On 4 January 1973, after appearing in a commercial for tampons, she entered the Miss TV Europea beauty pageant: her victory opened the doors to cinema, where she made her debut that same year with the erotic My Husband's Friend. She later made an appearance in Emmanuelle 4 (1983), one of the countless minor films that followed the enormous success of the first film. In 1981, she also shot the most controversial film of her career, The Mischief Maker. A heavy smoker since the age of 11, in 2003 she was diagnosed with throat cancer and subsequently underwent three cycles of chemotherapy and surgery after the disease had spread to her lungs. On June 12, 2012, she suffered a stroke and was admitted to hospital in Amsterdam in critical condition. She died in her sleep, from esophageal and lung cancer, four months later, on the night between October 17 and 18, 2012, again in Amsterdam, at the age of 60. She was buried in Utrecht, her hometown, on October 26.

Nel 1981 girò anche il film più controverso della sua carriera, ovvero Lezioni maliziose.Accanita fumatrice dall'età di 11 anni, nel 2003 le venne diagnosticato un tumore alla gola e subì conseguentemente tre cicli di chemioterapia e chirurgia dopo che la malattia si era diffusa nei polmoni. Il 12 giugno 2012 fu vittima di un ictus e venne ricoverata in ospedale ad Amsterdam in condizioni critiche. Morì nel sonno, per un cancro esofageo e polmonare, quattro mesi dopo, nella notte tra il 17 e 18 ottobre 2012, sempre ad Amsterdam, all'età di 60 anni.
