00:00I've gotten to a place where it doesn't really matter what people write or say,
00:05because it's only an instant of my life.
00:09Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks
00:12for the controversial moments that shattered the world of TV.
00:15I don't see a path for this family to come back from this.
00:18I don't see a path for redemption in the television world.
00:26Now I can see why you like Ice Trey, he's a lot of fun.
00:29Everything's a joke to him. School, work, people, he doesn't care about anything.
00:34Yeah, well he always managed to care about me.
00:36Arguably the most infamous recast in TV sitcom history,
00:39this one saw Janet Hubert exit the role of Aunt Viv on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
00:42after three seasons.
00:44At the time, Hubert's departure was reported to be the result of a bitter feud
00:47with the series star Will Smith.
00:49It would take nearly three decades for the record to be set straight.
00:52During the Fresh Prince reunion special in 2020,
00:55Hubert and Smith settled the argument,
00:57and the former revealed that she was in fact not fired.
01:00Instead, she had rejected a bad deal by the producers,
01:03which would have prevented her from working anywhere else for 10 weeks.
01:07I had a new baby and a husband who was out of work,
01:11so I said no. I did not accept their offer.
01:15Rather than negotiate the contract, Hubert was replaced with Daphne Maxwell-Reed.
01:19I cannot believe that you and Carlton are moving into your own place.
01:23Seems like just yesterday when I was wiping the tears from his eyes.
01:28No, no, that was yesterday, Aunt Viv.
01:29I told you that boy wasn't ready for Jurassic Park yet.
01:37You know she's from Tree Hill?
01:39Yeah, I know.
01:45I take it you're not a fan.
01:47This teen drama series was created and executive produced by Mark Schwann,
01:50who also wrote and directed several episodes.
01:53While the show ended on a high note in 2012,
01:55it wasn't until five years later that disturbing behind-the-scenes tales came to light.
01:59A former staff writer, Audrey Walkup, alleged on social media
02:02that she experienced sexual harassment from Schwann while working on the show.
02:06Sometimes when you look for an actor, you know exactly what you want them to play,
02:11and you look for the person who can fill those shoes.
02:14Her claims were later backed up by 18 female former cast and crew members
02:18who signed an open letter detailing additional allegations.
02:21According to these women, Schwann's behavior was, quote,
02:24an open secret and caused lasting emotional harm.
02:27Although he never officially addressed the allegations,
02:30Schwann was fired from his other show, The Royals.
02:33For me as a director, I probably do a little more teaching.
02:36Obviously, the veterans that have been around the block,
02:39my job is to get out of the way.
02:4248. Spotlight on a Murderer – Bullseye
02:45John Cooper didn't walk away from Bullseye a winner,
02:48but eventually his brief shot at glory was a major win for the British public.
02:52Unknown at the time, Cooper was already a two-time murderer,
02:56having killed a brother and sister in 1985
02:58and killing Peter and Gwenda Dixon a month after his game show strikeout.
03:02They're using me to clear old crimes.
03:05It shouldn't be allowed. It shouldn't be allowed.
03:08In 1998, Cooper was convicted of a string of robberies
03:11and served 10 years in prison.
03:13However, soon after his release, police investigated a murder cold case,
03:17which through advanced forensic science, DNA and his Bullseye footage,
03:21they were able to pin on him.
03:23Cooper was arrested soon after and convicted in 2011.
03:26This wasn't just a robbery for gain.
03:31It was an act of a psychopath.
03:3447. The Popsicle Twins – The Gong Show
03:37Here comes Have You Got A Nickel?
03:45Easily one of the most bizarre moments on The Gong Show,
03:48the so-called Popsicle Twins were a duo of young women
03:51whose act was titled Have You Got A Nickel?
03:54Their segment was initially only aired on the East Coast before being pulled,
03:57when it was noticed that the simple act of enjoying an ice lolly
04:00was a bit more suggestive than it first appeared.
04:03Score-wise, the act was a dud,
04:05with only J.P. Morgan picking up what the girls were laying down
04:08and TV's clinger Jamie Farr awarding it a mere two points.
04:11Jamie Farr. I don't think they give a lick.
04:1746. The Heartbreaking Story of The Original Laurie – That 70s Show
04:22Lisa Robin Kelly played Eric's selfish, spoiled and conniving big sister Laurie
04:27on That 70s Show during the first three seasons.
04:30Hello, Laurie. What are you doing here?
04:35I'm bored. There's nothing on TV.
04:37After that, the character was nowhere to be seen,
04:40presumably busy with beauty school.
04:42But in reality, Kelly was struggling with addiction.
04:45Though on the surface she was an actress on a successful sitcom,
04:48things were complicated in her private life.
04:50I see what's going on here. You're breaking up with me.
04:53No. For me to break up with you,
04:55there would have to be something between us to break.
04:57She briefly returned for season five,
04:59but was eventually replaced, with Christina Moore becoming Laurie.
05:03Unfortunately, Kelly's battle continued,
05:05and she was even arrested multiple times.
05:07In 2013, she tried to turn things around by checking into rehab,
05:12but she tragically passed away.
05:1445. Laurie Loughlin – Fuller House
05:17USA? Starring Danny Tanner.
05:19Well, really starring Rebecca Donaldson-Konsopolis.
05:23The college admission scandal involving actors like Laurie Loughlin
05:26was a hot-button conversation back in 2019.
05:29Loughlin paid the University of Southern California a sizable bribe
05:33in return for her two daughters getting guaranteed spots at the school.
05:36Loughlin and Giannulli accused of paying half a million dollars
05:40to the scheme's mastermind, Rick Singer,
05:42to get their daughters into USC as fake rowing recruits.
05:46She admitted guilt for her crime,
05:48ultimately spending two months in prison.
05:50Of course, this meant she wouldn't be returning to the reboot series Fuller House,
05:54in which she played the role of Aunt Becky.
05:56In the context of the show,
05:57the characters explained that Becky had to leave to take care of her mother.
06:01Oh, and if you do speak to her, find out who colors her hair.
06:04She looks terrific.
06:0744. Steven Seagal – Worst Host Ever – Saturday Night Live
06:12It's great to be here in New York,
06:14and it's great to be opening up Saturday Night Live.
06:17Most of you probably know me from my action-adventure films,
06:19Above the Law, Hard to Kill, Mark for Death, stuff like that.
06:23Both Lorne Michaels and SNL alums have been pretty vocal
06:26about what a terrible host Steven Seagal was.
06:29It wasn't because of his performance,
06:31or at least not only that,
06:32but rather his inability to work with the cast.
06:34I couldn't help overhearing what you guys were saying, you know.
06:37Oh, you were so quiet, you know.
06:39How long were you back there?
06:40We were just talking, you know.
06:41Yeah, you know, that's just, you know, true enough.
06:43In the book Live From New York,
06:45The Complete Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live,
06:48several SNL alums spoke about Seagal's difficult behavior.
06:51That makes me very nervous, you know.
06:53People who see my daughter should have plans.
06:56These include incidents where he pitched completely tasteless skits,
06:59including one where he'd play a therapist
07:01trying to have sex with Victoria Jackson
07:03instead of counseling her for her sexual assault.
07:06The actor has been permanently banned from the show.
07:09And perhaps the most interesting,
07:11a picture of you listening to the president of the United States
07:14on speakerphone as he reveals his part in the conspiracy.
07:19You'll never make this stick still.
07:21It won't hold up in court.
07:22Oh, I think it will.
07:38It's been an open secret
07:39that showrunner Lorne Michaels doesn't like a last minute change.
07:42Well, that was especially evident
07:44when Elvis Costello performed for SNL in 1977.
07:47Filling in for the Sex Pistols,
07:49Costello was brought on to perform his newest hit, Less Than Zero.
07:52The only problem was,
07:53Costello felt the song was irrelevant to American audiences
07:56as it was conceived as an attack
07:58against English politician Oswald Mosley.
08:01And so, a few bars into the song,
08:03Costello halted the performance,
08:05vaguely apologized to the audience,
08:07transitioned into radio radio.
08:13The English rock star would be banned from SNL for over a decade.
08:17I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen,
08:19but there's just really no reason to do this song here tonight.
08:25Even people who had never seen Lisa Vanderpump's spinoff series
08:28seem to know exactly what Scandal Ball was.
08:30The whole fallout was caught by a camera crew.
08:32And the scandal that rocked Vanderpump Rules
08:34was the talk of the reality TV sphere for months.
08:37I don't know how it happened, it just, it happened.
08:40We became really good friends.
08:42Like, I was seeking something that I wasn't getting here.
08:45And that's selfish, that's really selfish.
08:47Selfish is the nicest word you could use.
08:50The breakdown of Tom Sandoval and Ariana Maddox's relationship
08:53after Sandoval's affair with co-star Raquel Levis went public
08:56was a real-life soap opera for the social media age.
08:59Everyone had an opinion.
09:01The scandal has yet to go away.
09:03If Tom Sandoval were sitting in front of you right now,
09:07what would you say to him?
09:12I curse the day you were born.
09:14Levis filed lawsuits against both Maddox and Sandoval
09:16nearly a year after it all went down.
09:23Season four of RuPaul's Drag Race
09:25saw Willem Belay's mysterious disqualification.
09:27And while it may have set the standard for drag race controversy,
09:30there was something a lot darker to come.
09:33Season 12 was rocked by a scandal so damaging,
09:35the show had to be re-edited to all but remove one competitor.
09:43One of the season's finalists, Sherry Pye,
09:45was accused of inappropriate conduct by several men.
09:48Sherry Pye was subsequently edited down
09:50from the final cut of the episodes,
09:52which was a feat considering she made it to the top four.
09:55It cast a dark shadow over a season that didn't need one,
09:58as it was the first to air during the COVID-19 pandemic.
10:02I don't want people to think
10:04that I don't take full responsibility
10:07for the pain that I've caused these people,
10:09especially these amazing relationships
10:12that I wish that I could fix.
10:21Real estate investor Ryan Jenkins
10:23reportedly placed third on this dating show,
10:25but only three episodes aired.
10:27The day before VH1 pulled the plug,
10:29Jenkins was charged with the murder of his wife, Jasmine Fiore.
10:33The model's body was found in a suitcase,
10:35and she could only be identified
10:37by the serial number on her breast implants.
10:40Jenkins, however, never lived to stand trial.
10:43On August 23, 2009,
10:45he was found after having taken his own life in a Canadian hotel.
10:49A tragic end to an all-too-real and horrific story.
11:00All right, the three possible answers.
11:02Okay.
11:03A, Macintosh computer.
11:05I'm good at computers.
11:06Okay, B.
11:07I'm good at computers.
11:08Sony.
11:09Wah, man.
11:10Okay, okay.
11:11C.
11:12I have one of those.
11:13Post-it notes.
11:14All right, yeah, I do that every day.
11:15When couples appear on game shows,
11:16networks are hoping for some relationship hijinks.
11:18And that is exactly what this show got,
11:20in the worst way possible.
11:22Gable Coyier and Brittany Métis
11:24were well on their way to a million dollars
11:26until the which-came-first question came up.
11:28Which of these was sold in stores first?
11:32Talk it over.
11:34Wow, this is hard.
11:35This is really hard.
11:36Because post-it notes is like,
11:38I'm thinking post-it notes or Walkman,
11:40and I don't think computer.
11:42After bickering,
11:43Coyier went with the post-it.
11:44And the couple watched as $800,000 fell through a trap door
11:48because they got the right answer?
11:58Oh.
12:04Baby, it's okay.
12:05We still have more money.
12:08Post-it notes first sold in 1980.
12:11I didn't know it was a post-it note.
12:13Though the show's research team had checked with 3M,
12:15Post-it's original parent company,
12:17a slight technicality meant their information was just plain wrong.
12:20A mistake brought to light by viewers,
12:23launching an instant internet backlash against Fox,
12:26demanding the show pay up,
12:27and posting the facts about post-its online.
12:30Cue the social media outrage,
12:32the show offering to bring the couple back,
12:34and then, well, the show was canceled after its debut season.
12:37Number 38.
12:38Brooke Shields' ex wasn't a Drake Ramore fan.
12:41Friends.
12:42Hello.
12:43It's Erica.
12:45The stalker.
12:46Never mind, it's open.
12:47In season two of Friends,
12:49actress and model Brooke Shields played an unhinged fan named Erica
12:53who struggled to differentiate reality and fiction.
12:55Drake, you are so talented.
12:57Let me see those hands.
12:59Oh, these hands, these beautiful hands.
13:02Oh, I could just eat them.
13:04And apparently, she wasn't the only one.
13:06How can you be here and there?
13:08Because it's a television show.
13:10According to Shields' memoir,
13:12her then-boyfriend, former tennis sensation Andre Agassi,
13:15was particularly peeved by the dinner scene
13:17where Erica licks Joey's hand.
13:19She wrote that he exited the set
13:21and told her she'd, quote,
13:22made him look like a fool
13:24before heading to his Vegas abode
13:26and destroying his trophies.
13:28You told me I was the only one.
13:32The actress spent three years replacing them,
13:35believing his kids might like to have them one day.
13:37The pair tied the knot in 1997,
13:40but ultimately got divorced.
13:42Number 37.
13:43Mark Salling possession of inappropriate material.
13:46Glee.
13:47Question three.
13:48What was the capital of the Austria-Hungarian Empire?
13:51Wait, that's not in the song.
13:52The Fox musical series Glee
13:54had already completed its award-winning six-season run
13:57when one of its stars became embroiled in a controversy.
13:59Mark Salling,
14:00known for his role as football player Noah Puckerman,
14:03was arrested in 2015
14:05for possessing inappropriate material involving youth.
14:07Authorities would later discover
14:09over 50,000 of such explicit images
14:11on his computer and USB flash drives.
14:13This was particularly disturbing
14:15considering that Glee attracted a large audience of young fans
14:18given its high school setting.
14:20My dad's a deadbeat, but I don't roll that way.
14:22Weren't you fired for being a fast food friolator?
14:26I've got my pool cleaning business.
14:28We live in Ohio.
14:29Salling ultimately pleaded guilty to criminal charges
14:31and was set to spend four to seven years in jail.
14:34However, on January 30th, 2018,
14:37before he could face justice for his crimes,
14:39Salling decided to end his own life.
14:41This morning, an officer on patrol
14:43saw his car and found his body.
14:46We were not particularly looking for the vehicle,
14:48but they found the vehicle.
14:50Rosie O'Donnell vs. Elizabeth Hasselbeck
14:53The View
14:54The View can sometimes feel like a daytime soap opera.
14:57Of all the scandals this talk show has endured over the years,
15:00the feud between co-hosts Rosie O'Donnell and Elizabeth Hasselbeck
15:04was perhaps the most notorious.
15:06The tension between the two reached its boiling point in 2007
15:10when Hasselbeck referred to Iraq as, quote,
15:13America's enemy,
15:15prompting O'Donnell to argue that the Bush administration was truly at fault.
15:18You just said our enemies in Iraq.
15:20Did Iraq attack us?
15:22The liberal O'Donnell additionally criticized the media
15:25for their unflattering portrayal of her,
15:27claiming that they favored the conservative Hasselbeck.
15:30Because here's how it gets spun in the media.
15:32Rosie, big, fat, lesbian, loud Rosie,
15:35attacks innocent, pure, Christian Elizabeth.
15:38And I'm not doing it.
15:39Following their heated argument,
15:41O'Donnell left the show,
15:43while Hasselbeck exited five years later.
15:4635. Alec Baldwin's gay slur
15:48Up late with Alec Baldwin
15:50Although Alec Baldwin is one of the most outspoken liberals in showbiz,
15:54his behavior hasn't always lived up to his professed ideals.
15:57In 2013, the Oscar-nominated actor landed in hot water
16:01when he allegedly directed a gay slur at a paparazzo.
16:05In due course, Baldwin was suspended from his late-night talk show for two weeks.
16:10While Baldwin initially claimed he was misquoted,
16:13he ultimately described his outburst in an apology as
16:19However, the damage was done,
16:21as Up Late with Alec Baldwin was canceled after only five episodes.
16:25It probably didn't help that Baldwin also made homophobic remarks
16:29towards reporter George Stark on Twitter.
16:3234. Maury Povich's sexual harassment lawsuit
16:36Maury.
16:37Maury Povich is no stranger to controversy,
16:39as many critics have accused his tabloid talk show of exploiting serious issues.
16:43Speaking of exploitation,
16:45a $100 million sex harassment lawsuit was filed against Povich
16:49and other members of his staff in 2006.
16:52The allegations stemmed from Bianca Nardi,
16:55a former producer of The Maury Povich Show,
16:57who claimed that the host and his workers had forced her to watch pornography
17:01and attempt to seduce married men at bars while being filmed.
17:06She additionally accused executive producer Paul Fallhaber
17:09of making her wear revealing outfits
17:11and implied that Povich was having an affair with producer Donna Ingber.
17:15Despite this scandal,
17:17Povich remains on television and is still married to Connie Chung.
17:2133. Elmo actor allegations
17:24Sesame Street.
17:26They normally don't look at me.
17:27They just look at me as like somebody that's carrying around their favorite friend.
17:31And that's really what it, especially with kids,
17:33they keep their imagination.
17:35Sesame Street can't seem to catch a break when it comes to controversies.
17:38In one instance,
17:39a controversy arose over celebrity guest Katy Perry's dress during a music video,
17:43causing the segment to be removed.
17:45You're up and you're down.
17:47You're running around.
17:48You're fast and you're slow.
17:50You're smart and you're good.
17:52In another,
17:53their YouTube channel got hacked,
17:55resulting in all of their videos being replaced with adult content.
17:58All parents really want is to make sure that their children are safe watching these shows,
18:03so when dangerous claims are made, it can cause panic.
18:06Kevin Clash,
18:07the actor behind the popular Sesame Street character Elmo,
18:10had several extremely serious allegations of sexual impropriety leveled against him in 2012.
18:15These claims garnered a lot of media attention,
18:17and despite the accusations eventually being legally dismissed,
18:21Clash left the series.
18:23That's right, TV.
18:25We can watch The Farm Channel.
18:28Great dancing, TV.
18:35Comic Shane Gillis out at SNL,
18:38amid a firestorm of criticism.
18:40In hindsight,
18:41this was an embarrassment for both parties.
18:43On September 12th, 2019,
18:46comedian and podcaster Shane Gillis was announced as a cast member for SNL's 45th season.
18:51However, he was fired four days later,
18:53when clips revealed that the comedian had used racial and homophobic slurs on his podcast.
18:58For clarification,
19:00these were from 2018.
19:02Gillis tweeted an apology of sorts that same night,
19:05but the damage had been done.
19:07SNL didn't escape unscathed either,
19:09receiving criticism for not having done enough background research into their new hire.
19:14Gillis issued an initial statement saying,
19:16I'm happy to apologize to anyone who's actually offended by anything I said.
19:21I am trying to be the best comedian I can be,
19:24and sometimes that requires risks.
19:26Pablo S. Torre of ESPN's High Noon tweeting,
19:29It was only a risk because you and your hack friend are dumb enough to record it.
19:35John Belushi refused sketches written by women.
19:38Saturday Night Live.
19:42John Belushi is one of the most revered SNL cast members of the late 70s.
19:48But according to Jane Curtin,
19:50he was also unapologetically sexist behind the scenes.
19:53During her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show,
19:55she said that Belushi was one of several men who tried to sabotage the work of female writers.
20:01Curtin claimed that Belushi said that quote,
20:03women are just fundamentally not funny,
20:06and that quote,
20:07if a woman writer had written a piece for him,
20:09he'd half-ass it, quote,
20:11not reading it in his full voice.
20:13Never meet your heroes, kids.
20:15Number 30.
20:16Blackmail attempt against David Letterman.
20:18Late Show with David Letterman.
20:20After a long hard day,
20:22audiences would typically tune in to Late Show with David Letterman for a lighthearted laugh.
20:27The talk show took an uncomfortable turn in 2009, though,
20:30when Letterman confessed to having several sexual relationships with his female staffers.
20:35An extortionist had targeted Letterman,
20:37threatening to write a screenplay about the television host's affairs
20:41unless he coughed up $2 million.
20:44And he seems to, in this packet,
20:46there seems to be quite a lot of terrible stuff he knows about.
20:49Cooperating with the Manhattan District Attorney's office,
20:52Letterman wrote a fake check,
20:54and his blackmailer was arrested shortly after.
20:57While Letterman was met with some negative press following this shocking announcement,
21:01he eventually moved on from the scandal
21:03and hosted Late Show for six more years
21:06before retiring in 2015.
21:09Number 29.
21:10Oprah Winfrey vs. James Fry.
21:12The Oprah Winfrey Show.
21:19James Fry hit the big time when his memoir,
21:21A Million Little Pieces,
21:22was selected for Oprah's Book Club in 2005.
21:25Chronicling Fry's history with alcohol and drug abuse,
21:28the book became a New York Times bestseller and a cultural sensation.
21:32If I was going to write a book that was true,
21:34and I was going to write a book that was honest,
21:36then I was going to have to write about myself in very, very negative ways.
21:40Many readers felt cheated, however,
21:42when it was revealed that Fry had fabricated information in his supposed true account.
21:48This didn't reflect well on Oprah,
21:50who invited Fry onto her show to talk about the controversy.
21:53Oprah didn't let Fry off with a slap on the wrist,
21:55eventually getting him to confess that he had made up parts of the story.
21:59She also brought on publisher Nan Talese to set the record straight.
22:04Number 28.
22:05On-set misconduct.
22:06Arrested Development.
22:08Jeffrey Tambor was embroiled in sexual misconduct allegations
22:11from his other show, Transparent.
22:13And during a New York Times interview,
22:15the late Jessica Walter,
22:16who played Lucille Bluth on Arrested Development,
22:18shed light into his behavior on their show.
22:20She revealed that while he hadn't, quote,
22:22crossed that line,
22:24he had exhibited other aggressive behavior.
22:30Although he had apologized,
22:32it's clear that she had been shaken by the encounter.
22:35This wasn't helped by her male co-stars
22:37making light of the situation
22:39and attempting to justify Tambor's actions.
22:49That doesn't mean it's acceptable.
22:50Jason Bateman was especially keen to defend his on-screen dad
22:53and was met with plenty of backlash.
22:55He ultimately took to Twitter
22:57to issue an apology for his insensitive response.
23:00Number 27.
23:02Jeff Garlin leaves the family.
23:04The Goldbergs.
23:05Jeff Garlin played ill-tempered patriarch Murray Goldberg
23:08until his sudden departure from the sitcom in 2021.
23:11Several reports of unprofessional and disrespectful behavior on set
23:15led to a lengthy HR investigation
23:17and Garlin's eventual exit.
23:24But he blamed it on his, quote,
23:26silliness being misinterpreted
23:28and, quote,
23:29political correctness stifling comedians.
23:31His disdain for the sitcom was no secret
23:34and he reportedly addressed it during a stand-up set later on.
23:37His TV wife, Wendy McClendon-Covey,
23:40also implied in a tweet that he made his disinterest quite obvious.
23:44Still, since he left mid-season,
23:46the show persevered with a body double
23:48and editing magic to complete his scenes.
23:51However, that only made the elephant in the room
23:54even more glaringly obvious.
23:56Number 26.
23:57Joss Whedon workplace harassment allegations.
24:00Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.
24:10The first domino to fall in the Joss Whedon controversy
24:12came in July 2020
24:14when actor Ray Fisher accused Whedon
24:16of highly inappropriate behavior
24:17during filming of Justice League.
24:19Fisher's claims were corroborated by other actors
24:21who worked on the film,
24:22but it seems Whedon's alleged misconduct
24:25stretched back several years.
24:26Actress Charisma Carpenter,
24:28who appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer
24:30and its spinoff, Angel,
24:31alleged that Whedon had repeatedly harassed her
24:33and, quote,
24:34abused his power.
24:35We'll kill you if he gets a chance.
24:36You got that?
24:37Jeez, we got it.
24:38Circle. Angry.
24:39Kill, kill, kill.
24:40Go to church already.
24:41She was supported by some of her other co-stars,
24:43including Sarah Michelle Gellar herself.
24:45Since then,
24:46fans of the Buffyverse have admitted
24:48to seeing the shows in an entirely different light.
24:51Once symbols of female empowerment,
24:53now tainted by Hollywood's pervasive toxicity.
24:56Is this love?
24:57Because maybe I knew it doesn't look that different.
25:00What are you doing?
25:01Are you going like Stalker Boy on me now?
25:03Number 25.
25:04Conan O'Brien versus Jay Leno.
25:06The Tonight Show.
25:07The original war for late night
25:09can be traced back to 1992
25:11when Jay Leno became Johnny Carson's successor
25:14over David Letterman.
25:15This influenced Letterman to move from NBC to CBS,
25:19while Conan O'Brien was hired
25:21to fill the NBC late night time slot.
25:23History essentially repeated itself
25:25almost two decades later
25:27when Leno exited the Tonight Show
25:29so O'Brien could assume his hosting duties.
25:31Unfortunately, O'Brien's ratings struggled
25:34and the decision to give Leno a primetime talk show
25:37turned out to be a huge miscalculation.
25:40Since pushing back the schedule wasn't an option,
25:42O'Brien was given a $45 million payout
25:45while Leno returned to the Tonight Show in 2010.
25:49Number 24.
25:50Nora Dunn boycotts the show.
25:52Saturday Night Live.
25:54Andrew Dice Clay was one of the most famous
25:56and infamous comedians of the 80s.
25:58His Diceman persona and shock humor
26:00both sold out venues and incensed critics
26:03who slammed his act as sexist,
26:05homophobic and racist.
26:07When the comedian was scheduled to host
26:09Saturday Night Live on May 12, 1990,
26:11SNL's Nora Dunn decided to boycott the show.
26:14Welcome to the Pat Stevens Show,
26:16I'm Pat Stevens.
26:18Before we meet our guest today,
26:20let's answer some letters from our viewers.
26:26Dear Pat, you're a former model.
26:29Musical guest Sinead O'Connor followed suit.
26:32The show went on as scheduled
26:34with beefed up security measures,
26:36but not without an angry audience,
26:38some of whom had to be forcibly removed.
26:42Isn't that wonderful? I'm so proud.
26:45Number 23.
26:46Anjalee disqualified.
26:48America's next top model.
26:50It turns out that after shooting was wrapped,
26:52our production team and the network learned
26:54information from Anjalee
26:56that disqualifies her from the competition.
26:58Tyra Banks' modeling competition
27:00has had its fair share of unfortunate,
27:02offensive, and downright cruel moments.
27:04But its all-stars edition
27:06was clouded by controversy
27:08when competitor Anjalee Preston was disqualified
27:10for unspecified reasons in the finale episode.
27:13You know what, guys?
27:14We wish Anjalee the best in all her future endeavors.
27:17Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
27:19So are we ready to proceed with our final judging?
27:21The aired finale saw Lisa D'Amato be named the winner.
27:24Preston would later come forward with the truth.
27:27Banks had originally awarded Preston the title
27:29in the 17th season,
27:31but decided to take it away once producers learned
27:33Preston had worked as an escort.
27:35This only came out when the contestants sued Banks,
27:37the producers, and the network.
27:39So it was a stupid decision that I made,
27:42and then it came back to bite me
27:45with them decrowning me.
27:47Her lawsuit didn't go far,
27:49but it did add to contemporary reappraisals
27:51of the show's harsh treatment of its rotating cast
27:53of young, impressionable, aspiring models.
27:56Number 22.
27:57Toxic workplace allegations.
28:00I still want to be the one hour a day
28:02that people can go to escape and laugh.
28:04I want to continue to help all the people
28:06that we help every day,
28:07and I'm committed to making this the best season
28:09that we have ever had.
28:11For years, Ellen DeGeneres projected an image
28:13of kindness that resonated across her various endeavors,
28:16particularly her eponymous daytime talk show.
28:19That image was irreparably shattered in 2020
28:22when a group of former employees came forward,
28:24revealing a toxic work environment on set.
28:27DeGeneres, whose long-standing mantra had been
28:29to always, quote, be kind,
28:31took responsibility for the toxic culture on the show
28:33and apologized on air during the 18th season's premiere.
28:36The truth is, I am that person that you see on TV.
28:40I am also a lot of other things.
28:42Sometimes I get sad, I get mad, I get anxious,
28:46I get frustrated, I get impatient.
28:48But this gesture did little or nothing
28:50to repair the damage.
28:51Her once pristine reputation, and that of the series,
28:54had already suffered a major blow.
28:56Consequently, the following year,
28:57it was announced that the long-running daytime talk show
29:00would be coming to an end.
29:01You surrounded me with so much love and so much support.
29:05You nurtured me, and you found a way
29:07to make me shine brighter than I could do it by myself.
29:11Number 21, Kanye West has a meltdown.
29:14Saturday Night Live.
29:15This press for everybody that feels like they're not good enough.
29:19Everybody that said I'm sorry too many times.
29:22Given his penchant for tantrums and tirades,
29:25it should be no surprise to see Kanye on this list.
29:28In 2018, Kanye made headlines with a political rant
29:31during SNL's credits about President Donald Trump,
29:34the quote, liberal media,
29:36and his own presidential aspirations.
29:38But that wasn't his first meltdown on the show.
29:41In February 2016,
29:42he almost walked out moments before his performance
29:45because he didn't like the set.
29:47The notoriously egotistical rapper's meltdown got so bad
29:50that it took both Lorne Michaels and Kim Kardashian
29:53to calm him down.
29:54Then a short time later,
29:55audio clips of Kanye's tantrum surfaced,
29:57and needless to say, it was truly cringeworthy.
30:01Number 20,
30:02Alice and Mac's involvement with Nexium.
30:04Smallville.
30:05Clark Kent is a football player,
30:07and Lana Lang is a waitress.
30:10What's the matter with that?
30:11Nothing.
30:12I just want to click my heels and get back to reality.
30:15Although it premiered on the relatively new network The WB,
30:18Smallville quickly garnered a dedicated fan base
30:20among young adults,
30:21which thrust its main cast into the limelight.
30:23Among them was Allison Mack,
30:25who played Chloe Sullivan.
30:26I think I may know what's gotten into Clark.
30:29During her time on the show,
30:30Mack became involved with the self-improvement cult Nexium,
30:33rising to a prominent position within the organization.
30:36Leveraging her fame from Smallville,
30:38Mack recruited several women into Nexium,
30:40who were subsequently exploited in various forms.
30:43For her part,
30:44Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering charges
30:46and received a three-year prison sentence.
30:48Consequently, her association with Smallville
30:51has cast a shadow over the show,
30:52causing hesitation among many who may want to revisit it.
30:56I'm Allison, like I said earlier,
30:57and, uh, I'm still an actress.
30:59I wasn't until I came to this organization
31:01that I started to maybe discover
31:03that I was so much more than just an actress.
31:05Number 19.
31:06Stephen Collins admits to sexual misconduct.
31:09Seventh heaven.
31:10Come on, we had to trust her with Robbie sometime.
31:13No, we don't.
31:14I keep wanting to lock her up till she turns 21, but no.
31:18For over a decade,
31:19Stephen Collins portrayed Reverend Eric Camden,
31:21a Protestant minister on the TV series Seventh Heaven.
31:24Through the show,
31:25Collins built a reputation
31:26as a wholesome and morally upright individual,
31:29but in real life,
31:30it seems he was the stark opposite.
31:32In 2014, an audio tape leaked to the press
31:35in which Collins discussed having inappropriate contact
31:38with minors in the past.
31:40I don't know where they learn that stuff.
31:42I can't imagine.
31:43He later fully admitted to the claims
31:45in an interview with People magazine,
31:46noting that the incidents occurred in 1973,
31:491982, and 1994.
31:52These revelations directly contradicted
31:54the values espoused by the show,
31:56leaving many fans deeply troubled by the dissonance
31:59between Collins' onscreen persona
32:00and his real life actions.
32:02Tell us what happened.
32:04Well, in 1973,
32:06there were two occasions when I exposed myself.
32:14Number 18.
32:15Terrible reality.
32:16Kid Nation.
32:17Jimmy, come home.
32:19Jimmy, why do you want to go home?
32:21I'm really homesick.
32:23There are reasons
32:24why there are stringent laws and regulations
32:26regarding children working in the film
32:28and television industry.
32:29Sure, it might make for exciting programming,
32:31but the aim isn't to scar them for life.
32:34The cash prize reality show Kid Nation
32:36sent a group of 40 children of various ages
32:38into the desert,
32:39challenging them to create a functioning society.
32:42People are not going to eat off of this.
32:44I'm sick of this.
32:46I'm going to get every single person I see
32:48and I'm going to get them over here
32:49and they're going to do these dishes
32:51whether they like it or not.
32:52The crew was informed to be involved
32:54as little as possible,
32:56allowing these vulnerable kids
32:57to experience genuinely distressing events.
33:00The disturbing premise
33:01resembles William Golding's novel,
33:03Lord of the Flies,
33:04and audiences agreed.
33:05Unfortunately, the parents were apparently
33:07poorly informed regarding what was involved,
33:10and the backlash meant it only lasted one season.
33:13What is this?
33:14Like a Nazi regime?
33:16Why are you,
33:17why do you all fear so much?
33:18I love it.
33:19Hey, hey!
33:21Number 17.
33:22Phil Robertson's homophobic remarks.
33:24Duck Dynasty.
33:25Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson
33:27came under fire after a controversial GQ interview.
33:31He was quick to point out
33:32that he believes a relationship
33:33between same-sex people is sinful.
33:36His son Alan defended his views
33:38and went as far as comparing his dad
33:40to John the Baptist.
33:42He added that the public outcry
33:44hasn't changed who they are as a family.
33:46A&E decided to call off
33:48the initial suspension of Duck Dynasty
33:50and cited that the family apologized
33:53for the statements.
33:54Number 16.
33:55Chevy Chase.
33:56Community.
33:57Pierce!
33:59We'll see you when we see you.
34:06Apparently, it's well known around Hollywood
34:08that Chevy Chase is difficult to work with.
34:10The comedy legend also happens to be infamous
34:13for his outrageous behavior
34:14on film and television sets.
34:16Chase held the role of Pierce Hawthorne
34:18on Community up until the show's fifth season,
34:20in which Pierce was comically killed off.
34:22I guess I knew Pierce was part
34:24of a weird futuristic cult,
34:26but I wasn't prepared for a funeral
34:28with so much beeping.
34:30Chase was known to disagree
34:31with the show's creator, Dan Harmon,
34:33and his ideas and direction for the character.
34:35Cast and crew members expressed
34:36that he frequently used offensive
34:38and racist language
34:39with no remorse whatsoever.
34:41It's jealousy.
34:43I've said that to you before,
34:45but you can't really say that.
34:48Did you just say
34:49that writers writing anything negative
34:51is jealousy?
34:52Yeah, I did.
34:53Number 15.
34:54Louis C.K. sexual misconduct allegations.
34:57Well, sometimes I won't do it
34:59for like a week,
35:00but that's just so that when I do it again,
35:01it'll be way better.
35:02When stand-up comedians
35:03develop series based on their lives,
35:05they often infuse them
35:06with real-life events.
35:08That was especially true
35:09for Louis C.K.,
35:10who created, wrote, directed,
35:12and produced the FX series,
35:13Louis,
35:14in which he portrayed
35:15a fictionalized version of himself.
35:17In 2017,
35:18C.K. and the show
35:19were plunged into a scandal
35:20when several women accused him
35:22of sexually inappropriate behavior.
35:24This revelation prompted a reassessment
35:26of his previous stand-up material,
35:28some of which seemed
35:29to overlap with the allegations.
35:31Louis C.K. has a history,
35:32comedically,
35:33of frequently making jokes
35:35about masturbation
35:36and sexual assault,
35:37and he's normalizing
35:38sexually assaulting women
35:40and has a history of that.
35:41Louis was ultimately canceled
35:43after C.K. admitted
35:44that the accusations
35:45were indeed true.
35:46Due to the striking parallels
35:48between the show
35:49and the comedian,
35:50many have found it challenging
35:51to separate the art
35:52from the artist.
35:53There's things about me
35:54that if you knew them,
35:55you would be very disgusted.
35:57I'm not disgusted with you.
35:59I'm concerned for you, maybe.
36:02But you're a good person.
36:04Number 14.
36:05Jenny Jones' guest gets murdered.
36:07The Jenny Jones Show.
36:09Okay, you think about,
36:10you have fantasies about him?
36:11I've had a couple, yeah.
36:12The Jenny Jones Show
36:13aired for over a decade,
36:15but it's actually
36:16best remembered
36:17for an episode
36:18that never even aired.
36:19Entitled
36:20Same Sex Secret Crushes,
36:21the episode centered on a guest
36:23named Scott Amador,
36:24who, on the show,
36:26revealed his crush
36:27to an acquaintance
36:28named Jonathan Schmitz.
36:29Three days after
36:30the episode was taped,
36:31Schmitz reportedly found
36:33a suggestive note
36:34from Amador.
36:35Schmitz subsequently
36:36purchased a shotgun,
36:37shot Amador two times
36:39in the chest,
36:40and alerted the authorities
36:41of the crime
36:42he had just committed.
36:43Having a history
36:44of mental illness,
36:45Schmitz was convicted
36:46of second-degree murder.
36:47Meanwhile,
36:48the Jenny Jones Show
36:49faced a wrongful death lawsuit
36:51and was forced to pay
36:53Amador's family
36:54$25 million.
36:56Number 13.
36:57The John and Kate saga.
36:59John and Kate plus eight.
37:00It's not over yet,
37:02but I never had a clear picture
37:06of how it would end.
37:08This TLC series
37:09showing the daily life
37:10of a family
37:11with a set of twins
37:12and a set of sextuplets
37:13was an instant hit.
37:14But in 2009,
37:15viewers were shocked
37:16when parents John and Kate
37:17announced they were separating.
37:19Things only got messier from there,
37:21as he insisted that his kids
37:22not be on the largely John-less
37:24Kate plus eight.
37:26Okay, here's the deal.
37:28It's spring break.
37:29We have fun things planned.
37:32Okay, goodbye.
37:33He was also sued by the network
37:35for breach of contract
37:36after making other
37:37television appearances.
37:38In recent years,
37:39he's said that almost none of the kids
37:41are in contact with him anymore.
37:43This show may have ended years ago,
37:45but the drama truly
37:46never stops with this family.
37:48It's a different time for me
37:49in my life,
37:50only because one day
37:51they were in my house
37:52and then the next day they're not.
37:53And you've been doing that
37:54for a long time.
37:55Yes.
37:56And you're known for doing that.
37:57And then all of a sudden
37:58they're not there anymore
37:59and you're like,
38:00what am I going to do now?
38:01Number 12.
38:02The Dating Game Serial Killer.
38:04The Dating Game.
38:05Please welcome Rodney Alcala.
38:07Rod, welcome.
38:09Rodney Alcala appeared
38:10as Bachelor Number One
38:11on The Dating Game in 1978
38:13and managed to charm his way
38:15through the show to win the date.
38:17A decision she would have
38:18soon come to regret,
38:19Cheryl Bradshaw thankfully
38:21didn't end up going through with it.
38:22As it turns out,
38:23Alcala had a terrifying criminal history
38:25involving multiple murders,
38:27kidnapping and sexual assault
38:29with his victims
38:30ranging from adult women
38:31to young girls.
38:32Rodney Alcala was arrested
38:34on July 24th
38:36for the kidnap and murder
38:37of Robin Samsoe.
38:39But the struggle to prove it
38:40had only just begun.
38:42Moving forward,
38:43the importance of doing
38:44extensive background checks
38:46on contestants cannot be overstated.
38:48They could be cheaters.
38:49They could be frauds.
38:51They could be Rodney Alcala.
38:53Number 11.
38:54Billy Bush Fired From Today.
38:56Today.
38:57Just when it seemed like
38:58the 2016 US presidential election
39:00couldn't get any crazier,
39:02a 2005 hot mic recording surfaced
39:05in which Republican candidate
39:06Donald Trump
39:07shared an offensive
39:08and potentially incriminating conversation
39:10with Access Hollywood host
39:12Billy Bush.
39:14On a bus ride,
39:15Trump not only admitted
39:16that he tried and failed
39:17to seduce Nancy O'Dell,
39:19but also made some vulgar statements
39:21while discussing actress
39:22Ariane Zucker.
39:23The scandal took a drastic toll
39:25on Bush's public image,
39:27resulting in his termination
39:28from The Today Show.
39:30Meanwhile,
39:31Trump continued his campaign
39:32and was elected president
39:34almost a month later.
39:45Number 10.
39:46Josh Duggar's Crimes.
39:4719 Kids and Counting
39:49and Counting On.
39:55The biggest TLC scandal
39:56to date came about
39:57when the eldest Duggar child,
39:58Josh,
39:59was accused of mistreating girls,
40:00including some of his sisters,
40:02when he was a teenager.
40:03Naturally,
40:04this prompted the network
40:05to axe 19 Kids and Counting
40:07from its lineup.
40:08And the distressing story
40:09doesn't end there,
40:10as many more allegations
40:11have occurred
40:12since the show was called off.
40:13Duggar has also been accused
40:15of cheating on his wife,
40:16assaulting a woman,
40:17and possessing highly inappropriate
40:19materials featuring children.
40:21In late May of 2022,
40:23Duggar was sentenced
40:24to 12 and 7 months in prison
40:26for the latter crime,
40:27finally answering
40:28for his horrific actions.
40:29As you can imagine,
40:30Counting On was also canceled.
40:41Number 9.
40:42Jussie Smollett's Empire.
40:56It all began
40:57on January 22nd of 2019
40:59when Empire actor
41:00Jussie Smollett
41:01received a threatening letter
41:02with a suspicious powder
41:03later confirmed
41:04to be Tylenol.
41:05The following week,
41:06Smollett reported
41:07that he had been attacked
41:08by two men
41:09who doused a chemical over him
41:10and called him
41:11derogatory slurs.
41:15Investigators immediately
41:16got to work
41:17on what seemed
41:18to be a hate crime.
41:19But police eventually began
41:20to find loopholes
41:21in Smollett's story.
41:22It was later revealed
41:23that there were
41:25that the actor
41:26had staged the incident
41:27with two men
41:28who had appeared as extras
41:29on the musical drama series.
41:30And it didn't take too long
41:31for producers
41:32to kick him off the roster.
41:42Number 8.
41:43Matt Lauer's
41:44sexual misconduct allegations.
41:46Today,
41:47in rapid succession
41:48from Bill O'Reilly
41:49to Charlie Rose,
41:50media personalities
41:51were publicly accused
41:52of sexual harassment
41:53in 2017.
42:07However,
42:08the sexual misconduct
42:09allegations
42:10directed at Matt Lauer
42:11shocked audiences
42:12perhaps the most.
42:13A staple of
42:14the Today show
42:15for almost 20 years,
42:16Lauer was abruptly fired
42:18after a female
42:19NBC employee
42:20accused him
42:21of sexually harassing her
42:22three years earlier.
42:31It became clear
42:32that this was unlikely
42:33to be an isolated incident
42:35as more women
42:36came forward.
42:37In one instance,
42:38Lauer was accused
42:39of summoning
42:40a former employee
42:41to his office
42:42and sexually assaulting her
42:43behind a locked door.
42:45The fact that Lauer
42:46was such a beloved host
42:47only made this
42:48more disturbing.
42:52When you look,
42:53you realize
42:54all the things
42:55we get to do
42:56and it has flown by.
43:09The Netflix series
43:10The Ranch
43:11starred Ashton Kutcher
43:12and Danny Masterson
43:13who played brothers
43:14operating a cattle ranch.
43:15However,
43:16leading into
43:17the sixth part of the show,
43:18Masterson was cut
43:19from the cast.
43:20This is due to
43:21a series of assault charges
43:22that were pressed
43:23against the actor
43:24which began in 2017.
43:31The decision
43:32to eliminate Masterson
43:33from the cast
43:34isn't surprising
43:35considering the severity
43:36of the allegations made
43:37which we'll let you
43:38investigate
43:39at your own discretion.
43:40He was also
43:41not asked to return
43:42for that 90s show
43:43as his character
43:44Stephen Hyde
43:45for these same reasons.
43:52A long fall
43:53from grace
43:54for the ex-sitcom star.
43:58You have the most
43:59difficult job on earth.
44:00It would take a toll
44:01on any marriage
44:03which is why
44:04I'm urging you
44:05to reconsider
44:06your decision
44:07on the bridge.
44:08It was the scandal
44:09that shook the TV world.
44:10Amidst the
44:11Me Too Hollywood wave,
44:12actor Anthony Rapp
44:13came forward
44:14with allegations
44:15that Kevin Spacey
44:16had assaulted him
44:17in 1986.
44:18In response,
44:19Spacey put out a statement
44:20saying he did not
44:21remember the incident
44:22and weirdly decided
44:23to use the opportunity
44:24to come out as gay.
44:25This decision
44:26was seen by many
44:27as an attempt
44:28to deflect
44:29from Rapp's allegations
44:30and garner sympathy
44:31for himself.
44:32The misconduct
44:33halted production
44:34on the show's
44:35sixth and final season
44:36and led to massive rewrites.
44:37Spacey was fired
44:38from the production
44:39and his character
44:40Frank Underwood
44:41was killed off.
44:47Any fan
44:48who only became
44:49acquainted with
44:50Jerry and the Gang
44:51through reruns
44:52might not even know
44:53that this season nine
44:54episode exists.
44:55It depicts the group
44:56getting caught in traffic
44:57because of the
44:58Puerto Rican Day Parade
44:59celebrations.
45:07And there was
45:08more than one
45:09problematic moment.
45:10The scene that
45:11understandably prompted
45:12the most outcry
45:13involved Kramer
45:14stomping on the
45:15Puerto Rican flag
45:16after accidentally
45:17setting it on fire.
45:20I'm into this
45:21Puerto Rican thing.
45:22The sight,
45:23the sound,
45:24the hot, spicy
45:25flavor of it all.
45:26It's caliente, Jerry!
45:27The episode
45:28was heavily blasted
45:29for its harmful
45:30portrayal of Puerto Ricans
45:31and disrespectful
45:32flag use.
45:33Still,
45:34some of the actors
45:35and crew members
45:36refuted claims
45:37that it was offensive.
45:38Ultimately, NBC
45:39issued an apology
45:40and the episode
45:41was removed
45:42from circulation
45:43for a few years.
45:45Roseanne gets ousted
45:46from the Conners.
45:47Roseanne.
45:48Dan!
45:49What?
45:50This thing's all
45:51backed up again.
45:52I'll plunge it
45:53right after breakfast.
45:54Fans of the sitcom's
45:55original run were excited
45:56to learn of its return
45:57in 2018.
45:58However,
45:59the bliss was short-lived,
46:00with the titular star
46:01sending out a racist tweet
46:02insulting Obama
46:03White House aide
46:04Valerie Jarrett.
46:05Following the backlash,
46:06she apologized
46:07and blamed the event
46:08on her medication.
46:09But the damage
46:10was already done.
46:11The show was canceled,
46:12she was fired,
46:13and several networks
46:14even pulled reruns.
46:15Dad,
46:16will you tell her
46:17how stupid she's being?
46:18It's never worked out
46:19for me.
46:20Many of her co-stars
46:21tried to distance themselves
46:22from the controversy
46:23and moved on
46:24without her,
46:25creating the Conners
46:26spinoff.
46:27Rosie needed painkillers.
46:30I had some,
46:31so I gave them to her.
46:33So?
46:34About a year later,
46:35Barr attempted
46:36to blame the fallout
46:37on her TV daughter
46:38Sarah Gilbert,
46:39who was openly critical
46:40of her efforts.
46:41We all remember
46:42Charlie Sheen's
46:43infamous 2011 interview.
46:44I have one speed,
46:45I have one gear.
46:46Go!
46:47How do you survive that?
46:48Because I'm me.
46:49Well,
46:50it was around that same time
46:51that he was let go
46:52from Two and a Half Men.
46:53He was one of America's
46:54highest-paid television actors,
46:55starring in CBS's
46:56most popular sitcom.
46:57Let's just keep this
46:58to ourselves.
46:59Our little secret.
47:00But after a number of scandals,
47:01Ben Affleck was fired
47:02from the show
47:03and was forced
47:04to stay on the show
47:05for a year.
47:06He was fired
47:07from the show
47:08because he was
47:09But after a number
47:10of scandals,
47:11battle with addiction
47:12and a publicized
47:13falling out
47:14with Warner Brothers
47:15and co-creator Chuck Lorre,
47:16he was fired.
47:17Charlie Harper
47:18was killed off
47:19and replaced
47:20by Walden Schmidt,
47:21played by Ashton Kutcher.
47:22I can't find any record
47:23of your brother's death.
47:24You sure?
47:25Newspapers?
47:26Obituaries?
47:27According to
47:28The Last Vanity Card,
47:29Sheen could have returned
47:30for the series finale,
47:31but he and Lorre
47:32had very different ideas
47:33of how that might play out,
47:35so it never happened.
47:38Number 2
47:39Bill Cosby's
47:40sexual assault cases
47:41The Cosby Show
47:42Alright,
47:43now this is something
47:44I will cherish
47:45the rest of my life.
47:46Now all of you,
47:47get out!
47:48Millions around the world
47:49came to know
47:50and love Bill Cosby
47:51through his sitcom
47:52The Cosby Show.
47:53The series,
47:54which was celebrated
47:55as groundbreaking
47:56for its positive portrayal
47:57of an affluent
47:58African-American family,
47:59became deeply intertwined
48:00with Cosby's public persona.
48:01Pop pop!
48:02Weasel!
48:03Bye!
48:04Weasel!
48:06However,
48:07beginning in late 2014,
48:09shocking revelations emerged
48:10that Cosby had sexually assaulted
48:12dozens of women
48:13over several decades.
48:15As a result,
48:16the image he had built
48:17as a beloved father figure
48:18and role model shattered,
48:19and The Cosby Show
48:20became tainted by association.
48:22In light of the allegations,
48:23the series was removed
48:24from syndication
48:25in many countries.
48:26Cosby may have evaded justice
48:28due to a legal technicality,
48:30but his crimes
48:31have forever altered
48:32the way his show is perceived
48:33and remembered.
48:35We are here to announce today
48:37charges that have just been filed
48:39against William Henry Cosby.

48:58Number 1.
48:59Dan Schneider's Legacy
49:00Various
49:01I think more broadly,
49:02when you have
49:03a cult of personality
49:04in any work environment,
49:06inevitably,
49:07it's ripe for toxicity.
49:09In 2018,
49:11Nickelodeon parted ways
49:12with one of their most
49:13prolific creators
49:14of all time.
49:15But despite his resume,
49:17odds are that Dan Schneider
49:18will only be remembered
49:19for the mountain
49:20of allegations
49:21levied against him.
49:22Many insiders
49:23have come out
49:24accusing Schneider
49:25of repeated sexual harassment.
49:26For decades,
49:27Dan seemed like
49:28he was untouchable.
49:29But around 2017,
49:31the internet videos
49:32around Dan
49:33really started
49:34gaining momentum.
49:35This included
49:36former iCarly star
49:37Jeanette McCurdy,
49:38who spent a section
49:39of her memoir
49:40detailing her harrowing experiences
49:41with someone
49:42only referred to
49:43as the creator.
49:44Given the extent
49:45of the charges,
49:46many fans have also
49:47pointed to scenes
49:48in Schneider's work
49:49that have not aged well
49:50at all.
49:51As a result,
49:52it's unlikely
49:53Schneider or his legacy
49:54will ever recover.
49:55How safe can any kids
49:56be in that environment
49:58if that's how
49:59the adult women
50:00are being treated
50:01behind the scenes?

50:03you the most?
