World Junior Judo Championships in Dushanbe: Heavyweights enter the stage

First-ever victories for Uzbekistan, Colombia and South Korea in the championship.

00:00Welcome to the fourth day of 2024 World Junior Judo Championship in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe.
00:06After three incredible days of judo, we find ourselves on the day of the heavyweights.
00:10The event was officially opened by Director-General of the IGF Vlad Marinescu and Ismail Mehmet Zoyer, President of Tajik Judo.
00:22During the grand ceremony, which included some of Tajikistan's biggest judo stars and impressive performances,
00:27the crowd celebrated the birthday of Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan.
00:38There was history for Colombia. At minus 78 kilos, Brenda Olaya brilliantly took her German opponent backwards to claim her country's first ever Junior World Champion.
00:49Rustam Emomali, the mayor of Dushanbe, awarded the medals.
00:57I'm very excited. I've worked hard for this. It's my last junior year, so it's super.

01:17Uzbekistan's Mohammad Sodik Sodikov fought in the minus 100-kilogram final and a well-executed Tomoe Nage, scoring Wazaari, earned him the junior title.

01:36We needed this gold very much. The whole team was supporting me, so a big thank you to them.
01:42It was my first time in Tajikistan. It's very nice, and the spectators were a great support.

02:03At plus 78 kilograms, Heon Ji Lee gave a good performance. The Korean fighter defeated Celia Kankan of France in the final.
02:13Gulnora Kenja Kasanzoda, Tajikistan Minister of Labour, Migration and Employment, awarded the medals.
02:20Deniz Bacayev capitalized on a mistake from Azerbaijan's Kenan Nasibov to secure an inescapable hold-down in the plus 100-kilogram final, earning him the gold.
02:41It was presented to him by the Tajik Judo President, Ismail Mamedzoyer.
02:49The excited crowd will be back tomorrow for the mixed team event.
