00:00A very good day. Welcome to BNC African News Feed. I'm Tanaka Gosa, and your stories are
00:07as follows. President Sir Ramaphosa said that the government was pushing ahead with the
00:13implementation of the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act, despite ongoing debate around
00:20it. Ramaphosa made the announcement during his keynote address at the 24th National Teaching
00:26Awards held at the Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park on Saturday morning. As the globe marks
00:34World Teachers' Day, the event is also dedicated to honouring the nation's hard-working educators.
00:43Ramaphosa admitted that the signing of the BELA Act was long overdue, but added, better
00:50late than never. The Act, which has sparked division during its time in Parliament, faced
00:57opposition from the Democratic Alliance, or the DA for short. Education Minister Siviri
01:03Kwarunbe echoed her party's stance, arguing it should not be enforced in its current form.
01:13Onto the story, the African National Congress, or ANC for short, in KwaZulu-Natal has said
01:20that part of its renewal process is to focus on reviving its branches, and this included
01:27attending to service delivery issues much faster. Party leaders will on Saturday be
01:34hosting programmes in parts of the province with its structures. On Friday, the Provincial
01:41Party Chairperson Sibonisi Weduma addressed councillors in Umlazi, south of Durban, which
01:49is also the party's largest rather contributor to the party's biggest region in Itagwini.
01:57Duma said that the ANC must first focus on building stronger branches. He added that
02:03the party also needed to produce activists who would deal with service concerns.
02:12And lastly in the news, Sandy Lekageng-Radewe from Sibugeng is seeking help from the public
02:20after losing her entire wallet, which contained her passport, while travelling home from Zimbabwe.
02:28Her wallet was last seen on Tuesday at around 7.30pm near a garage in Limbombo, Borda. Sandy
02:36Lekageng-Radewe is particularly concerned about recovering her passport.
02:41From the ANC African News Feed, I'm Tanika Goza. My time is up and I thank you for yours.
