00:00We all go through a time of aging and one of the most difficult things to maintain is a healthy, at-fit lifestyle and body.
00:08It's challenging, but there are many benefits for us.
00:12Well, that's true, Dianne, because if we are fit, we will be able to avoid the feelings and we will be able to handle the signs of aging.
00:20To share with us some personal tips for staying healthy and fit, we will be joined by Antolin Lenlen-Oreta III.
00:29Good morning and welcome back to Rising China in the Philippines.
00:31Good morning, good morning, Audrey. Good morning, Dianne.
00:34Alright, Sir Lenlen, tell us about your fitness routine that can help our viewers to stay healthy and fit.
00:41Well, actually, I exercise as often as I can, usually five times a week, just for an hour.
00:51But we need to sweat a lot, so exercising is a big thing because it's preventive, we don't get sick.
01:01In fact, I was able to convert my wife, she exercises regularly now, so it's a big thing.
01:07What do I do? I do weights, MWF, and then Tuesdays, Thursdays, I either walk or I swim.
01:20So I've been doing that for quite a while now. If I didn't do that, I'm sure I'll gain weight because I eat a lot.
01:27That's my problem.
01:29And as a chef, I understand that your wife will make you eat a lot.
01:33That's a big problem. But now, I just eat what she feeds me, so I don't have to eat what others feed me.
01:41For that reason, we stay healthy.
01:44Sir, you served as 10 years mayor of Malabon.
01:48Did you have any programs for healthy lifestyles in your constituents back then?
01:54Actually, we had a lot of programs. One of them was Zumba.
01:58But that's for my wife. I'm not as coordinated, I'm just joining in.
02:02But she's the one who does it.
02:04We also do fun runs.
02:06Before, I used to run 5-10K runs.
02:12Of course, all the sports, badminton, basketball. I really love basketball.
02:17And I would join leagues in the barangay.
02:20So I'm joining in.
02:22But sometimes, basketball is too physical.
02:24So I can't avoid physicality.
02:26It's painful, especially when we're getting older.
02:29We get fat.
02:31So we have to take it slow.
02:33Okay. Well, nutrition is very important to you, Sir Linlin.
02:38So personally, Papa, what is your diet and what are your recommendations about it?
02:44Well, we should stay away from sugar, especially as we age.
02:47It's so hard now.
02:49Because most guys nowadays, they become diabetics.
02:53So definitely, we should avoid soft drinks, iced tea, drinks with sugar.
03:00For me, it's hard because I have a sweet tooth.
03:04So I want something sweet.
03:06Like cakes, pastries, ice cream.
03:08So that's my problem.
03:10So definitely, if you avoid sugar, it's a big deal.
03:13But the question is, how?
03:15Especially when we see on social media,
03:17there are pictures of people selling sweets.
03:21It's really about control.
03:23It's mind over matter.
03:25It's all a mindset.
03:27Well, just in case,
03:29if you can't control it,
03:31if you eat a lot of sweets,
03:33what should you do to burn it?
03:35Well, definitely,
03:37you should not be sedentary.
03:39You should move around to burn it.
03:41So definitely,
03:43moving around, exercising,
03:45would be a big help.
03:47Sometimes, if we eat a lot,
03:49if we walk after an hour,
03:51you have to digest your food
03:53and walk around.
03:55That would help tremendously.
03:57Okay, I understand your wife,
03:59aside from being a chef,
04:01you're also a teacher.
04:03Well, we call ourselves
04:05teachers' moms,
04:07for our teachers.
04:09What are your recommendations
04:11for teachers?
04:13Well,
04:15our teachers,
04:17they're overworked
04:19and underpaid.
04:21So we want to help them.
04:23One thing I'm very passionate about,
04:25because I see in our public school system,
04:27there are a lot of kids
04:29who go to school
04:31and reach high school
04:33without knowing how to read.
04:35So that's very alarming.
04:37And maybe some of them,
04:39they might be stunted.
04:41So we want to eliminate stunting
04:43in our communities,
04:45in our barangays,
04:47so we can help our teachers.
04:49Because no matter how good
04:51a teacher is,
04:53if a kid is stunted,
04:55it's hard to learn.
04:57Stunting is a big deal
04:59for the teachers.
05:01And now,
05:03I've been watching the news,
05:05I've been watching
05:07the Congress,
05:09and then I heard
05:11that there are
05:1333 teachers
05:15to one computer.
05:17That's kind of alarming.
05:19They need support.
05:21So hopefully, we can help our teachers
05:23because it's a big deal.
05:25So they need help from the national government
05:27and also from the local government.
05:29Of course.
05:31I stand corrected.
05:33Last Saturday was International Teachers' Day.
05:35Because Teachers' Month
05:37started last September.
05:39But of course, we can celebrate
05:41Teachers' Day every day.
05:43Do you have a message
05:45to our teachers,
05:47to our students?
05:49What's your message?
05:51Being a teacher is a calling.
05:53So definitely,
05:55we need to continue
05:57teaching our students
05:59because they are the future.
06:01And our students need to study and learn
06:03so that we can improve
06:05our quality of life.
06:07Alright. Thank you very much, Sir Lennon Doreta
06:09for visiting us here at Rise and Shine Philippines.
06:11And of course, for sharing
06:13your fitness tips and advocacies.
06:15Thank you, Sir Lennon.
