As the second huge hurricane in as many weeks rumbles toward Florida's west coast, staff at Tampa's zoo begins securing animals in preparation for Hurricane Milton's landfall. The storm-battered US state girds for a direct hit from the hurricane, a monster weather system threatening catastrophic damage and forcing President Joe Biden to postpone a major overseas trip. It is forecast to make landfall Wednesday night in Florida as a Category 3 storm and remain powerful as it churns across the state.

00:00We are preparing the zoo for a hurricane.
00:09Every hurricane looks a little bit different, so we watch very closely and see what is predicted.
00:14And then we always want to prepare for kind of the worst, worst case scenario, we want
00:19to make sure we're over prepared.
00:21And we have a very comprehensive hurricane plan that outlines every category of hurricane,
00:27what animals are going to move where.
00:56I would say it's very stressful for the staff, but it's something that we are used to, it's
01:00something that we practice.
01:02So we are storm ready certified, which is really important.
01:05We practice drills, you know, even when it's not hurricane, we're practicing, we're making
01:10sure that we're ready for this.
