00:00Hangzhou, China, is famous for having many inhabitants comparable to a small town,
00:05around 20,000 people. Located in Xianjiang Century City, Hangzhou's central business district,
00:12the S-shaped Regent International was originally designed as a luxury hotel,
00:16but was subsequently converted into a colossal apartment building,
00:20with the rooms turned into thousands of high-end residential apartments.
00:24Offering more than 260,000 square meters of space,
00:28the Regent International apartment building in Hangzhou is one of the largest of its kind in
00:33China. The number of inhabitants has been a matter of debate on Chinese social media,
00:38but judging by the number of rooms and the number of floors, it is estimated that between 11,000
00:44and 22,000 people live in the building at any given time. The S-shaped Regent International
00:50now accommodates for up to 30,000 residents, although its current inhabitants stand at
00:55around the 20,000 mark. Nonetheless, the remarkable congregation of locals crammed
01:01under one roof makes it one of the most densely populated areas in the world.
01:06But the impressive building, which stands at 675 foot tall, is more than just a place to call home.
01:13The impressive building is 206m tall and has 36 to 39 floors, depending on what side of it you're
01:20on, and as any self-contained community, features a variety of amenities and businesses,
01:25like a giant food court for its tens of thousands of inhabitants, as well as swimming pools,
01:30barber shops, nail salons, medium-sized supermarkets, and internet cafes. You can
01:36find anything you need in the building, so technically you don't even need to go outside.
01:40Also located across its 36 to 39 floors, depending on what side of it you're on,
01:46are a variety of amenities and businesses, just like any normal town would have.
01:50With everything on your doorstep, there aren't many reasons for people to leave the building.
01:55Likely, some people never stop...
