00:30A very warm welcome once again to the Multan Cricket Stadium here for Day 2 of the first
00:35test between England and Pakistan.
00:39Saud Shaqeel and Naseem Shah the two men walk out into the middle with Pakistan at 328-4.
00:46England bowlers hopefully well rested after a hard toil on Day 1, they'll come out its
00:51one apiece to leech and walks with Gus Atkinson will start the day with two wickets.
00:58Let's join the action now here on Day 2.
01:58Yeah, not going hard after that one, just dropping his wrist making sure that even if
02:05there was an edge it didn't carry which was the end result on that occasion.
02:14Would they like to clean up Naseem Shah as quickly as possible?
02:23Gets an edge, gets some runs as well, probably four, it's the new ball, may just carry to
02:27the fence, it does.
02:30So the frustration continues for England, Naseem Shah is still hanging in there.
02:43Such a contrast isn't there, watching Naseem Shah at one end and Saud Shaqeel at the other.
02:50Who've been performing very well, one is Saud Shaqeel, the other one from Sri Lanka Kamendu
02:57Mendes in no time after his debut got to 1,000 runs.
03:06Oh, hits him, where's one?
03:18Hit him right on the helmet.
03:23The ball just doesn't get up and then you've got nowhere to go, that's a nasty blow, he
03:28looks okay thankfully but there was a bouncer earlier on, very early in the day when he
03:35looked discomforted so you can see why England want to go at this line of attack now.
03:42Down the track, hits it over the top, Naseem likes it and it's gone all the way.
03:51Well if he's going to get peppered at one end from Gus Atkinson he's probably saying
03:56to himself I'm going to enjoy my time against Shoaib Bashir which will open up the opportunity
04:02for Bashir who in the English summer took a five wicket haul in a game against West
04:07Indies at Trent Bridge and that was on the back of some very fast bowling at the other
04:11end.
04:12Oh, sweep shot and that'll race away to the fence, a very composed, a very structured
04:19innings from Saud Shaquille yet again, gets to his seventh Test Match 50, likes playing
04:26against England, his fifth here and also in Multan, third one in Multan, Saud Shaquille
04:34carries on.
04:37Down the pitch, way way over deep mid wicket, will it go all the way?
04:42It does.
04:43He's in a slightly different position than yesterday, off the fence, this is well over
04:50long on, it's a lovely swing of the bat and it is fully committed.
05:01Does come down and he does show that he can go in to out over the offside, he's got that
05:06shot in his repertoire.
05:07And the best for me by a distance, that's a wonderful shot, encouraged to play it because
05:13Pope has brought Chris Wokes up from long off into the circle, oh, hold the pose, that's
05:20fantastic.
05:27It works, eventually they get Nassim Shah, it's an edge into leg slip and Harry Brook
05:33obliges.
05:34Brighton Cars now has his first international Test wicket, it took a long time but England
05:39now have five.
05:40When he got an LBW given against Shaan Masood but was then overturned, so he's had a long
05:46wait to pick up his first Test wicket, it's a moment that he would have dreamt about,
05:52maybe might have hoped for a slightly better batter than Nassim Shah for his maiden wicket
05:59but he'll take whatever he can get.
06:05Masood sweeps well and does pierce the gap, there were two men stationed behind square
06:10on the left side, so does well to pick up the boundary to close, Leach is over.
06:18That's another one gone, as simple as you like, Leach has two and Rizwan walks back
06:24for naught.
06:25He was about a half way back and between them Leach and Pope, motion wokes in, get tight
06:30on the one.
06:32That encouraged Rizwan to come down, he got too close to the ball so he couldn't get the
06:37elevation that he wanted and offered a simple catch to Chris Wokes, so a second for England
06:44this morning and Pakistan not yet out of sight, they're 3.93 for six now, with Rizwan a big
06:50wicket to fall.
06:51He does take it on, and he takes it on quite well, he'll pick up a boundary.
07:00Leading down the left side has just helped on its way, and obviously he'll get underneath
07:07it, won't want to keep it down.
07:15No damage done for Pakistan that is, 112 overs done, and it will be lunch at Pakistan
07:23397 for six.
07:30A slightly subdued session one here on day two for Pakistan, England however picking
07:34up the two wickets, Pakistan scoring it, also dropping to 2.65.
07:39The two wickets to fall, that of Naseem Shah for 33, he had a few good hits out in the
07:43middle, but Rizwan the big wicket went for naught.
07:46So Chakil remains unbeaten at 67 and will start lunch with Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan
07:53397 for six.
07:55A couple of wickets more for England in that first session, Brydon Kass with his first
08:00international test wicket, that of Naseem Shah, and Jack Leach picked up Mohamed Rizwan
08:05to have two to his name.
08:07Session begins here post-lunch on day two.
08:16Tossed up, beautiful start, into out, nice way to get off the mark, 400 up for Pakistan.
08:24Here's a positive player, Salman Ali Agha, he's a very competent batsman against the
08:34spin.
08:35Saw a bit of flight, got to the pitch of the ball and knew where the gap was.
08:40And he's off the mark.
08:48My point has always been that he allows that pressure to be released when the men are in
08:51the deep, unnecessarily.
08:53That's a great shot, that's someone taking advantage of that and saying yes, I'm prepared
08:58to take the risk, and you contrast that with Rizwan's dismissal, and you take your pick.
09:06But this is beautifully struck.
09:11Maybe a sign, they just had a chat at lunchtime and said look, we can't plod along, we need
09:16to get 20 wickets out there.
09:18Hard sweep, and there's no one out there, definite signs after lunch that Salman's going
09:28to play his shots, particularly against Leach and spin.
09:35Every shot he's played so far against Leach has been high quality.
09:42With the sweep shot into the field as it's set, just has to make sure of course he doesn't
09:48get it behind square.
09:52Goes again, there's no one on the leg side, Wokes tries to get round, and there is no
09:58doubting that one.
10:00It was the bin that was in play.
10:03I have to score, Balcomar runs against this bowler.
10:09As a boxman you have to target one bowler in the line-up, and it's Jack Leach for Salman
10:14Ali Agha.
10:15He's got plenty already against him.
10:24Well it's a good battle, and it's a battle that Salman Ali Agha is winning at the moment.
10:30He's injected some acceleration into this innings.
10:34Immediately after lunch, tucking into Jack Leach, it almost cost him his wicket down
10:39at long off where Wokes almost took a brilliant catch, but he's right on top of the left arm
10:44spinner right now.
10:50A beauty, a beauty from Bashir, who has not been at his best in this innings but has produced
10:56a good one now to get rid of Saud Shakeel.
11:00Wonderful line and length coming into pitching on or around.
11:04No, not really, he's not turned the bat face.
11:07That's a very, very fine delivery from Shoaib Bashir.
11:11He's played beautifully, and he's gone for 82.
11:14Pakistan 450 for 7.
11:26Look for 3.
11:30Bryden Kars to continue.
11:32He did pick up his first wicket.
11:35That of Nassim Shah with that strangle down the left side.
11:40He had a close call which was reviewed by Shaan Masood just pitching outside left stump
11:44earlier in the day yesterday.
11:48Oh, big shout, big shout.
11:50And he's been given.
11:53That's been given.
11:54Bryden Kars has to.
11:58With the immediate effect, we'll also have a look.
12:00He has reviewed this one.
12:03Original decision is out.
12:04Pitching outside off.
12:05Impact is in line.
12:07Wickets, umpire's call.
12:09Kumar will get you back on screen.
12:10You can stay with your original decision of out.
12:13Now we receive confirmation very quickly.
12:16Kumar Dharmasena again raises his finger just to confirm that was hitting the stumps.
12:21Ahmed Jamal goes for 7.
12:23Pakistan 464 for 8.
12:31Takes it on.
12:33Puts the dancing shoes on and times it well.
12:36Salman Ali Agha picks up a boundary to close the over.
12:39Showing intent, Salman Ali Agha took the right option.
12:42He tried it a couple of times in this over, but this time around, it prevailed.
12:46It prevailed.
12:52Big shout.
12:53Well, sort of big shout.
12:54It was nearly a big shout.
12:55Then it wasn't a big shout.
12:58Right, one fist 50 for Salman Ali Agha.
13:03Ooh, a vault.
13:04Just a little bit of turn, but he's pushed it away.
13:06That will be the 50.
13:09Comfortable 2.
13:11As it runs away down towards a sort of wide-ish third.
13:16So, 51 for Salman Ali Agha.
13:19He's played very well indeed.
13:20Took the initiative straight after lunch.
13:25Working out how to bat with the lower order.
13:27It's his 8th 50 in Test matches.
13:29His third against England.
13:31And his first in Multan.
13:35That's an option.
13:36That's a very, very good option with just those two men on the offside.
13:42Bashir had thrown the last one a long way down the left side.
13:45This is just a little bit straighter.
13:48Just straight enough to get the reverse sweep into action.
13:54That was the option.
13:55You get it on the offside.
13:58And you'll be accredited.
14:00The reverse sweep is part and parcel of the way you play.
14:12Well, that's sweet.
14:14That is very sweet.
14:15One bounce.
14:16Two yards in from the rope over long off.
14:19Bashir just gave him enough room to get the shot in.
14:23He did.
14:24And it was much more controlled because of that reason.
14:26One, to start the over.
14:28He didn't get in a decent balance or position to hit it.
14:31This one.
14:32Look at the balance.
14:37Orthodox sweep gets away.
14:39Placed nicely between the two men in the deep.
14:41And with enough of it to reach the boundary.
14:45Probably gives chase but had no chance.
14:48Yeah, we saw this earlier.
14:49How low his hands get.
14:51How horizontal his bat gets for the sweep.
14:53Gets in a great position.
14:55Look at that.
14:56Even though it was full, it was almost a Yorker.
14:58Because his hands are low and his bat is horizontal.
15:02Gets it right in the middle of the bat and sweeps it beautifully away.
15:12Well, that's gone.
15:15That's gone into big, wide, empty space.
15:20Yes, another four in quick succession.
15:22One thousand runs now reached by Salman Ali Agha in Tespas.
15:27It's over the milestone for him.
15:30Just the cleanness of the striking is there to behold.
15:35Goes offside when he comes down the track.
15:37Offside of the goal to be able to access leg side.
15:42Salah!
15:47It just seems as easy as anything.
15:50Almost wherever the spin and the seam is directed.
15:54He finds a way of finding the boundary.
15:57You might have seen a few minutes ago.
15:59We were talking about the 50 man mark.
16:02And whether Shaheen Sharafredi will start playing some shots.
16:05He's quickly moved on to 76.
16:08He may be thinking of 100.
16:10Well, Shaheen's not had the strike.
16:12He's played it perfectly since lunch.
16:14He's got the tempo of his knock spot on.
16:21Well, that's given him the opportunity.
16:23That was just the right length for Shaheen Sharaf.
16:28Just the edge.
16:30This is what he can do so well.
16:33Good solid block from Shaheen Sharaf.
16:36Freedy the umpire calls time for tea.
16:40And that is another excellent session for the home side.
16:46The side that have lost their last five test matches.
16:48And went into this test match lacking confidence.
16:52Well, they've shown a lot of skill.
16:54A lot of flair.
17:03Pakistan walk-off post-lunch with 515 on the board.
17:07With the loss of eight wickets.
17:08Saoud Shaqeel, the seventh man to go for 82.
17:12And Amir Jamal also for seven.
17:15A couple of more wickets to England.
17:17As they take eight off Pakistan.
17:19It was Brydon Kass, his second international test wicket.
17:22And Shoaib Bashir with his maiden wicket so far in the series.
17:33Even off the first test against Bangladesh, 448 played 565.
17:39And we still got a result.
17:43Credit to Pakistan for making dull cricket into exciting.
17:46Cricket that's lifted hard.
17:50He's been really good with those lofty shots.
17:53Didn't really make it to the fence this time.
17:56But they're not afraid of plucking players that they see have a bit of potential.
18:01A smash into the fence for four.
18:10He gives himself room.
18:11And he does enough.
18:12Enough to get it over the infield.
18:14All fielders up.
18:16And they are asking him to hit over the top.
18:18And he obliges.
18:21Easier take for Shahin Shah Afridi.
18:24This is glorious six.
18:25This really is massive from Salman Ali Agha.
18:28Salman Ali Agha yet to pick up those two charges at long on and long off.
18:34And he did that so well.
18:38He is quite brilliant.
18:39Especially at the number that he comes out to bat.
18:41The rate at which he scores his runs.
18:43And then the shots that he executes.
18:48Afridi goes for a big shot.
18:51Clears the fence for six.
18:58Pakistan team can bat.
19:02Shahin Shah Afridi loves to bat.
19:04And can hit the ball a long way.
19:07And does well.
19:09Comes down the track.
19:11Opens up that space to swing through the line.
19:16And he gets six as well.
19:20Quick shot.
19:21Earns him a single.
19:23Probably will earn him a standing ovation at the balcony as well.
19:26This is a tremendous innings.
19:29His third hundred.
19:30Batted beautifully.
19:32Increased the pace.
19:35Played well with the tail.
19:36Played well with Sal Chakir.
19:41It's the ideal strike way to continue Pakistan's success to this test match.
19:50Yeah, he's certainly been a phenomenal find for Pakistan.
19:54He's been a fantastic player.
19:56The position that he comes in.
19:59And he scores his runs very, very quickly.
20:01Once again, another hundred.
20:02Just over the hundred and eight deliveries.
20:06Fouled him.
20:07Cleaned him up.
20:11A swipe attempted against the line.
20:13And he's been bowled by Leitch.
20:15Had to work extremely hard to pick up a scalp.
20:18He's got one.
20:19Salman Ali Agha got to that three-figure mark.
20:22And once he did, it didn't take long.
20:25One foot down.
20:26Big swipe across the line.
20:29It's middle halfway up.
20:31Jack Leitch now has three.
20:34And is that on Shaheen Shah?
20:36He did ninth wicket to four for Pakistan.
20:38Twenty-six he gets.
20:42Down the pitch.
20:44Mid-on and mid-off.
20:45Try and get there.
20:46It'll beat both of them.
20:51There is the bouncer.
20:52And he's got a wicket with the bouncer.
20:54Now, is Ducky okay?
20:56Has he just dislocated a thumb or something?
20:59The last ball of the innings.
21:00And the opening batsman.
21:02Copsman on the left thumb.
21:04It's a very sharp chance.
21:06It's a very sharp bouncer for a spinner.
21:09He's guided it as if it's slip catching.
21:10It's right on the end of the thumb.
21:14Pakistan's first innings finally coming to a close
21:17with the Mammoth 556 on the board here on day two.
21:21Another century to that batting column.
21:23That of Salman Ali Agha.
21:25104 not out.
21:28Wickets shared all around for the England bowlers.
21:30Jack Leitch leading that column with three wickets.
21:33Brydon Cars and Gus Atkinson with two apiece.
21:35And one apiece for Wokes, Bashir and Jorut.
21:39Let's join the action for the England first innings.
21:43And Zach Crawley to face the first ball of England's innings.
21:52Hint of swing in.
21:54Hint, yeah.
21:55And a perfect line and length.
22:01Opens the face.
22:02And as you often get with Zach Crawley,
22:04off the mark with a boundary.
22:06Four for none, England.
22:09Again, it's that full delivery you associate with Shaheen Shah of Freedie.
22:13Certainly early on in his spell.
22:16Crawley just opens the face quite a lot, actually.
22:19There is a lot of room through that point region.
22:25Ball now as he pulled off Astana.
22:27He has pulled off an absolutely brilliant catch.
22:32Aamir Jamal at mid-wicket.
22:34What a grab that is.
22:39Pulls it away leg side.
22:42And suddenly, it is Aamir Jamal.
22:50Molly Pope there thinks four.
22:52Then time stands still as Aamir Jamal just plucks it out of the sky.
22:58That is fabulous fielding.
23:00Fabulous catch.
23:02Just the start Pakistan wanted.
23:04Not the start England wanted.
23:06Not their captain.
23:09Punched on the up.
23:10He's punched so hard the sweeper can do nothing about it.
23:14Cracking shot from Zach Crawley.
23:17This back of a length.
23:19He's still coming forward at it.
23:20Such a tall man.
23:22Not much bounce in this pitch.
23:24Right on the top of the bounce that there was.
23:27And that has raced away.
23:31Nice off drive.
23:32He's had a cover drive that went for three.
23:34Now an off drive that finds the boundary.
23:41There's quite something to watch when he's in sync and on song.
23:44And that's more often than not.
23:48Finds the middle of the bat this time.
23:50And the man out is very square.
23:52So Crawley picks up a boundary with a thumping drive.
23:56It was very reminiscent of the ball that he hit in the Ashes series a couple of summers ago.
24:03And he started the series with a shot just like that.
24:07If ever there was an example of taking a good delivery out of your system
24:13and just focusing on the next one, it was that.
24:18And again to the right of short extra cover this time.
24:21Two thumping drives from Crawley.
24:24The second one to finish the seventh over.
24:31Crawley determined not to let Abrar settle.
24:34Down the pitch, the previous ball defending, but down the pitch with intent this time.
24:41He's not a big spinner of the ball.
24:42So once you line him up like this, so you can play through the line.
24:52Wallop again.
24:53No man out.
24:56Crawley ticking along very nicely now.
25:00Positive again, this time off the back foot.
25:04With the ball being relatively hard still, just 11 overs old.
25:08That will go for four.
25:0950 up for England.
25:19Once again, nicely played.
25:20Extremely well controlled by Jouro to pick up four.
25:25Brilliant.
25:26Extremely good use of the feet and hit it.
25:28The absolute best area straight back past the bowler.
25:31Zach also picks up another boundary.
25:38Punched off the back foot.
25:42Punched for four.
25:43This is brilliant.
25:44This is the first time I've ever seen this.
25:46This is the first time I've ever seen this.
25:48This is the first time I've ever seen this.
25:51Punched for four.
25:53This is brilliant from Zach Crawley again.
25:56It's so tricky to bowl out because he's at you and he's got a long reach.
25:59So you just draw your length back a fraction.
26:03And he'll hang back and punch you.
26:05The pitch is so good.
26:10Turned away.
26:11Next side timing again.
26:12Very good.
26:13And that'll race to the fence and also bring up Crawley's 50.
26:17It's been a fabulous watch so far.
26:19As always classy shots to the fence.
26:22His 16th Test Match 50.
26:27He's been very much in control.
26:30Very fluent.
26:35This one just pumped away.
26:36Next side slightly shorter.
26:38And it's picked up beautifully.
26:42That's the other ability that he has against the quicker bowlers.
26:49Solidly forward is Joe Root.
26:51And that will be the end of the day's play.
26:55England 96 for 1.
26:57This partnership 92 after that early scare with a fabulous catch.
27:01Amir Jamal at mid-wicket.
27:04It's been all good from England.
27:05Especially Zach Crawley.
27:08Who's been able to find the fence at 11 boundaries in his 64.
27:14England end the day's play at 96 for 1.
27:17Top scorer Zach Crawley remains unbeaten at a runner ball 64.
27:21Joe Root alongside.
27:2232 not out.
27:23The one wicket to fall.
27:24That of the England captain Ollie Pope who went for not.
27:28Pakistan using 4 bowlers in the first 20 overs.
27:31The one wicket taken by Naseem Shah.
27:33That of Ollie Pope.
27:35Match summary so far here at the end of day 2.
27:37Pakistan with a massive 556 in that first half.
27:42England in pursuit 96 for 1.
27:45They trailed by 460.
27:47Hope you've enjoyed the highlights.
27:49We'll see you tomorrow.
