Kim Kardashian Demands Menendez Brothers RELEASE From Prison As New Evidence Surfaces

00:00Kim Kardashian is speaking out and advocating for the Menendez brothers to be freed.

00:05On October 3rd, a personal essay from the reality star and criminal justice reform advocate

00:10was published by NBC News where she urges authorities to reconsider Eric and Lyle Menendez's life sentences.

00:17The brothers' case has recently come back into the spotlight after Netflix released a series based on their case.

00:24Part of this process is the two of you reconnecting, growing closer as brothers.

00:36Eric and I killed our parents together, so I'd say that makes us pretty close.

00:49Kim Kardashian writes in her essay,

00:53Eric and Lyle had no chance of a fair trial against this backdrop.

00:58Back then, there were limited resources for victims of sexual abuse, particularly for boys.

01:03There were virtually no systems in place to support survivors,

01:07and public awareness of the trauma of male sexual abuse was minimal,

01:11often clouded by preconceived judgments and homophobia.

01:15Can anyone honestly deny that the justice system would have treated the Menendez sisters more leniently?

01:21The brothers, who are now in their 50s, were sentenced to life in prison for killing their parents

01:26in their Beverly Hills mansion more than 35 years ago.

01:29Lyle, who was 21, and Eric, who was 18, at the time admitted they fatally shotgunned their parents,

01:35Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989.

01:37They said they killed their parents after years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.

01:43But ultimately, prosecutors said there was no evidence of the abuse,

01:46and that the men were just after their parents' multi-million dollar estate.

01:50In her essay, Kim writes,

02:01Going on to say,

02:14were more befitting a serial killer than two individuals who endured years of sexual abuse

02:20by the very people they loved and trusted.

02:22She ended the essay saying,

02:31After all the attention and the surfacing of new evidence,

02:34the L.A. District Attorney said Thursday,

02:36prosecutors will be reviewing the case once again.

02:40That there was evidence that, had that evidence been presented to the jury,

02:44the outcome of this case would have been different.

02:47And second, under California law,

02:49where a prosecutor can evaluate whether someone has been rehabilitated,

02:55and if so, ask the court to determine whether the person should be resentenced.
