00:00You
00:30Forget New York, London, Paris, Munich, Truro is the place to be for this cracking fashion
00:42show with a difference. The models are special people, strutting their stuff in the echoey
00:47aisle of Cornwall's Cathedral. They wear special clothes, fancy designer garb amongst them,
00:55and this is a very special cause. This is the first Cornwall Hospice Care fashion show,
01:03aiming to raise awareness of the charity, the uniquely sustainable way its shops help
01:09save clothes from landfill, and give its staff, volunteers and supporters a fun evening out.
01:17The transformation of the Cathedral starts after morning prayers, with the runway being
01:22set up in the main aisle. By evensong, the stage is set, and those special models start
01:29to arrive for hair and make-up, done by the students from Truro College. These models
01:36are special because every one of them is either a member of staff, or a volunteer for Cornwall
01:41Hospice Care. I was in uniform on the wall a few hours ago, and now I'm all glammed up,
01:46ready to go on the catwalk. How are you looking forward to it? Nervous, but it's going to
01:51be amazing. It's such a fantastic thing to do, to be able to give something back to all
01:55those people who give to us. It's fantastic.
02:06And how are you looking forward to this? Is it frightening, or are you quite happy?
02:09Oh God no, I'm an absolute big head, so it's fabulous. It suits me down to the ground.
02:14Not everyone is so confident.
02:18Horrendous. It's horrendous. I was on my own first, so I was the only one that had to go
02:24down the catwalk on their own. So I hated it, but actually now I've been down a few
02:29times, I actually think it's great, and it's a great night, and the atmosphere is great.
02:32I'm wearing a pair of shorts, a long cardigan over it, and a gold bag, and a plain top underneath,
02:50and some gold jewellery, and I've got sparkly gold shoes on.
02:56This, and all the other fancy clothes in the show, has all been donated to the charity's
03:02shops across Cornwall.
03:04The shops and the donation centres, without them we wouldn't have the money to run the
03:08hospices. Last year they raised £1.65 million towards the care of the hospices by selling
03:14a million items in the shops, so it's twofold. Our strap line is caring for our community,
03:19so we're caring for our community in the hospices, and we're caring for our community by looking
03:23after the environment, by saving those things from landfill.
03:28And everything in the show is for sale, once the models have changed out of them of course,
03:33although some of it didn't make it to the charity's pop-up shop.
03:39I'm actually buying this one afterwards, I'm actually buying it, yeah, because I really
03:45like it.
03:46Go for it.
03:52Amongst all the clobber there are rare and vintage items.
04:01It's yes, beautiful, vintage Laura Ashley dress, it is so soft and it's stunning, so
04:06yeah, it's bought, absolutely stunning.
04:16The styles on show include this retro leather jacket.
04:25To do this, if it just raises a little bit of money to continue that wonderful care,
04:31then one would make a complete fool of oneself.
04:34And who isn't thinking about a Christmas woolly already?
04:37Don't answer that.
04:38And who isn't thinking about a Christmas woolly already?
04:41Don't answer that.
04:42And who isn't thinking about a Christmas woolly already? Don't answer that!
05:12More than 400 people made up the audience, ticket sales adding to the cash from the
05:36fashion items on sale, all helping to support the vital work the charity carries out. This
05:43was the first ever Cornwall Hospice Care fashion show. Next year anyone?
