00:00Warny is a dinosaur from our imagination, and when we saw he's what we call a dinosaur sensation.
00:18Warny's friends are big and small, they come from lots of places. After school they meet to play and sing with happy faces.
00:31Warny shows us lots of things, like how to play pretend, ABC's and 1-2-3's and how to be a friend.
00:39Warny comes to play with us whenever we may need him. Warny can be your friend too if you just make believe him.
00:56I don't think he's coming out. I don't either. Sure he is.
01:00Hey Curtis, are you coming out? No. Why not?
01:05You'll laugh at me. No I won't. Well yes you will. Come on Curtis, well really try not to laugh. Well, okay.
01:21So, what do you think?
01:24Hi Barney. Hi Barney. Oh, I sure am. Lucky for me there's a tree over there. But I don't remember a tree over here before.
01:51Hi Barney. Hi Curtis. Oh Curtis, what's wrong? Everybody is laughing at me. We didn't mean to. Well Curtis, maybe you'll feel a little bit better if we give you something to laugh about too.
02:09When I feel happy, I can smile, the biggest smile I know. Then you can see my happies show.
02:20Ha ha ha, hee hee hee, come on get silly and laugh with me. Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle ho ho ho. When you're feeling happy, let it show.
02:33I've got the sillies and when you get them, you'll be silly like me. I can't stop laughing as you can see.
02:42Ha ha ha, hee hee hee, come on get silly and laugh with me. Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle ho ho ho. When you get the sillies, let it show.
02:56I've got a tickle, it makes me wiggle, it makes me jiggle too. Can't hold it in, I just gotta giggle.
03:07Ha ha ha, hee hee hee, come on get silly and laugh with me. Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle ho ho ho. When you're feeling happy, let it show.
03:21Ha ha ha, hee hee hee, come on get silly and laugh with me. Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle ho ho. When you're feeling happy, let it show.
03:29Ha ha ha, hee hee hee, come on get silly and laugh with me. Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle ho ho. When you're feeling happy, let it show.
03:39I was supposed to say some stuff about trees. Oh, could you do it for us right now? Oh yeah, please do it.
03:46Well, okay. Behold the tree, it stands so tall. A home to some, a gift to all. It gives us food, it gives us wood.
04:00It brings beauty to a neighborhood. With limbs outstretched in majesty and crown of green, behold the tree.
04:11Ha ha ha, now that's the funniest thing I ever saw, the funniest thing. Don't listen to Scooter, you did, um, just fine.
04:24Oh, and Curtis, you should be proud to play the part of a tree. I should? Yes, trees are wonderful things and they help us in lots of different ways.
04:34They do? Sure, just follow me and I'll show you.
04:43Uh, I think I'll change clothes first. Yeah. Okay, Curtis.
04:48Oh, here he is. Feeling better? Definitely. Oh, good. Then let's all take a look at one of nature's most wonderful creations, the tree.
05:06Uh, Barney, I don't think that's a tree. Oh, sure it is. You see, it's a... Oh, no, you're right. I must have been fooled by the bark.
05:20Oh, Barney. Let's try it again. Here we go. That's more like it. This is a tree, and who knows what we call these things at the bottom?
05:33I do. Those are roots. The tree uses its roots to hold it straight and tall, and to drink water from the ground.
05:43How does the water get in the ground? Well, Kim, the water comes from the...
05:48Rain! Oh, gee, and it looks so clear this morning. Okay, that's enough rain. Okay. I think I need a little help here.
06:08Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day. Barney's friends all want to play. Rain, rain, go away.
06:18I think it's working. Let's try again. Rain, rain, go away. Come again another day. Barney's friends all want to play. Rain, rain, go away.
06:31That's better. The rain is gone, and the sun is shining, which is a very good thing for trees. It is?
06:43Because after the roots soak up the water, it goes all the way up through the trunk of the tree and up here to the leaves, and then something very special happens.
06:55The leaves take the sunshine and the water and turn them into food for the tree. That's called photosynthesis.
07:07Photosynthesis? Photosynthesis. And for leaves, it means having fun in the sun.
07:17Oh, I just love the sunshine. Is everybody ready for the sunshine? Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me.
07:33Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, hiding behind that tree, these little children are asking you, please come out so we can play with you.
07:46Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me. Are all of you nice green leaves enjoying the sunshine? Yeah!
07:59Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me.
08:06Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, hiding behind that tree, these little children are asking you, please come out so we can play with you.
08:20Oh, Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on, please shine down on, please shine down on me.
08:30Oh, my goodness. That was a wonderful song, children. You know, a sunny song like that gives me a sunny feeling inside. It does. It does.
08:46We were just learning how green leaves make food for trees. Fascinating. I believe that's called photosynthesis.
08:56Photosynthesis. Well, that's easy for you to say. But Barney, what happens to the trees when the leaves aren't green anymore?
09:08You mean when the leaves change color, like this?
09:20Don't you just love it when it colors? Oh, boy. And when the chilly winds begin to blow?
09:27I felt that breeze right through my feathers.
09:31When the leaves change color and fall off, the tree has already saved up lots of food for the winter.
09:39So it just sort of sleeps for a while, then grows nice new leaves in the spring.
09:45And all those beautiful colors. Oh, I just love fall. I do.
09:51Me too, you said, huh?
09:53Yeah, take it.
09:57It's the days getting cooler and the frosty nights and the pumpkins big and small.
10:05It's the season after summer. It's before the winter. It's the fall. It's the fall. It's the fall.
10:14It's before the winter. It's the fall. It's the fall. It's the fall.
10:20I feel the leaves a-crackling and crunching underneath both of my feet.
10:27I'd like to jump in a great big pile of these, cause I think that would be neat.
10:35It's the red, orange, and yellow of the beautiful trees, both the short ones and the tall.
10:43It's the season after summer. It's before the winter. It's the fall. It's the fall. It's the fall.
10:50I feel the leaves a-crackling and crunching underneath both of my feet.
10:58I'd like to jump in a great big pile of these, cause I think that would be neat.
11:06It's the season after summer. It's before the winter. It's the fall. It's the fall. It's the fall.
11:14It's the fall. It's the fall. It's the fall.
11:22Huh? It's a fall? When did the fall get here? Hey, I need to go get some nuts for the winter.
11:28Yeah, yeah, and some fuzzy earmuffs too.
11:33Barney, I know something good about a tree.
11:37What's that, Steven?
11:39Well, this tree holds up our treehouse.
11:42Oh, you're right. Without it, our treehouse would be just a househouse.
11:49So, are you feeling better about being a tree in the school play?
11:53A little better, but why do I have to be such a silly looking tree?
11:57Oh, I don't think you look silly, Curtis.
12:00But if you decide to be a different kind of tree, there are lots and lots to choose from.
12:06Would you like to see?
12:07I sure would.
12:08Yeah, that'd be great. That'd be fun.
12:10Then maybe we should all take a look at...
12:16The Adventure Tree! Oh my goodness!
12:21Trees grow almost everywhere in the world, and there are thousands of different kinds.
12:27Some trees can live to be hundreds or even thousands of years old.
12:32That's really, really old.
12:35I've never seen a tree that big.
12:38That's a tree called a giant sequoia, and it can grow as tall as a skyscraper.
12:46What kind of tree is that, Barney?
12:48That's a coconut palm.
12:51Coconut palms grow in places where it's very warm.
12:57And trees can also grow in places where it's cold and snowy, like these pine trees.
13:04Some trees give us good things to eat.
13:07Wherever you find trees, one thing is for sure.
13:11They're nature's good neighbors for all of us.
13:16That was great. Thanks, Barney.
13:19Barney, why did you say that trees are good neighbors?
13:22There are lots of reasons.
13:25Did you know that trees help make the fresh air that we breathe?
13:34And we get lots of other things from trees, too.
13:37Things like nuts for the winter.
13:41Hey, how come it isn't fall anymore?
13:44Well, things change very quickly around here, Scooter.
13:48So maybe you need to change.
13:52Out of your earmuffs and scarf.
13:55Yeah, okay.
13:59Scooter's right, though.
14:01We get nuts from trees and lots of different fruits,
14:04and so many other things, I hardly know where to begin.
14:10Way up in the branches of a tree.
14:13Way up in the air.
14:16If you're looking, you might see
14:19the food that grows up there in a tree.
14:24Apples, peaches, plums, and pears.
14:27Limes and lemons grow up there.
14:30Clumps of cherries grow to be the fruits that come from a tree.
14:37Way up in the branches of a tree.
14:40Way up in the air.
14:43If you're looking, you might see
14:46the food that grows up there in a tree.
14:51Walnuts, almonds, chestnuts, too.
14:54We can eat like the squirrels all do.
14:58On those branches I can see
15:01a tasty snack for me.
15:05Way up in the branches of a tree.
15:08Way up in the air.
15:11If you're looking, you might see
15:14the food that grows up there in a tree.
15:19A great big orange that you can peel.
15:22Maple syrup for a pancake meal.
15:25Isn't it wonderful?
15:27There can be food that comes from a tree.
15:32Way up in the branches of a tree.
15:35Way up in the air.
15:38If you're looking, you might see
15:41the food that grows up there in a tree.
15:45If you're looking, you might see
15:47the food that grows up there in a tree.
15:53No, I never knew there were so many things that came from trees.
15:58And food isn't the only thing we get from trees.
16:01We also get paper and wood for building things.
16:05Things like our treehouse?
16:07Right.
16:08And the people who cut down trees to make the wood
16:11are called lumberjacks.
16:13Of course, you all know the story of Paul Bunyan.
16:16Paul who?
16:18Paul Bunyan.
16:20The greatest lumberjack of them all.
16:23He's only make-believe,
16:25but the stories about him are lots of fun.
16:31More than a hundred years ago,
16:34Paul Bunyan walked this land.
16:37A giant taller than the trees.
16:39An axe held in his hand.
16:42He was the greatest lumberjack who ever chopped down trees.
16:48He made rivers where he dragged his axe.
16:51Blew clouds off when he sneezed.
16:54Joe, Joe, Joe.
16:57He knew that people everywhere could use a lot of wood.
17:01So Paul cut down the toughest trees no other logger could.
17:07He chopped them left.
17:09He chopped them right.
17:13He even cut through rocks.
17:16And the fallen trees were dragged away
17:19by Babe, his pet blue ox.
17:23And every time he felled a tree by giving it a whack,
17:28Paul Bunyan planted one new seed
17:31so a new tree would grow back.
17:34All this was many years ago.
17:37The gentle giant's gone.
17:39But as long as there are trees,
17:42his legend will live on.
17:45The end.
17:50Thank you. Thank you very much.
17:52It would be so cool to be a giant like Paul Bunyan.
17:55Yeah, I'd like to grow up to be that big.
17:59Well, I don't know if any of you will grow that big,
18:02but even Paul Bunyan had to grow the same way that you do,
18:06one day at a time.
18:10Growing, we do it every day.
18:14We're growing when we're sleeping
18:16and even when we play.
18:18And as we grow a little older,
18:20we can do more things because I'm growing
18:23and so are you.
18:25Each day we grow a little taller,
18:28a little bigger, not smaller,
18:30and we grow a little friendlier too.
18:33We try to be a little nicer as we grow each day
18:37because I'm growing and so are you.
18:41Because I'm growing and so are you.
18:45Oh!
18:49I think it's neat to learn about trees.
18:52Oh, it's true. There's a lot to know.
18:55There are so many shapes and sizes.
18:57And all the great things that come from trees.
19:00I guess that's just about everything there is to know about trees.
19:03Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Hold on, hold on.
19:06You haven't mentioned one of the very best things about trees yet.
19:10We haven't?
19:11Why, no, you haven't.
19:13I do believe that you've forgotten that trees can also be homes.
19:18Mm-hmm.
19:19Homes for birds and homes for insects and...
19:22And for cute, cuddly, snuggly, little, fuzzy, furry forest animals.
19:26Like me.
19:29Scooter and Mazetta are right.
19:31Lots of different creatures can live in trees.
19:34Especially in a great big tree like this one.
19:39There was a home.
19:41There was a home.
19:42In the middle of the ground.
19:44In the middle of the ground.
19:45The prettiest home.
19:47The prettiest home.
19:48That you ever did see.
19:49That you ever did see.
19:51And the green grass grows all around, all around.
19:54And the green grass grows all around.
19:56And in this home.
19:58And in this home.
19:59There was a tree.
20:00There was a tree.
20:02The prettiest tree.
20:03The prettiest tree.
20:05That you ever did see.
20:06That you ever did see.
20:08Well, the tree in the hole and the hole in the ground.
20:11And the green grass grows all around, all around.
20:14And the green grass grows all around.
20:16And on this tree.
20:18And on this tree.
20:19There was a branch.
20:20There was a branch.
20:22The prettiest branch.
20:23The prettiest branch.
20:24That you ever did see.
20:26That you ever did see.
20:28Well, the branch on the tree and the tree in the hole and the hole in the ground.
20:32And the green grass grows all around, all around.
20:35And the green grass grows all around.
20:37And on this branch.
20:39And on this branch.
20:40There was a bird.
20:42There was a bird.
20:43The prettiest bird.
20:45The prettiest bird.
20:46That you ever did see.
20:47That you ever did see.
20:49Well, the bird on the branch and the branch on the tree.
20:52And the tree in the hole and the hole in the ground.
20:55And the green grass grows all around, all around.
20:58And the green grass grows all around.
21:00And the green grass grows all around, all around.
21:03And the green grass grows all around.
21:06Now I really feel like we know all about trees.
21:09Yeah, me too.
21:11Well, there is one more thing that would be good for you to know.
21:15What's that, Barney?
21:17Well, even though we use trees for lots of things and we can always plant more,
21:22it's still a good idea to take care of trees.
21:25Why, Barney?
21:26Well, they help give us clean air and homes for animals.
21:32We should try to save all the trees we can.
21:35How can we do that?
21:36Do we need to go to a forest or something?
21:38Well, you can help save trees right in your home or right here in the classroom.
21:44Do you know how?
21:46By recycling paper?
21:48Right.
21:49If we recycle paper, it gets used again.
21:53Since paper comes from trees, that helps save trees and helps the Earth.
21:59So come on, everybody.
22:01Will you help protect the Earth and keep it clean?
22:04Yes, we will.
22:05Will you help protect the Earth and keep it green?
22:08Yes, we will.
22:09Then the time has come to start.
22:11Let's begin to do our part.
22:13How will all protect the Earth and keep it green?
22:16Yes, we will.
22:18There are lots of different things that we can do.
22:21Yes, there are.
22:22There are lots of different things that we can do.
22:25Yes, there are.
22:26If we really, truly care, then we all will do our share.
22:30There are lots of different things that we can do.
22:33Yes, there are.
22:36Then the time has come to start.
22:39Let's begin to do our part.
22:41How will all protect the Earth and keep it green?
22:44Yes, we will.
22:45Then the time has come to start.
22:47Let's begin to do our part.
22:52How will all protect the Earth and keep it green?
22:55Yes, we will.
23:03Ready or not, here I come.
23:05Oh, boy.
23:08Well, what do you think now?
23:11Oh, I think you look tremendous.
23:15Thanks, Barney.
23:16Now that I know more about trees, I'd like to try my poem for the school play again.
23:20Oh, we'd love to hear it.
23:22Wouldn't we, everybody?
23:23Oh, yeah.
23:24Trees would be great.
23:25Behold the tree.
23:28It stands so tall.
23:30A home to some, a gift to all.
23:34It gives us food.
23:36It gives us wood.
23:38Brings beauty to a neighborhood.
23:41With limbs outstretched in majesty and crown of green,
23:47behold the tree.
23:52Yay!
23:54Well done.
23:55That was stupendous.
23:58You liked it, really?
24:00Yeah, we liked it.
24:02You were great, Curtis.
24:03You're going to be the star of the show.
24:05Oh, right.
24:06You know, it's a lot easier to say nice things about trees when you really love them.
24:11Just like it's always easy to be nice to the people you love.
24:17I love you.
24:20You love me.
24:22We're a happy family.
24:27With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you.
24:33Won't you say you love me too?
24:43I love you.
24:45You love me.
24:47We're best friends like friends should be.
24:51With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you.
24:56Won't you say you love me too?
25:04Hey, Curtis.
25:07Is it too late for us to get into the school play?
25:10I don't think so.
25:11Well, come on.
25:13I'd like to be a tree, too.
25:15I want to do it, too.
25:16Me, too.
25:17We could be a forest or something.
25:18That would be great.
25:28Hey, everybody.
25:30It's time for Barney Says.
25:38Hello again to all my friends.
25:41I'm glad you came to play.
25:43Our fun and learning never end.
25:45Here's what we did today.
25:48We helped Curtis by finding out more about trees.
25:51We learned that trees grow big and strong by drinking water with their roots and sunshine with their leaves.
25:58And even though Paul Biden chopped down trees, he planted more so we'd always have plenty.
26:04Oh, I just love trees.
26:06And remember, I love you.
26:27I love you.
