Britain's favourite bear has taken up residence on a bench in the shopping centre as part of a national trail to promote his latest cinematic venture Paddington in Peru.

00:06So Paddington is past the bigger trail to launch Paddington in Peru and we're absolutely thrilled to see that he's come to the Bridges for the local community to come and see him.
00:16And how long is he likely to be here?
00:18He doesn't have an end date but everybody will get a chance to come and see him and we hope he'll be here for a very long time.
00:24And anyone can just come down any time and sit down and have their photograph taken with their favourite bear?

00:32Mayor of Sunderland, Alison Chisnell, did the unveiling this morning. What do you think of Paddington?
00:36He's absolutely brilliant. He's absolutely amazing. He's so close to detail to what Paddington's like in real life. His colours, his vibrancy, he's brilliant, brilliant.
00:47So you think it's going to be a big hit with the visitors down here?
00:49Of course it will, yes. It will be. I mean people of all ages love Paddington. People have been walking past who's from a very young age to an older age and they all love him. All of them.
01:02Jade Jenkins is here with Abenthal Cole who seems to be very taken with Paddington. What did he think?
01:08Loved it, didn't you? I think he just wanted his marmalade sandwich.
01:11And then did you know he was going to be here or was it a pleasant surprise?
01:14Yes, I heard it on the news. It was just by chance we'd come down and we'd seen it.
01:19And what do you think? Do you think it's going to be a hit?
01:21Yes, definitely. It's lovely.
01:24Stacey Gardner is here at the Bridges with sons Fred and Michael Gunn. You weren't expecting to come face to face with Paddington I think?
01:32No, we certainly were not. It was a nice surprise, wasn't it?

01:38They are. We love it. We're singing it on the way on here by chance as well. So it was a nice surprise.
