She then continued a brilliant acting career in theater, cinema and in various television productions, receiving several nominations for the Golden Globes and Emmy Awards. In 2006, she was diagnosed with colon cancer and in April 2009 she was hospitalized in Germany for a last and desperate attempt to save her. In her final months, the actress participated in a documentary about her battle with cancer, filmed by Fawcett herself and her friend and producer Alana Stewart, which aired on NBC on May 15, 2009, 40 days before the actress's death. The film, The Farrah Fawcett Story, was broadcast in the United States with much fanfare but at the same time with success: it was followed by 10 million viewers and received an Emmy Award nomination among the best programs of the year.
