05:59it I mean it's something that's always been in the game but the refs have just been really really
06:03strict on it now want to make sure that the team that are chasing after the ball have got the right
06:09away and it can be a really subtle movement and my argument was always if you're not looking over
06:14your shoulder you don't know where anyone's coming from you should be able to change your line but
06:18I was always getting told off so don't listen to me on that

07:07certainly something that they appear to be putting a huge premium on
07:12that was a nice attack there initially from Cardiff Ben Thomas getting over the gain line
07:15just going really direct trying to get Glasgow on the back foot but then you got

09:34he gives the ability to have a 6-2 split because if you bring young Ben Afshar on they know that
09:40he can slide out to the wing he's been doing it all as is this man about to kick the ball Tom Jordan

18:30Johnny Matthews the first Glasgow player to score 20 tries in the calendar year that was last year
18:37he knows more than anyone he's got a bit of work to do if he's to do it again this year because
18:41he's uh he's only scored six all right which is modest by his own standards in 2024
18:50but this one as they say run is right up his street
18:54it certainly is the times last season did we see this scenario unfold and turn into a try
19:01I'd like to go for that five meter yeah Glasgow and find a way to drive it whether they use
19:06sensors like staffing it down there they're going for a six man here just a straightforward drive
19:12but I can guarantee the man that'll want to get his hands on that ball as quick as possible as
19:16Johnny Matthews see what he can do in the open just there let's see what he can do at the back

22:36tell us about Tom Jordan strikes me as the perfect squad player comfortable at 10
22:40comfortable at 12 in either position he's outstanding isn't he yeah and we spoke about it
22:46before in terms of where they play Ben Thomas and whether he plays at 10 or 12 and what he's doing
22:53for his country well Tom Jordan yet to play for potentially Scotland he becomes eligible
22:59in the autumn test coming up just after New Zealand born isn't he he is New Zealand born
23:03yeah so after the Fiji game i think it is he becomes eligible through residency but he's just
23:09one of those players he's a tough bloke he slots in at 10 he was a standout player at 10 for me
23:14last season he was a big part of why they went and won that championship but easily slots in at 12
23:20and you've got someone like Duncan Weir and obviously now Adam Hastings who can jump in at 10
23:24so he can do it all and it just adds to the whole plan that Franco Smith has got going on you know
23:29you need these spot players that can chop and change spoke about Jamie Doby Tom Jordan for me
23:35just solid whatever job you give him he goes out and does it and he's one of those blokes
23:39is a tough trainer just there every week going at it full throttle we could say he's deputizing
23:46today for Adam Hastings we've got to make the point that Jordan started at 10 throughout the
23:54entire knockout phase didn't he last year or last season i should say yeah that's it so he
23:59deserved his place and he came through air actually air rugby club he came in he didn't
24:04get much of a look in i think it was when Danny Wilson was there obviously a man well known in
24:09these parts at Cardiff but when he did get his opportunity my god did he take it and he's been
24:15fantastic ever since he was so good against Munster in that semi-final abrasive abrasive
24:24that is a collector's item for Cardiff fans Sheedy inside to Mason Grady
24:29Grady tall and powerful here's Davis once more Sheedy out there to Thomas and when it's when it is over
24:42and i'm not quite sure who is above us fellas but whoever they are was absolutely delighted
24:48with that i suspect it might be members of the Cardiff coaching team could be Franco Smith
24:52watch this coach really well worked scrum just on the front foot he thought might have given
24:58penalty advantage Mason Grady on the inside just slips a little bit out of Jamie Doby's
25:03tackle but gets on the front foot then the ball here you just wonder what's Josh Mackay doing on
25:10the wing or Kyle Rowe who's he defending there's no one out there he has to come in to make a tackle
25:14but he's marking nobody no there is there's someone outside him there was one more on the edge

25:35Glasgow have been faultless there as well in the scrum so it's a bit of a marker there from Cardiff
25:40and this is exactly how Glasgow do not want to start the game letting Cardiff in this early
25:45shows you how rugby is easy when you get front foot ball and that carry from Mason Grady just
25:51allows Cardiff to get on that front foot yeah to see him now it's Haydn take it back
25:58but great angle from Winnett superb Camden Sheedy missing the conversion which is a part of his game
26:04he will want to improve over the coming weeks he's just four from ten this season now forty percent
26:10and if you consider that at this level these days the best kickers are well in excess of 80 percent
26:21and use it so we're through the opening quarter 12 points to seven Cardiff lead

28:14perhaps Cardiff probably shouldn't have been allowed to have and Rowe has just squeezed through
28:21two Cardiff defenders getting in one another's way and Kyle Rowe just saunters through
28:30well it starts with Tour Bellotto in this carry look at the power from the man on Sheedy
28:38he's blowing through there but like you said there Martin almost looked like they'd taken
28:42each other out a few of those in my time Lilo just clashing head with Ali Davies there trying
28:47to go around the player but he accelerates through him doesn't he like that's all you've
28:50got to try and find is a shoulder they say accelerate towards it well he's accelerated
28:56towards the insides of both their shoulders and left them both on the deck feeling a bit

29:13seasons ago for London Irish they're now defunct London Irish as a consequence of that he moved up
29:20to Scotland 12 tries last season for Glasgow two more for Scotland in the summer and now he's off
29:26the mark in the new season Jordan well the ironic applause tells you all you need to know it's 12
29:34points apiece it has been a cracking opening 23 minutes plenty of mistakes this the latest
29:40yeah really good again like Mason Grady on the front foot kind of haven't got time to recover
29:46but you're just saying you've got two players there you should be making that tackle you're
29:50going to have make Glasgow work that much to score that try Gavin Jenkins being very unhappy with that
29:56and fuming Bobby Hoyse win it the score of that second try for Cardiff so solid under that high
30:06ball as Domichowski play just inside the Glasgow half Aled Davis on to McNally that time the carry
30:17coming from uh Ben Donnell that just came off the foot of Doby he's there for grabbing
30:26in the end it's uh Gregor Brown who mocks things up and tidies it all up for Glasgow
30:33couldn't help but feel their Cardiff look like they're on the front foot with
30:36probably the right amount of numbers on the edge there to play and they're giving the ball away
30:44now the advantage now being played to Cardiff that was
30:47as a consequence of the kick from Doby

30:59the tackle from Gregor Brown who as we heard before the match just tackled everything that moved and more
31:08in that opening scrap against Ulster that was a fantastic game of rugby very different to this one

33:24yeah I know but I've got a feeling Cardiff have obviously targeting that breakdown they're looking
33:30to slow it down they know that Glasgow when they got front football and they got quick ball they're
33:34really really dangerous and they're going after all the rucks but at times I'm just looking at
33:40right on the edge there the refs let's go James just going back to have a look at that drop ball
33:46there if he hasn't had enough pain for Alan Lawrence time back on yeah showing that one
33:52again for the big fella it's those basics you've just got to get right really good so far let's
33:57keep it there especially when you get too many opportunities against this Glasgow team you've
34:02got to take them even the ruck before was a bit of a free-for-all players on the wrong side

34:22it's quite a story as Dan Thomas lost his job during the summer with Bristol
34:27had nowhere to play going into the new season with a bit of help from his mate so I think

34:38like he's almost playing for his job every time he goes out there and what a job he's doing you
34:43can't fault him at the start of the season he's been really good so is Josh McNally and Callum
34:49Sheedy the new guys have made a massive impact straight away big factor why they're two from
34:56two at the moment bear in mind they've got in the wing still not yet fit the likes of Tallulpi
35:02Faletau who has said he hopes to be back before the end of the month Alex Mann may come back at
35:08a similar time Thomas Young another fantastic player Josh Adams who's a little bit behind those
35:15has started doing some running and training but he may be back in time for November December
35:20two grabs taken there by Ben Thomas that's Hugh Jones
35:24who makes the tackle here's Allard Davis Teddy Williams once more
35:32well despite the mistakes and there have been many by
35:35Cardiff in this opening half hour or so it's certainly been their best half hour of the season
35:41so far win it all picked up beautifully by Mason Grady but just running out of
35:49green plastic over on the far side
35:55and they're playing some nice rugby as well I'm talking before the game weren't we Shanks and
36:00saying that what is their DNA and you mentioned it would be similar to what Glasgow are they want
36:06to try and play a brand of rugby where they can go wide but also they can smash up through the
36:09middle and do they have the power game at the moment showing glimpses of that power it's just
36:14making sure they've got the accuracy and yeah they can get that they can be a dangerous team
36:18this season it's just retaining ball at the moment so far his first 30 minutes they've got
36:25two tries which is a fantastic reward for it but there's been a few occasions where they have lost
36:29the ball in contact but you have to say 12 all 30 minutes in it's a good positive start
36:37especially the way they started last last week against Scarlet's they'll be happy they know that
36:42they can get stronger throughout the game they're at home they've got the crowd behind them
36:48you need Azzurrati and Domichalski to stay fit oh exactly they've been brilliant in that scrum
36:52and again that's a huge weapon isn't it they've taken a couple scouts there already in this game

38:35been quite high there was space there and that's the issue you got you think you can get the ball
38:41there because you can see grass and players outside you but when you've got a player coming
38:46up the line like that like Tom Jordan he's just read that really well from Callum Sheedy
38:52good pace as well Brian finish that off you want to take it take as long as you can on that because
38:57he'll be blowing but you just look Glasgow have just defended this middle third haven't they
39:02really well Cardiff we was talking about the way they're attacking and they're building some nice
39:07phases and they're making mistakes but Glasgow just really good at containing teams and that's
39:12what we've seen in the opening two games but as I said before Franco Smith wants them to attack
39:17that picture there you can see what Callum Sheedy sees you can see all the players outside
39:22there is a natural overlap there but it's really good defense work from Tom Jordan just
39:30bit of bit of bravery trust comes out the line and gets his team seven points
39:38well here's an interesting change Gab Hamer-Webb is on and he's replaced Ray Lilo
39:44so I think we can assume that Mason Grady's going to move into the midfield now

42:22there's a glimpse from Hugh Jones there a little half break from him being quite
42:33quiet so far everything really has been Turpuloto in the centres you sort of forget what a class
42:40player Hugh Jones is probably seeing a little bit more as the game opens up
42:47well it wouldn't be overstating things to say that those two
42:50one of the best midfield partnerships in world rugby look at that Turpuloto right on cue
42:57just running around the defenders and through them Sione Turpuloto
43:04an individual score that's kind of that you rarely see these days that is a great individual score
43:12but that is woeful defense the first part is beautiful from him just show and go got a big
43:20man on a small man but one two three nearly tackles he just goes through
43:30again on Callum Sheedy which is exactly what he would have looked at
43:34when you're taking that ball off the line out you'd have known that Callum Sheedy would be
43:37there you want a one-on-one with him you want your best ball carriers on your smaller defenders
43:42but that was hardly any tackling on him whatsoever like a game of touch
43:50the champions clinch the try bonus point in a little more than 35 minutes but the problem is
43:57we mentioned him Hugh Jones look what he's doing at the back he goes out the back and that just
44:01holds Ben Thomas from being able to help Sheedy out so you leave him one-on-one with one of the
44:07best attackers in in the world at the moment talking about him potentially being a Lions
44:12next year captain there you have it you've heard it here from Shanks
44:26now I wonder how much has that broken the spirit of Cardiff
44:31so good in many parts no hands now but defensively they have been exposed we spoke about at the start
44:39of the game Martin about like Glasgow just able to hit you quickly and hard and you know you blink
44:44and score two tries in a short period it's really important now Cardiff get themselves back into this
44:49game well every time they play this season whether it's in this competition
45:01or the champions cup there will be a target on the backs of Glasgow
45:05over in this competition of course is defending champions
45:12and as defending champions when it gets to the champions cup they are very much the torchbearers

46:30Webb here he just steps towards him he knows that he's going to try and make the tackle
46:34and the cover isn't there for Hugh Jones who is just on his shoulder a lot of missed tackles
46:39from Cardiff at the moment so many there will be time for a restart you've got to do better than that
46:48you've got to be aware of your surroundings your situation when the ball's in the air
46:51you've got to be thinking right that's my man i've got to slow my feet down i've got to come in
46:54at the right angle it's a beautiful offload from huge uh from Tom Jordan to Hugh Jones on the inside
