00:00I take you to the Chagos Islands, I don't mean literally, and the news that Peter Lamb,
00:04one of your colleagues down in Crawley where many Segossians live, has accused David Lammy
00:08of failing to listen to the wishes of the community by ceding control back. Why has
00:13this decision been taken and how do you react to the fact that Argentina's Foreign Minister
00:17Diana Medina is saying it's a step in the right direction regarding the Falklands, Mr Miliband?
00:21Well as for the Falklands, that's completely non-negotiable. Obviously it's completely
00:26non-negotiable. We're certainly not reopening that.
00:31Why the decision regarding the Chagos Islands when it is of such strategic importance?
00:36The Chagos Islands is a particular situation, Nick, where you know that for a long time there's
00:41been a dispute about issues around the Chagos Islands. We have a base, Diego Garcia, that is
00:47incredibly important that we protect. It's right to say, and this is not me blaming the last
00:52government. This is recognised as bipartisan. The negotiations were begun under the last
00:57government in 2022. 11 rounds of those negotiations happened under the last government. The last two
01:04happened under this government. So it was James Cleverley and David Lammy. This is actually
01:10bipartisan. This is a way to safeguard Britain's interests and end a very,
01:15very long-running dispute about the Chagos Islands.
