00:00Alright, NFL Power Rankings, coming out of week 5, somehow, we're already through week
00:145.
00:155!
00:16Um, so, running through, 32, up to 1, starting at number 32, guess, it's the Carolina Panthers.
00:25Could probably put the New England Patriots here, and honestly, maybe should put the New
00:28England Patriots here, but Carolina, you know, ripped Dennis Green, but they are who we thought
00:36they were.
00:37And Chicago didn't let them off the hook as the Bears whooped that ass on Sunday, and
00:43just kind of reminded us that yes, it is lovely that Andy Dolton came in and made this look
00:47like a real football team, against the Raiders, and against the Bengals, but against any defense
00:53worth anything, not gonna go great.
00:57And it didn't, on Sunday, against the Chicago Bears.
01:00This is still a very flawed football team, and the Andy Dolton effect, I think, probably
01:07wearing off very, very quickly.
01:10And we will see how things go for this team going forward, but it does kind of make you
01:14think now about where they view Bryce Young.
01:18Because if you legitimately wanted this kid to develop, and if you legitimately wanted
01:23this kid to do well, wouldn't you put him in against the Raiders?
01:27I get they have the Max Crosby pass rush and all of that, but the Raiders and Bengals
01:32are actually a bit of a soft landing spot.
01:34Not that it mattered.
01:35Like, I'm not saying that this kid played really well, and the benching was undeserved
01:41in any way, shape, or form.
01:44But I do think that if you wanted to really try to get this kid right, when you were looking
01:50at the schedule, coming off of games against the Chargers and the Saints, who we all thought,
01:57coming into the season, were going to have good defenses, and then you go up against
02:02the Raiders, wouldn't you want him to try to work that out?
02:05And so instead of giving Andy Dolton the nice soft landing spot, maybe you should have given
02:10that to your kid?
02:11Who's to say?
02:13And then, the one game they do throw him out there in is the one where Andy Dolton is getting
02:17just pistol whipped by the Bears, and is getting thrown all over the place.
02:22So yeah, let's throw the kid in for that game.
02:24Kind of seems like they want him to fail at this point, right?
02:27Like it seems like they're over it, is where I am at right now.
02:32On to number 31, the New England Patriots.
02:34And they are making the move this week to go with Drake May at the quarterback position.
02:40I still think that is a mistake.
02:43And I do understand the real life aspect of this decision, and it's not necessarily one
02:50I have an explanation against, or defense against.
02:52If you are in that locker room, and you are saying every single week, no look guys, like
02:57I get, I know, clear eyes, full hearts speech time, I know what the outside world is saying
03:04about us, but we beat the Bengals in week one.
03:07We can, we can do this.
03:09We can get this back.
03:10We are still, the Patriot way lives on.
03:14That's why I, OJ Mayo, can't you tell, is here to lead the charge, and guide this football
03:20team into the future.
03:22Sure, we have lost a lot of games, by a lot of points, but we are actively trying to still
03:28win, and we can still do this.
03:30So anyway, Jacoby Brissett's gonna start again.
03:33Like it just, you can't, you can't, right?
03:35And so, while it is very easy, from 300 feet away, to look down on this situation and be
03:43like, y'all are insane for throwing your rookie quarterback in behind an offensive
03:47line that can't stop a nosebleed, at the same time, you are also trying to not lose
03:53an entire locker room of human beings who are going out there and getting into literal
03:57car crash, well, figurative car crashes, on a week in, week out basis, and putting their
04:04bodies on the line for you, and then not putting what is probably your best quarterback
04:10out there.
04:11So I do understand it from that level, I just, this feels like throwing him to the wolves,
04:16and putting him in a bad situation, and we literally just talked about the Carolina situation,
04:21and how that has scarred Bryce Young, and put him in a very bad spot, so I think that
04:28there is a real danger with this sort of a thing, but it makes me significantly more
04:35intrigued for a matchup between the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans coming up
04:43this week.
04:44Coming in at 30, it is the Cleveland Browns.
04:47It's over.
04:48It's just, it's done.
04:50It feels like the team has quit, to be completely frank with you.
04:54Like, Deshaun Watson is so very clearly not it, and the offensive line is really banged
04:59up, but you have talented players who are being wasted on this team, and it is obviously
05:05a very helpless feeling when you have the most expensive quarterback in terms of guaranteed
05:09money in the history of the sport, who is on your team, and you can't do a damn thing
05:14about it.
05:15It's tough.
05:17It's really, really tough to know where they are going to go from here.
05:21If we were looking at a, like, long-term power ranking, I think Cleveland is like 50th.
05:27You know, like, they're behind the CFL teams right now.
05:30It is.
05:31It's real bad out in Cleveland, both now and in the long term.
05:36At 29, it's Miami.
05:37We can no longer, oh well, the weapons, and oh, Michael McTenna, oh, blah blah blah.
05:41This team is playing just horrendously on offense, and Tyler Huntley, pro bowler, Tyler
05:47Huntley, is not doing anything to change any of that.
05:52It has been absolutely just awful, and now they have a bye week, so maybe a week closer
05:57to Tua coming back, potentially, and that leads to a whole other discussion about whether
06:02he should or not, but it's ugly there, and so until proven very aggressively otherwise,
06:10we are going to view this as a bad football team.
06:13Speaking of, at 28, it is the Vegas Raiders, as they are making, or potentially making
06:19a quarterback change this week, with Aiden O'Connell coming in as competition for Gardiner
06:26Minshew, and yes, the Las Vegas Raiders had a good win a couple of weeks ago, and surprised
06:33many with a victory over the Cleveland Browns, but that was an embarrassing showing against
06:38the Denver Broncos, and things were going well for the Raiders in that game, and then
06:43Gardiner Minshew throws a pick six, and it all just went to hell.
06:47And again, for a team, and for a coach, in Antonio Pearce, who preaches toughness and
06:55the vibes and all of those things, it is concerning when at the first bit of resistance, it crumbles.
07:04And this is now the second time where that's happened, right, because against Carolina,
07:07there was pushback, and they're just like, yeah, no, we're good, man.
07:11And, like, there was the comeback win against Baltimore, and that's fantastic, but we are
07:16now seeing more cases than not that this team does not handle adversity very well, and those
07:22type of intangible things are supposed to be what Antonio Pearce is bringing, because
07:26it's not the phenomenal in-game acumen.
07:30And now, going up against the Steelers this week, you're doing a quarterback competition,
07:35which by design, means you are splitting the snaps in practice this week.
07:42So you are giving whoever the starting quarterback is half of the reps to get ready for probably
07:48the best or second best defense in the National Football League.
07:53Seems like a bad idea, and that's how things are going with the Raiders.
07:57At 27, it's Chicago, things look like they are turning around a little bit, which is
08:00a funny thing to say about a team that I've put in the bottom 10 in the National Football
08:04League.
08:05But, Caleb is starting to make a few more throws, he's getting a little bit more comfortable,
08:09he's getting a bit more time, and starting to do a couple of things.
08:12This defense looks legitimate.
08:14The results haven't been there as much.
08:16They beat Carolina this week, we are not going to be throwing parades when you beat Carolina,
08:20but it's at least something, and at least it is some progress, and something to look
08:25for.
08:26Now he gets a national spotlight, albeit very early in the morning, against the Jacksonville
08:30Jaguars coming up in England.
08:33At 26, the Tennessee Titans, they have the bye this week, we will see what they do, whether
08:37it is Mason Rudolph, or the lesser option, which is a terrifying thing to say when you're
08:41talking about your potential franchise quarterback, in Will Levis, but it hasn't worked the way
08:47that I thought it would this year.
08:48They were one of my teams, and I was like, you know, I think we're, I think we're underestimating
08:52this team a little bit.
08:53The problem is, there's actually a lot that is going right on this team.
08:57It is literally just the quarterback who is coming to the sidelines, like, I didn't see
09:00him at all, which is, you know, a nice lesson to, if nothing, I mean, A, see him, but B,
09:07let's, um, let's watch the lip reading here, you know, there's a reason why coaches come
09:12out and, um, God, I have a lot of just open notebooks here, but there's a reason that
09:18coaches come out and they just do the this and all of that, so that even if maybe they
09:23aren't giving away the play or anything like that, you can't see them call the other guy
09:26a fucking moron.
09:28So you know, you have, you have that.
09:31So veteran savvy needs to be improved upon with old Will Levis there, but this is, this
09:38is a talented football team, and if they can get the quarterback spot figured out, which
09:41again, is not Mason Rudolph either, I still think there is something there, but for now,
09:46it's just not.
09:47At 25, it's the LA Rams.
09:49The thing you can say about the Rams is they play hard.
09:51They are going to battle as much as they can to stay in every game.
09:56They just have a significant talent deficiency in almost every matchup that they have, given
10:01the injuries that they are dealing with and the retirement of Aaron Donald.
10:05So credit to them for battling as much as they have, but it's not a good football team.
10:09At 24, the Denver Broncos.
10:11A lot of people saying, hey, maybe Bo Nix has figured some stuff out, and it's looked
10:14better in the last couple of weeks.
10:17Again, I will caution, it looked good for Andy Dalton against the Raiders, and then
10:21he played a real defense, and it didn't look good all of a sudden.
10:24Bo Nix, it looked good against the Raiders, and to be fair, it looked good the week prior
10:29for Bo Nix as well, when they were playing.
10:33God, they are higher up in the standings than I thought, trying to very quickly click on
10:37them in the thing.
10:39There we go.
10:40They're 3-2.
10:41That is wild to me.
10:43We talk about the games every week, and I didn't know they were 3-2.
10:48But like, you talk about, okay, well, looking a little bit better against Tampa Bay, and
10:51then they survived the bad weather game against the Jets, and then looked a little bit better
10:55against the Raiders, but I do think that this game against the Chargers will be a nice reminder
10:58that it hasn't come that far just yet.
11:01But this defense looks legitimately pretty good, and there are a couple of things you
11:06can get excited about for Denver, just down the line.
11:09Although, again, 3-2 is wild to me.
11:12At 23, it's the Giants.
11:13I don't think this is a good football team, and if we were to stack up talent, I think
11:17this team would be below the Rams, the Titans, and probably Chicago, certainly Chicago.
11:24There is no aspect of the Giants game that is better than what Chicago has on defense.
11:28So if we were just doing talent ratings, yeah, the Giants are way the fuck back.
11:32But, credit where credit is due, that's a real win against the Seattle Seahawks.
11:37And it looks like they got a little something in this Tracy kid at running back.
11:42Daniel Jones at least was able to complete a few passes and move the football, and Brian
11:47D'Abel had a really good game plan.
11:50They are obviously a well-coached team.
11:51And this is one of the things I'm going to start focusing on with the Giants.
11:55If this season doesn't go well, which is to say, if it goes the way people expect it
11:59to, there, already, you would hear, and I listen to a lot of New York media, um, so
12:05maybe I'm just a little bit more focused on that part of it, but you're already hearing
12:09at least from some fans or whatever that, yeah, you know what, after this year, clean
12:13full house.
12:14Get everyone out of there.
12:15It's like, no, no, no, no, no.
12:16Like, look, I get the, they let Saquon go, and some of the hard knock stuff didn't look,
12:20didn't inspire a ton of confidence.
12:22But, I think Brian D'Abel is legitimately a very, very good, at least offensive mind,
12:27and I think probably a pretty good football coach.
12:29He got this team to the playoffs a couple of years ago.
12:32Like, fuckin' come on.
12:33Even with a bad schedule, or good schedule, depending on how you want to look at it, that
12:38should not be happening with this football team.
12:40So they, I think, um, would be making a big mistake if Brian D'Abel was to be let go.
12:47I think that this is a great coach, and like, looking at it from the Raider fan perspective
12:51here, if y'all let that guy go, pickin' him up TOMORROW.
12:55At 22, it is Jacksonville.
12:57They finally get the win, and I probably have them a little bit too high coming off of that
13:01win.
13:02Actually, I definitely have them a little bit too high.
13:04I think a little bit of it is still my perception of this team from the start of the regular
13:07season, and they're just, they are not that.
13:09This defense that I thought was supposed to be a strong point, just gave up 34 to the
13:13Indianapolis Colts.
13:15This is going to be a very tricky test for them.
13:18They have the advantage because they know how to handle all the London stuff.
13:22They've been doing it for years.
13:23They have a good grasp on how to do this, but I am very worried about what this offense
13:30is going to look like against that Chicago defense, and this defense for Jacksonville
13:36that is supposed to be, I think, probably a strength of this group, just simply hasn't
13:41been in a number of games for them, and so I wonder how they're going to respond to this.
13:46At 21, it's the Colts, so a little weird that I have Jacksonville behind Indy, even though
13:52that game was wild and Jacksonville gets the win, but with Joe Flacco, this team has put
13:55up back-to-back pretty good offensive performances, and that makes it 3 out of 5 where the offense
14:00has been rolling.
14:01I still have questions about this defense, C37 points to Jacksonville, but this is still
14:07a team that I think, when everything clicks offensively, there's a few pieces that actually
14:12make it work.
14:13I will admit, they are a team that I have, like, these two are teams that I have a real
14:17difficult time putting my finger on in terms of, what are you?
14:22Are you a bad team?
14:23I don't think you're a good team.
14:25Are you an average team?
14:27And I think that is where some of the talk we had from the other day, talking about how
14:30the league has gone to shit, I think has, these two teams fall into that, because I
14:39just, I watch them play football, and I'm like, you are below average football teams.
14:44But then, like, you look at it, and, like, you put them at the bottom, and it's like,
14:47well, no, they're ahead of them, and no, they're ahead of them, and no, they're ahead of them,
14:50and you start to work up, and all of a sudden, we're, like, they're in the 20s, still in
14:54the power rankings, but the high or low 20s, depending on how you want to look at that,
14:59and so we're getting close to mid-territory, and it's just, that is more the mid-sinking
15:04back down than them raising up, if that makes sense.
15:07At 20, it's the Cincinnati Bengals.
15:09You simply can't lose that game to Baltimore.
15:11I don't think we focused on that enough on the Monday recap.
15:14That is a really, really bad loss to the Baltimore Ravens, where you have the ball after a fumble,
15:21and this is a players not plays sort of a situation.
15:25What is the strength of the Cincinnati Bengals?
15:28Say it with me, passing.
15:30Burrow.
15:31Chase.
15:32Higgins was going in that game.
15:34Eoshavas is exclusively open in end zones, but you have a passing attack that gets you
15:40going.
15:41And I understand Burrow threw a very key interception in that game that cost them a field goal,
15:46but the strength of this team isn't running the football.
15:49Also, where is Baltimore?
15:51Kind of vulnerable.
15:52Pass defense.
15:54And so to run the ball three times into the offensive line and then go for a 55-yard field
15:57goal with a new holder is a decision that I should have made more of a note of on Monday.
16:04It's really, really bad football, and the Bengals have been playing some really bad
16:08football this year, and I have some faith in the coaching staff, but the defensive talent
16:14on this team has not stepped up in any form or fashion, and they are running out of runway
16:22very quickly to be taken seriously in the AFC this year.
16:27At 19, it's the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
16:29They get a tough loss on Thursday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons.
16:34I think we are seeing that this defense is vulnerable.
16:36I was going to say to higher-powered offenses, but it was also vulnerable against Denver.
16:41So who's to say?
16:42But this is one of those teams where it is a very inconsistent group.
16:46They look very good against the Philadelphia Eagles, and they look very bad defensively
16:51against, and just overall against Denver, and defensively against Atlanta.
16:56So it's a group that it is tough to kind of put your finger on what they are.
16:59At 18, it's the Chargers.
17:01We are fairly certain that this defense is good.
17:05This is still one of those, like you know how we do in the preseason, where it is, what
17:10is, like, what am I worried that I'm wrong about?
17:13This Chargers team is still like a 5% I'm worried I'm wrong about them, because I,
17:19in my mind, as Chris Harris calls it on the Harris Football Podcast, the fantasy football
17:23podcast, which is great by the way, he was a guest on this show when we first started
17:27and was actually incredibly helpful in me starting this whole thing after I got you
17:31know from 960, but in my mind palace, as he says, I view this as a strong defensive team
17:41that has a pretty good run game and a pass game that's for the shits, and Herbert is
17:47limping after every play in every game, and they have a couple pass guessing options that
17:52would be number three options on really good offenses, but happen to be in this spot, so
17:56they certainly exist.
17:58And the real good defense thing is all fine and dandy until they've played the Raiders,
18:04the Panthers, the Steelers, and the Chiefs.
18:07Now, holding the Chiefs to 17 points, as we have seen, I know like things have gone south
18:11for the Chiefs offensively, but there is still, I think, a good offensive team, and it's
18:18Patrick Mahomes, right?
18:19So holding the Holmes to 17 points is good, I think, but still, I don't think you've
18:25proven anything when the offenses you've played are the Steelers, the Raiders, and
18:29the Carolina Panthers.
18:30So there is still something in me that it's like, I don't know if I should be believing
18:34in this team as much as I am.
18:38At 17, it's the New York Jets.
18:40Talked about them a lot on yesterday's show, don't need to go too much in depth on it.
18:43They are facing a very important test in the next little bit, and we will see how they
18:49handle things with a new head coach.
18:50At 16, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
18:52Tough loss on Sunday night.
18:54I think it does kind of show that there are limitations with this football team, that
18:59offensively, we got excited about fields for a week, but the weapons, the play calling,
19:04and all of that, maybe do not lend itself to being a juggernaut for fantasy football
19:09or anything like that, but this defense is legitimately good, and it's banged up right
19:12now, and they're still only giving up 20 points to Dallas, so they are right in the
19:16middle.
19:17Dallas, at 15, again, banged up on defense, now a little bit banged up on offense, seems
19:21like they're making the right move in going with Rico Doudle at running back, but they
19:25are just one of those teams that we talked about, where it's just like, yeah, mid, just
19:30mid, right now.
19:31At 14, it's Seattle, and this is one, coming off of a loss against the Giants, maybe I
19:36could have bumped them down a little bit more, but this is another thing where we're talking
19:39about, can I, in all good conscience, put Seattle below, like, if you were just to walk
19:44up to someone on the street, and be like, hey, Seattle, top half team in the league,
19:50right now.
19:51I do think that there would maybe be a little bit of pushback, like 14 does seem maybe a
19:55touch high, given how not impressive they have looked in most games this season, but
20:01again, who are you putting ahead of them right now?
20:05Dallas?
20:06No.
20:07Pittsburgh?
20:08No.
20:09Jets?
20:10No.
20:11Chargers?
20:12No.
20:13I don't know.
20:14I don't know.
20:15I don't know.
20:16I don't know.
20:17I don't know.
20:18I don't know.
20:19I don't know.
20:20I don't know.
20:21I don't know.
20:22I don't know.
20:23I don't know.
20:24I don't know.
20:25I don't know.
20:26I don't know.
20:27I don't know.
20:28I don't know.
20:29I don't know.
20:30I don't know.
20:31I don't know.
20:32I don't know.
20:33I don't know.
20:34I don't know.
20:35I don't know.
20:36I don't know.
20:37I don't know.
20:38I don't know.
20:39I don't know.
20:40I don't know.
20:41I don't know.
