00:00Once called the Bahay Pangarap in the time of his two predecessors,
00:04it's been renamed and redone as a fitting haven for presidential rest and recreation.
00:10And its exquisite renovation is care of the First Lady's unmistakable taste for blending the new with the old.
00:17Our Kenneth Paciente on the makeover of Bahay Pangulo in this report.
00:24There's no denying President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.
00:27has a very busy schedule every day having the toughest job in the land.
00:31From private meetings, welcoming guests at the Malacanang,
00:35traveling to various parts of the country, and even making working visits abroad.
00:39Thus one might wonder if the President ever rest or where does he and his family go to relax and recharge?
00:45Well, it's none other than Bahay Pangulo which recently underwent renovation.
00:50The aging Bahay Pangarap as it was once called
00:54had become old over time and suffered damage from the strong earthquake in 2022.
00:59But now it has a new look with its resort-like features that includes a swimming pool and refreshing green ambience.
01:05According to the architect, First Lady Luis Araneta Marcos herself came up with the idea of how to improve the presidential residence.
01:13What the First Lady wants is to make it feel like a resort.
01:18Because that's the idea from the beginning so the presidents can relax.
01:23She said, of course, when the president comes, he's tired, he just wants to relax.
01:28So that was the premise.
01:30So as soon one enters, he or she is greeted by a bright and airy living room.
01:35From the dining area, kitchen, bathroom, and more, the changes are clear and certainly welcome.
01:41There are also guest villas and a gym where the president can do his workouts.
01:46Though the presidential residence has a modern touch,
01:48it still retains its unmistakable Filipino heritage in the design and the furniture on display,
01:53such as artworks by Amor Solo.
01:56There are a lot of artworks from Malacanang that are sometimes hidden.
02:01So they wanted to showcase, of course, that's our national treasure.
02:07So when they have dignitaries like they wanted to invite in the house,
02:12they can see the showcase, the beauty that's...
02:16The newly renovated presidential R&R digs was built to last so it can be used by future leaders of the country.
02:22In particular, the engineering issue was addressed
02:25given during former President Rodrigo Duterte's time,
02:28floodwaters reach knee-deep or knee-high.
02:43The cost of renovating the presidential residence was not disclosed,
02:46but the budget was drawn meticulously and spent wisely
02:49given the range of cost-efficient options.
02:52The highest official of the country carries with him great responsibility.
02:56So after a long day of work, the president should also take time to relax.
03:01Kenneth Paciente, from The National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
