00:00Ladies and gentlemen, this bout will be contested under extreme rules.
00:08There will be no count outs and no disqualifications.
00:12The only way to win this match is by pinfall or submission.
00:18Oh yeah!
00:25Introducing first, from Cameron, North Carolina, weighing 236 pounds, Matt Hardy!
00:33I've run into Matt Hardy a number of times this week and boy, he's different.
00:38The glow is gone, it's been replaced by troubled eyes, a blank stare, a can't be bothered attitude.
00:44And I know JR, you were responsible for really bringing the Hardy boys into world wrestling entertainment at one time.
00:49That is completely different than he once was.
00:52Well, the Hardys grew up in rural North Carolina, watching WWE programming religiously.
00:58Their goal of a lifetime was to make it in WWE, and they've done that.
01:03My gosh, the success they've had as a tag team in TLC matches, it's astonishing.
01:09But Matt Hardy has what I call evil envy of his old little brother.
01:40And his opponent, from Cameron, North Carolina, weighing 225 pounds, Jeff Hardy!
01:52There has never been a rock act that has played Reliant Stadium before a sellout crowd that got any bigger ovation than we just heard for Jeff Hardy.
02:04Jeff Hardy wanted to avoid this night at all costs.
02:08He didn't want to fight his brother, even after Matt Hardy cost him his lifelong dream, the WWE Championship.
02:14But when Matt Hardy admitted to setting a fire which cost Jeff's dog, Jack, his life.
02:21Now, wait a minute, wait a minute now. Matt never admitted that.
02:24Well, he gave enough indications.
02:26Well, he didn't admit it.
02:27He wasn't man enough to admit it.
02:30The bottom line is this, you have to understand what Jack, that dog meant to Jeff Hardy.
02:34That dog was Jeff's rock.
02:36That could have been an accident.
02:44This match isn't an accident.
02:46I guarantee you that, nothing in this match is going to be an accident.
02:49Anything goes.
02:50Extreme rules.
02:51Yeah, no disqualification, no count out.
02:53It's got to end by pin or submission.
02:56And Jeff Hardy wasted little time trying to punish his brother.
03:00And we know that both Matt and Jeff Hardy will take chances galore.
03:04This match can be termed as risk or-
03:10Jeff Hardy.
03:11Matt can't say-
03:12That was a WrestleMania poster at one time, and you know what?
03:15Now it looks like Matt finally got his face on a WrestleMania poster.
03:18That was another bone of contention that Matt was a little upset and jealous about.
03:23Now Matt has been framed at WrestleMania.
03:25Again, all these weapons are illegal under extreme rules.
03:30No count outs.
03:31These men can stay outside and fight outside the ring as long as their bodies will allow it.
03:36Did you ever believe you'd see this day happen?
03:39I didn't.
03:43Jeff Hardy taking Matt out.
03:44And that's kicking that hip of Jeff Hardy right into the sternum of his older brother.
03:53A human thrill show.
03:56Well, these two.
03:57Somebody's going to get hurt and get hurt badly.
03:59I got a feeling in this match.
04:01Well, for the longest time throughout this rivalry,
04:03Jeff Hardy had so much respect for his brother Matt.
04:06He wouldn't touch him.
04:07He wouldn't hit him.
04:08He wouldn't bring himself to do that.
04:09He refused to fight.
04:11But it's come to this.
04:15Here comes Z.
04:16Riff taking Jeff Hardy.
04:19You leave your feet.
04:20You take a chance.
04:21Sometimes you crash and burn.
04:23Nobody knows what you're going to do before you're going to do it any better than your own brother.
04:32Jeff Hardy attempting a whisper in the wind and got steel instead.
04:38Cover by Matt.
04:39And a kick out.
04:42Man, oh man.
04:44When they say extreme rules, it doesn't get any more extreme than this.
04:48As Jeff comes off, caught low with a chair in midair.
04:53How the hell did Matt Hardy look at his brother Jeff in the eyes and say that,
04:57You're not my partner.
04:58You're not my brother.
04:59The only person I care about is myself.
05:07What was that?
05:08A shot back.
05:11A drive back.
05:14And Matt Hardy again looking to put this one away quickly.
05:17And Jeff Hardy kicking out.
05:19You know guys, there was a great, great article on WWE.com called Sibling Diaries.
05:24A look at the Hardys during WrestleMania week.
05:26And there was one telling sign of what was going on between these two men.
05:29Jeff Hardy received a phone call from his father.
05:32Spoke with his father for 20 minutes about pleading with Jeff not to have this matchup tonight.
05:37Their father tried to reach out to Matt.
05:39Matt refused to take the phone call for four days.
05:43Well, that doesn't surprise me about Matt Hardy.
05:45Side effect on that steel chair.
05:47And Jeff has been trying to do it.
05:49That could do it.
05:51Well, you got to remember also that these two are raised in a single parent home.
05:55They lost their mother when they were both young kids.
05:58Their dad has raised them.
06:00And so can you imagine the emotion their father's going through seeing things like this right here.
06:06One son driving another into the steel chair.
06:09Back of Jeff's head crashing into that steel chair.
06:13He's got to be dazed.
06:15Matt Hardy basically saying the only reason Jeff Hardy has survived in this business and in life is because of him.
06:22Because Matt Hardy was Jeff's guiding light in Matt's words.
06:25Well, you know what?
06:26There was probably a point in their life where that was completely true.
06:28I agree.
06:29You know, with most big brothers, that's the way it is.
06:31They watch out for their kid brother.
06:34They're their protector, so to speak.
06:37Isn't it the old adage?
06:38Doesn't it go that when a man turns his back on his family, he ain't no good?
06:45Well, King, that's an old saying.
06:46You got him.
06:47I don't know if I've ever exactly heard that.
06:49Well, I'll tell you this.
06:51The point is that Matt Hardy was Jeff Hardy's leader.
06:55The leader of the group.
06:57Jeff is a free spirit.
06:58Jeff dances to the beat of his own drum.
07:01And sometimes that drum replaces Jeff.
07:03Sometimes, you know, maybe Matt felt that kinship more so than Jeff did.
07:08Like I said, I think that's what Matt felt.
07:11That Jeff just finally, after all the brotherhood that Matt had shunk in the
07:16years, then all of a sudden, Jeff goes off on his own.
07:19Oh, no.
07:20Table in place.
07:22These two know all about tables at WrestleMania.
07:25Look at the amazing TLC matches that they teamed and won at WrestleMania.
07:30Suddenly, Jeff Hardy turning the tables.
07:32And Jeff Hardy starting to build momentum.
07:35Jeff with that clothesline.
07:37But you notice, as Jeff flew through the air, he was twisting his body to get
07:42more torque from the ground.
07:44And Jeff Hardy, he's got it.
07:46He's got it.
07:47He's got it.
07:48He's got it.
07:49He's got it.
07:50He's got it.
07:51He's got it.
07:52He's got it.
07:53He's got it.
07:54He's got it.
07:55Jeff Hardy starting to get more torque from that clothesline.
07:57The reckless abandon of Jeff Hardy.
07:59You hear Matt's spine crash off the steel.
08:05And let me tell you, steel always wins.
08:07I can remember the days you and I would open his head up there on those steps.
08:20I can remember calling matches when the parties were as good as any tag team
08:25that's ever been in the WWE and now we are trying to destroy each other.
08:31Party's finding all kinds of things under that ring tonight.
08:34Extreme rules, Jeff and Matt, five time tag team champions together.
08:40The heck of a team with three straight WrestleMania's, 16, 17 and 18.
08:44They're a tremendous team.
08:47Jeff's gonna take out the garbage now.
08:50And if you just, if you didn't know, you'd think these two men were total
08:55strangers and just adversaries and enemies, but they're blood brothers.
09:00Look out.
09:00And Jeff wants to put it away here before Matt kicks out.
09:15There have been very few brother versus brother rivalries at WrestleMania.
09:25Tim, Bret Hart versus Owen Hart, The Undertaker and Kane at 14.
09:30And now this at WrestleMania 25.
09:33Have any of those ever been this personal?
09:37I don't think any two brothers are ever any closer than these two.
09:40And a smart time attempt missed.
09:44Again, when you're raised as the only siblings in your family,
09:47without a mom and your dad working, you spend all that time together.
09:51You grow close.
09:53It's a very unique bond.
09:55Twist of fate.
09:56And Matt Hardy looking to put his brother away.
09:59One, two.
10:00No. No and a kick out by Jeff.
10:06See the look in the eyes of Matt.
10:09Certainly in biblical terms, King, I know you're up on this.
10:12Modern day Kane and Abel, Matt Hardy versus Jeff Hardy.
10:17Well, we don't go that far.
10:18Now that ended.
10:19Swanton.
10:24Matt just, here to call for the Swanton?
10:28He did.
10:29Obviously so did Jeff.
10:40A superplex.
10:43So much high impact.
10:47And there's only so much a body's gonna be able to withstand.
10:50And again, that chair is legal.
10:52And remember, the steel chair is how this all started.
10:57Matt Hardy using the steel chair at the Royal Rumble to cost his brother the
11:02championship.
11:03Yeah, that's all, just to cost his younger brother the richest prize in WWE.
11:08The WWE Championship.
11:19That's what we talked about, the evil envy.
11:21Watch this.
11:22Listen, listen.
11:23Three.
11:25A family divided.
11:27And it became totally unwound at the Royal Rumble.
11:33Well, remember earlier that night at the Rumble, JR,
11:35Matt Hardy had failed to win back the ECW Championship.
11:39Tell me, what is Jeff thinking here now?
11:40He's got his brother Matt right across that table, a steel chair, and.
11:48Well, Jeff Hardy said earlier that he was, as his brother, sick and twisted.
11:54And if Jeff Hardy has got something sick and twisted, it would appear on his mind.
11:59Matt Hardy, not moving.
12:08Matt Hardy in a defenseless state.
12:11And Jeff Hardy with evil intentions.
12:15Hold on, wait a minute.
12:16Jeff, this is extreme.
12:21This is sick, twisted, and extreme.
12:23To the left hand, no!
12:24No!
12:25No!
12:25No!
12:31Broken chairs and broken bodies.
12:35And a broken brotherhood.
12:43Either one of these guys may be able to get up from this.
12:46It has come to this.
12:47What?
12:48No!
12:48No!
12:49No!
12:49No!
12:50No!
12:50No!
12:51No!
12:51No!
12:52No!
12:52No!
12:53No!
12:53No!
12:54No!
12:55How much more extreme can this match become?
13:01Jeff back on his feet.
13:03I'm absolutely amazed.
13:04Matt's dead weight, he's not moving.
13:08It may be academic at this point.
13:10Mercifully, maybe this is over.
13:13For Matt, for both of these young men.
13:16What?
13:17Jeff Hardy.
13:17Move!
13:18No!
13:18No!
13:19No!
13:19No!
13:20He needs to get his foot on the bottom rope.
13:22Matt Hardy could not kick out.
13:24But luckily for him, he was close enough to the ropes
13:27to use the ropes to break the cage.
13:31Just enough strength to lift his leg.
13:34Matt didn't.
13:35Dope it over that bottom rope.
13:37Let's take one more look at this fantastic fly.
13:41But an extreme landing.
13:44Uh-oh.
13:46Those are the tables left from that Money in the Bank,
13:51or the ladders, rather, left from that Money in the Bank
13:53ladder match.
13:54Believe me, Jeff Hardy knows how to use the ladders.
13:58Well, we've seen tables.
13:59We've seen chairs thus far.
14:01It's only apparently appropriately
14:03in some sort of perverse way that we now see ladders.
14:07I think that Jeff might be beginning
14:09to get frustrated.
14:10Whoa!
14:14Just a little exclamation point there.
14:19Gosh, how high is this ladder?
14:21Watch this again.
14:24Matt Hardy has not recovered from that double-stack chair
14:28that Jeff Hardy has been using.
14:32Matt Hardy has not recovered from that double-stack chair
14:37or table encounter just a few moments ago.
14:41And now two giant ladders.
14:43Ladders being set side by side, one bigger than the other.
14:47If Matt had recovered from the table crash,
14:50then he sure wouldn't have recovered
14:53from that leg drop off that chair.
14:55Now what has Jeff got in mind?
14:56Well, of course, the unique enigma.
15:01The intrepid Jeff Hardy.
15:04Absolutely fearless is Jeff Hardy.
15:07Jeff Hardy!
15:08Oh, my God!
15:10Jeff Hardy's fine first from the top of the ladder.
15:22He must have been near 20 feet in the air.
15:27The referee has helped us to stop this match
15:31under the rules of extreme rules.
15:33Look at this again.
15:34This match may just have stopped itself.
15:39The lower part of the spine of Jeff Hardy
15:43crashing from that huge ladder.
15:47Matt looks to be-
15:48Wait, wait, wait, wait a minute.
15:50Jeff Hardy-
15:51No!
15:52Jeff Hardy's head twisted in that chair!
15:57The twist of Fate of the Steel!
16:00And Matt Hardy has ruined another moment
16:03for his brother Jeff.
16:05Matt Hardy!
16:08Did Matt Hardy get what he wanted here tonight?
16:11Was it satisfaction for him?
16:14The thing about it is that Jeff Hardy
16:17takes one chance too many.
16:20Could that be what we can say in hindsight?
16:23I think the answer to both your questions is yes.
16:26Yes, Jeff Hardy took one chance too many
16:31and thus he's lying there flat on his back.
16:34And yes, I believe Matt Hardy is fulfilled right now.
16:38He has to feel.
16:39How can you feel fulfilled?
16:41How can you feel fulfilled when you just beat the-
16:43He did what he came here to do!
16:44He did what he came to WrestleMania 25 to do.
16:47That's right, Michael.
16:48As far as Matthew Moore Hardy's concerned,
16:51it was only about beating his brother
16:53at WrestleMania 25.
16:55And come hell or high water,
16:57that's exactly what Matt Hardy has done.
17:00Yeah, but at some point,
17:01family's a bit more important than ego self-preservation.
17:05This is absolutely unbelievable.
17:08How does that not break your spine or your-
17:11Look at this.
17:12This was the risk that Jeff Hardy perhaps
17:16and obviously should not have taken.
17:18This was the move that Matt Hardy capitalized on.
17:22And then this in the chair!
17:24That was the end.
17:25The neck in the chair!
17:27Twist of fate!
17:28I've never seen that before!
17:34This brotherly bond is still blown up.
17:40A sad story of a family divided
17:43and maybe a body broken.
17:45A family divided.
17:47A family crushed.
17:52Yeah.
