basic mathematics, science literacy,
01:09sa po talaga sa pinaka problema is that they lack the awareness
01:14and they lack the concern of what really is happening in the country
01:19or the issues that are actually happening within our community.
01:23We also have the power to instill values and positively influence our students.
01:28Minsan natatawa po ako no, my class, one of my students,
01:32sabi niya, parang hindi niya nakikita how important education is.
01:46However, with our given platform, aming mga guru, we have the power to instill them
01:52na may mas better na opportunity or mas may magandang kinabukasan that awaits you.
02:02I was attracted to science or sa physics specifically
02:10That was Mr. Ernie Hensaya.
02:13Magaling po siya magburo, very organized,
02:15at lahat po kami within the classroom, mabilis matuto ng physics.
02:27we get to love the subject because of Sir Hensaya.
02:47and I owe someone for this dream.
02:49Para siyang gift na binigay sa akin by someone who helped me grow as my hero.
03:00and I was able to immerse in a barrio elementary school in a far-flung area.
03:05My hero is actually my mother.
03:07She is also a teacher, an elementary school teacher,
03:11and she spent her 10 years of teaching career in the far-flung mountainous schools.
03:16Masasabi ko po na siyang aking hero at siyang nag-instill within me
03:21the values experienced as an example of a good teacher, a hero.
03:31na late na natutulog writing her lesson plan, preparing for her lessons.
03:36I actually joined her.
03:38Ako naman gumagawa ko ng mga assignments ko.
03:40Minsan, nagigising ako ng madaling araw around 3 to 4 a.m. para umibit.
03:48and preparing to walk kilometers to Igaratong Elementary School that time.
03:54And I'm so proud of my mom.
03:56Sometimes, she will bring our old school uniforms para ibigay sa mga estudyante,
04:01and she offered our house for her students to stay during competitions.
04:05One time, dinala niya ako actually sa Igaratong Elementary School.
04:09I was able to experience how tiring, risky my Nanay has to travel every week just to teach.
04:30My Nanay also allowed me to join her Grade 3 class.
04:34That time, I was Grade 2.
04:36Then, she let me help her teach some of her pupils who struggled in reading.
04:42I really did enjoy the experience.
04:44For students, she might be a simple teacher.
04:48A teacher, they always look up to.
04:50Pero para po sa akin, Nanay is more than a teacher.
04:53She is a superhero.
04:55If you will ask me, saan ba nanggaling yung pangarap na maging teacher?
04:59Nanay gifted me that.
05:01She gifted me the most precious gift I could ever wish for.
05:05The gift of experience, the gift of stories, the gift of inspiration.
05:10She gifted me my dream job, which is currently my profession po.
05:15She totally inspired me para maging isang teacher
05:20at i-push through yung profesyon ng pagtuturo.
05:31is how to keep ourselves inspired
05:34and paano po namin makayang mag-continue amidst the difficulties and the challenges.
05:46If you don't learn how to manage your stress,
05:51manage everything, mahihirapan ka po talaga.
05:55Many have suggested for me to transfer to a municipal school
06:03to teach in the college or to go abroad.
06:06However, the stories of these learners, the struggles in their learning and their awareness,
06:11their lack of awareness, their parents, yung mga magsasaka,
06:16who work hard yet earn a little,
06:19the poverty, the problems of the community we serve,
06:23these are the things that resonates within me and inspires me to continue teaching.
06:30Yung pinaka-fulfilling na lang po, yung nakukuha namin from serving as a teacher
06:36is that seeing our students enjoy our class.
06:39Especially kapag nakikita ko sila, yung mga faces nila,
06:42amazed na amazed sila and excited sila every time na may laboratory activities kami.
06:47And also hearing their stories, the stories of our graduates,
06:51mga napagtapos namin, they are thriving ngayon sa universities
06:55o sa mga magagandang universidad, public school,
06:58nagtatrive sila pursuing education as well.
07:01Marami po sa kanila, majority of them,
07:04pinili din po na magturo or i-pursue yung course of teaching.
07:09And of course, the respect we gain from the people in the community,
07:13napaka-overwhelming po, napaka-sarap po sa pakiramdam.
07:17They always seek our advice and help in the community activities.
07:29ay anywhere you go, you can hear numerous good morning po, good afternoon po,
07:34sir, masarap siya sa pakiramdam.
07:36And it feels like you have done something right.
07:39Parang, para po sa akin bilang isang millennial, parang I have found my purpose.
07:44I have found my purpose.
07:49Yung pinaka-ultimate dream ko siguro is that,
07:56that slowly they are achieving their aspirations in life.
08:00Nasa pabubuting lugar na din sila.
08:03May mga professions na sila.
08:05And yung family nila, from poverty, sana may ikiaahon nila.
08:09And yung pinaka-ultimate dream talaga, siguro bilang isang guru,
08:14gusto ko magkita yung isang community na paunti-unti
08:19nagiging mas magandang citizen na yung naproduce natin.
08:22Mas mabubuting mga Pilipino na yung naproduce natin.
08:26Parang sa panong paraan ba natin makikita na nakakapag-produce tayo
08:30ng mabubuting Pilipino or better citizens for this country.
08:34Siguro when the time na yung mga decisions natin
08:38especially when we choose our leaders, we have to choose the right leaders.
08:43The leaders that will help us and free us from corruption.
08:47That will prioritize our needs.
08:49That will prioritize education.
08:51Kasi yun talaga yung pinaka-mahalaga for a country to grow.
08:55There should be educated citizens.
08:57Siguro yung isa sa pinaka-ultimate dream is that
09:01to see these people in the mountainous area
09:04appreciate education, the importance of education
09:07and the perks of having education.
09:10Yun talaga.
