00:00Good evening and welcome to Medea TV. Thank you for joining us for a new newscast. Here are the headlines.
00:22Today, the 19th summit of the Francophonie. The head of the government represents His Majesty the King Mohammed VI at this summit and on the subject of creating, innovating and undertaking in French.
00:36The Kingdom of Morocco is not at all concerned by the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union made today regarding the agricultural and fishing agreements. The details of the announcement in a moment.
00:47In addition to the gang of Gaza, Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon. On Thursday night, on Friday, the Israeli army brought to the south of Beirut one of the most violent raids since the intensification of these bombings targeting the center country.
01:01Aziz Akhnouch represents His Majesty the King Mohammed VI at the 19th summit of the Francophonie. At its arrival, the head of the government was welcomed by Emmanuel Macron as well as by the Secretary General of the International Organization of the Francophonie, Louise Mouchikiwabo.
01:18Mouchikiwabo, since joining the OIF in 1981, Morocco has been able to position itself as a key player through its active participation in the work of the various institutions of the organization, a dynamism that testifies to the will of the Kingdom to contribute to the promotion of values, cultural diversity, multilingualism and international cooperation.
01:40In front of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Spanish Congress, the head of the Spanish Diplomacy, José Manuel Alvarez, reiterated the unwavering position of his country regarding the Moroccanity of the Sahara. I propose to listen to him.
01:56Our position is that of April 7. The Spanish-Moroccan declaration is known and more and more European countries and other parts of the world are joining it. A few days before, it was Denmark. You also know the letter of Emmanuel Macron a few months ago.
02:15It is a declaration similar to that of Spain and whose terms are very close. So this is where Spain is and where we will continue to be.
02:31The Kingdom of Morocco does not consider itself at all concerned by the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union made today regarding the agricultural and fishing agreements. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the content of these decisions contains legal errors, obvious and errors of suspected facts.
02:51The European Court of Justice of the European Union
02:55The European Court of Justice of the European Union confirms the cancellation of the agricultural and fishing agreements between Morocco and the European Union. This definitive suspension is based on controversial reasons.
03:05Morocco is not concerned by this case between the European Union and the Polisario supported by Algeria.
03:12Morocco also did not participate in any of the phases of this procedure and therefore does not consider itself at all concerned by this decision. The so-called decision arouses many reactions.
03:23In a joint statement, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the representative of the European Union, José Borrell, reaffirmed on Friday the commitment of the European Union in favor of more preservation and strengthening of its close relations with Morocco in all areas, in accordance with the pacta sunt servanda principle, that is, the conventions must be respected.
03:46A rare act that underlines the importance of Morocco and materializes the importance of the partnership of the European Union with the Kingdom.
03:53The two officials also reiterated the great value that the European Union attaches to its strategic partnership with Morocco, which is long-standing, vast and deep.
04:02The two officials also indicated that Brussels takes note of the suspension of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the appeals against the suspension of the court on September 29, 2021, as well as the response to the request for prejudicial decisions relating to the ticking of fruits and vegetables from the southern provinces of the Kingdom, adding that the European Commission is currently analyzing the suspension in detail.
04:24On his side, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Alvarez, emphasized the respect by the government of his country for the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union while defending the strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Morocco and the will to maintain it.
04:39Alvarez thus highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between his country and Morocco for both parties, as well as the benefits it has brought to the fishing and agriculture sectors.
04:49Morocco demands that the Council, the European Commission and the Member States of the European Union take the necessary measures to respect their international commitments, preserve the achievements of the partnership and bring to the Kingdom the legal security it legitimately has as a partner of the European Union on several strategic issues.
05:08In this context, Morocco reiterates its constant position of not subscribing to any agreement or legal instrument that does not respect its territorial integrity and national unity.
05:20The Israeli army continues its murderous strikes targeting Lebanon. Since the beginning of the Israeli offensive, more than 2,000 sites have been targeted by TSAHL. Israeli troops have led a raid in eastern Lebanon, cutting a vital road network with Assyria.
05:33About 310,000 people, mainly Syrians, fled recently to the neighboring country via the Mesna border post. Three hospitals have announced that they will suspend their activities due to Israeli strikes nearby.
05:50The allies of Iran will not back down against Israel. A statement made by the Supreme Guide of Iran in the face of the intensification of Israeli attacks, Ali Khamenei, warned on Friday that his allies would continue the fight against Israel.
06:02In parallel, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Tehran was supporting the efforts for a simultaneous ceasefire in Lebanon and in the Gaza Strip.
06:10The international community had called for an immediate ceasefire of 21 days between Israel and Hezbollah, an initiative ignored by the Hebrew state, which, on the contrary, intensified its strikes and eliminated Hezbollah's Secretary General, Hassan Nasrallah.
06:28We now turn to the United States to look at the presidential election on November 5.
06:40Kamala Harris was on display this Thursday with Republican Liz Cheney, who called on Americans to choose the side of truth rather than Donald Trump.
06:52In the key state of Wisconsin, former Vice President Jake Cheney's daughter spoke for Kamala Harris in Ripon. Ripon is the place where the Republican Party was imagined in 1854.
07:03On the 33rd day of the presidential election, the Democratic candidate hopes that this kind of support, taken in the conservative camp, can influence the few indecisive remaining.
07:12At a meeting yesterday in Michigan, Donald Trump praised his heavy-tax projects on imports, supposed to protect American industries.
07:22On the 33rd day of the presidential election, the American electoral campaign is in full swing, a campaign marked by intense debates between Republicans and Democrats.
07:31We listen to the analysis of security and strategy expert Hassan Saoud.
08:01The election has been, it seems, half and half. So there are still four weeks, an eternity, and a very short time for the right-wing polls.
08:15But according to some slightly aggregated polls, there is an advantage for the vice president, especially in three or four swing states.
08:31The popular vote certainly turns to the advantage of this one, but the popular vote does not mean success.
08:41And Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Al Gore, we had the experience. It is the great electors who make a presidency, and out of the 538 great electors, there must be 270.
09:00My favorite polls, these last weeks, will still give.
09:11The confrontation between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump becomes an identity battle.
09:15The Democratic vice president is in favor of the establishment of broad freedoms in terms of reproductive rights, including the right to abortion.
09:22And his rival reflects a conservative Republican Party that calls for the tightening of the laws.
09:27So the Democrats call for strengthening individual freedoms.
09:30The Republicans emphasize the need to preserve family values by mobilizing the sectors against the movement of hawkishness.
09:37End of the election campaign in Tunisia. A few days from the poll, the election silence is decreed from today at midnight.
09:57For Tunisians living abroad, the voting process has started this morning.
10:01Explanations with Nejoa Bechat.
10:04Sunday, October 6, Tunisian voters are waiting for the polls.
10:09President Sorten Recessaïde, who was democratically elected in 2019, is about to take a second mandate.
10:17He will only have two opponents in front of him, one of whom is in prison and accused of falsification of sponsorship.
10:25As part of the presidential election, he is sentenced to 12 years in prison.
10:31During a press conference, the director of the election campaign of Haye Chezamel said she was confident about the pursuit of the presidential race, despite the harassment.
10:47I call on Tunisians to vote for Haye Chezamel.
10:50Each vote is one day in prison, two months for Haye Chezamel.
10:53The vote of Tunisians will therefore free all political prisoners and all journalists imprisoned for their opinions.
11:02As for the second candidate, Zoheyl Marzeoui, the slogan is emphasized, another Tunisia is possible.
11:09These electoral promises are articulated around a national, social and sovereign project.
11:16Emphasizing that this project will be implemented within the framework of respect for rights and freedoms.
11:23I did not lead an electoral campaign, but a militant campaign.
11:29I say to Tunisians, if today you are 40% afraid, know that if the situation continues, you will be 100% afraid.
11:39The solution is to close the parenthesis.
11:44In a speech pronounced at the headquarters of his electoral campaign, the outgoing president, Qaissa Saïd,
11:51stressed that this deadline represents a crucial opportunity to determine the fate of the country.
11:57Qaissa Saïd said that yesterday's enemy has become today's friend.
12:02Denouncing behind-the-scenes maneuvers aimed at destabilizing the country and preventing the organization of the scrutin.
12:14I call on the entire Tunisian population to participate massively in the scrutin.
12:20It is the people who hold power, it is they who decide.
12:24And the people's choices will be decisive for the future of the country.
12:30The election campaign of the candidates for the Tunisian presidential election
12:35ends on Friday in Tunisia, 24 hours before the presidential scrutin, scheduled for October 6.
12:46Tunisian voters are called to the polls this Sunday.
12:49In addition to the outgoing president, two candidates are out.
12:52Qaissa Saïd will face Zohel Merzawi, a defender of pan-Arabism and a strong supporter of a real electoral base.
12:58And Ayéchi Zéhémil, imprisoned on the day of the condemnation of his candidacy for falsification of sponsorship.
13:04The candidate has recently been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
13:07I propose to listen to the analysis of Sihem Badi, former Tunisian minister and political activist.
13:13We are still in the authoritarian-autocratic drift, in all its splendor.
13:20We have only one candidate.
13:22Really, we have only one candidate, Qaissa Saïd,
13:27because there is one who is condemned and who cannot campaign behind the bars.
13:32And we have another candidate who is also condemned to be faithful to his master,
13:37faithful to Qaissa Saïd.
13:39So it's just to make a good impression that he's here.
13:42So we have only one candidate who is leading the campaign alone,
13:47of course, using everything he has in his position,
13:52everything that belongs to the state, he puts it in his position to lead alone,
13:58and I say alone, his campaign.
14:01Of course, these elections have had a go-ahead from start to finish.
14:06So at the beginning, first exclude all other candidates,
14:10put the only candidate who has been validated in prison.
14:14So we cannot talk today about presidential, transparent elections
14:22that take place under normal conditions.
14:25How many times has there been a disrespect of the law,
14:29whether on the part of the election office or the president?
14:37He has changed the rules of the game a week before the ballot,
14:44even before going to the polls, which is completely illegal.
14:48You can't change the rules of the game during the game.
14:51So there, he still changed the laws.
14:56And even the laws that were voted by his assembly,
14:59they were still corrected and rectified after the decision of the assembly.
15:06In Senegal, with the approach of the anticipated legislatives,
15:10political treaties are accelerating for the formation of alliances.
15:13The challenge, to win votes and also to fail at the descent of a new power in place.
15:18The opposition coalition TACOAL in Senegal would have designated
15:21the former president Macky Sall as head of the list of its anticipated legislatives.
15:25So will Senegal face a new confrontation between Macky Sall and Ousmane Sonko?
15:30We listen to the answer of dear Sadi Boundiaye, a specialist in political science.
15:35You know, the confrontation is there because Macky Sall was the president of the Republic
15:41and he had a fierce opponent named Ousmane Sonko.
15:44Ousmane Sonko was practically at the forefront of the political scene
15:47when he was in the opposition.
15:49But even when he was prevented from presenting himself at the level of these elections,
15:53he had the intelligence to put in front of the scene his, if I may say so,
15:58his brother-in-law Bassir Oujama El Fahy, who finally won these elections.
16:02Now there is another battle that is going to take place in these elections
16:06between the former president of the Republic and the current prime minister,
16:10who benefits from all the powers at the level of this executive.
16:13Will this confrontation be a healthy confrontation between these two men?
16:17Or will the Senegalese not be able to confirm what happened during the presidential elections?
16:22Because we also know that Ousmane Sonko really surpasses the Senegalese political class
16:30because of his exit, because of his position in relation to internal problems,
16:34in relation to socio-economic problems.
16:36Now, as prime minister, he has presented a project,
16:39a program that he intends to put in place in the next five years
16:42to allow Senegal to be part of these emerging countries,
16:46but also to be part of these countries that will take responsibility for their sovereignty.
16:50Now, this duel may be really grandiose in front of the Senegalese population
16:56because the Senegalese are mature on the electoral level.
17:00The Senegalese have been voting since the 1800s.
17:03In Bamako, following the floods and the rising waters of the Niger River,
17:06some inhabitants are forced to move in pirogues.
17:10This is the case of the Bozo community, which lives on foot in the water every day.
17:14This is a report by Mohamed Dagnoko.
17:17Picking up his clothes, holding his shoes in his hands,
17:20and walking in the water to reach his room
17:23has become the daily routine of the inhabitants of Bozo Danka,
17:26in Badala Bougou, in district 5 of Bamako.
17:30Djeneba Koumari does practically everything in the water, even the kitchen.
17:36Our community loves water, but this time there is too much water
17:41and we have nowhere to go.
17:43So we do practically everything in the water.
17:46I'm even cooking right now, but there is water.
17:49To fly to the rescue of this community, cut off from its mosque because of the rising waters,
17:55the Embassy of Canada in Mali, through the Open Mali NGO,
17:59made a donation of living and non-living, worth 12 million francs.
18:04Today, I announced a global contribution of 400,000 dollars,
18:10or 174 million francs CFA on the scale of Mali,
18:14to respond to the situation of the floods,
18:17including 22 million francs CFA or 50,000 Canadian dollars,
18:21in particular for the communities that are very affected here on the banks of the Niger River.
18:27The authorities congratulate that this action is taking place in the month of October,
18:32month of solidarity and aid to Mali.
18:35Today, it is to thank the Open Mali NGO
18:39and the Embassy of Canada in Mali,
18:42and to say that the highest authorities in Mali think of all the Malians where they are.
18:48On board this pirogue on the Niger River in Bamako,
18:51you can see just behind me the village of Bozo, of the fishermen.
18:57The rise of the waters has caused serious damage here.
19:00Today, everything is done, the feet in the water, the kitchen, the household, everything is done, the feet in the water.
19:06With this rise in waters, the populations here who live from fishing exclusively
19:11are struggling today to have fish and to meet their most basic needs.
19:17Mohamed Dagnoko for Median TV Africa, Bamako.
