00:00As you know, this is the birthplace of many epic films, many of them depicting a vision

00:10of the future.

00:12We're here tonight to experience that future that is closer than you think.

00:17And who better than Elon to show us that future?

01:17So, when we think about transport today, there's a lot of kind of pain that we take for granted

01:31that we think is normal.

01:33Like having to drive around LA in like three hours of traffic.

01:38Yeah, people that live in LA, I mean, you know, try to get from Pasadena to El Segundo

01:46during rush hour.

01:48You can fly to, you know, another city faster than you can get to crosstown LA.

01:53So, and you have to drive the whole way, unless you're on a Tesla, of course.

01:57Our Tesla already does quite well at this, you know, supervised self-driving.

02:02So supervised full self-driving is actually working quite well.

02:06I'm sure there's people in the crowd, you're using that, yeah?

02:14So we'll move from supervised full self-driving to unsupervised full self-driving, where the

02:21car, you could fall asleep and wake up at your destination.

02:29But there's also a challenge for a lot of people that cars cost too much.

02:33I mean, when you factor in everything that goes into a car and the car insurance and

02:37the car payments and the storage of the car, it's very expensive.

02:42With autonomy, you get your time back.

02:45This is a very big deal.

02:47So it's not just a safe, like, it'll save lives, like a lot of lives, and prevent injuries.

02:54I think we'll see autonomous cars become 10 times safer than a human.

03:01And it's not just the lives saved in injuries, but if you look at the, think about the cumulative

03:05time that people spend in a car and the time that they will get back, that they can now

03:10spend, well, I guess, on their phones, or watching a movie, or doing work, or whatever

03:18you want to do.

03:20You can think of the car in an autonomous world as being like just a little lounge.

03:25You're just sitting in a comfortable little lounge, and you can do whatever you want while

03:30you're in this comfortable little lounge.

03:32And when you get out, you will be at your destination.

03:34Yeah, it's gonna be awesome.

03:39So in fact, I think the cost of autonomous transport will be so low that you can think

03:47of it like individualized mass transit.

03:52The average cost of a bus per mile for a city, not the ticket price, because that is subsidized,

03:58but the average price is about a dollar a mile.

04:02Whereas the cost of CyberCab, price including taxes and everything else, probably ends up

04:08being 30 or 40 cents a mile.

04:10So yes, and you won't be able to buy one.

04:15Yes, exactly.

04:21And we expect the cost to be below $30,000.

04:29And I think there'll be an interesting business model where, let's say somebody is an Uber

04:36or Lyft driver today, where they can actually sort of manage a fleet of cars, and like sort

04:42of manage, I don't know, 10, 20 cars, and just sort of take care of them like a shepherd

04:48tends their flock.

04:50You have a little flock of cars, and you're the shepherd, and you take care of your flock

04:54of cars.

04:55I think that'd be pretty cool.

04:57We're trying to give you a sense of what cities will be like in the future.

05:01And when you get in, you'll see it's really quite a wild experience to just be in a car

05:07with no steering wheel, no pedals, no controls, and it feels great.

05:13We have enough vehicles here, so everyone should be able to try it out and experience

05:18the set that we've built here.

05:20It's a very big set.

05:21So it's like really, we've used 20, 30 acres or something like that.

05:26It's really big.

05:27So it goes on, the ride's long.

05:31Something we're also doing is, and it's really high time we did this, is inductive charging.

05:38So the robotaxi has no plug.

05:42It just goes over the inductive charger and charges.

05:46So yeah.

05:47It's kind of how it should be.

05:52So that would be quite fantastic.

05:56Also, what happens if you need a vehicle that is bigger than a Model Y?

06:08The Robovin.

06:11The Robovin is, this is, we're going to make this, and it's going to look like that.

06:17Now can you imagine going down the streets and you see this coming towards you?

06:22That'd be sick.

06:26So this can carry up to 20 people and it can also transport goods.

06:30So you can configure it for goods transport within a city or transport of up to 20 people at a time.

06:38So this is going to, the Robovin is what's going to solve for high density.

06:44So if you want to take a sports team somewhere or you're looking to really get the cost of

06:52travel down to, I don't know, 5, 10 cents a mile, then you can use the Robovin.

06:58Some people call it the Robovan.

07:03So yeah.

07:04You know, one of the things we want to do, and you've seen this with the Cybertruck,

07:08is we want to change the look of the roads.

07:11The future should look like the future.

07:16And I think at scale, this would cost something like, I don't know, $20,000, $30,000.

07:24Probably less than a car is my prediction long term.

07:28It'll take us a minute to get to the long term.

07:33But fundamentally at scale, the Optimus robot, you should be able to buy an Optimus robot

07:39for I think probably $20,000 to $30,000 long term.

07:43And what can it do?

07:45It'll be able to do anything you want.

07:47So it can be a teacher, babysit your kids, it can walk your dog, mow your lawn, get the groceries,

07:53just be your friend, serve drinks.

07:57Whatever you can think of, it will do.

08:01And I think this will be the biggest product ever of any kind.

08:07Because I think everyone of the 8 billion people of Earth,

08:11I think everyone's going to want their Optimus buddy.

08:15And there's going to be maybe two.

08:18And then they'll be producing products and services.

08:22I predict actually, provided we address risks of digital superintelligence,

08:2980% probability of good outcome.

08:34Look on the bright side.

08:36The cup is 80% full.

08:38The cost of products and services will decline dramatically.

08:45And basically anyone will be able to have any products and services they want.

08:51It will be an age of abundance.

08:54The likes of which people have not, almost no one has envisioned.

08:58It'll be something special.

09:00Holy crap, my head is spinning.

09:02Here's me thinking a couple of products will be unveiled.

09:05Meanwhile, Tesla's gone absolutely ballistic,

09:08developed an entire studio on site at Warner Brothers,

09:11a next-gen vehicle, a dedicated robo-taxi with no steering wheel and pedals.

09:14We knew this was coming.

09:15Oh, and surprise, a van.

09:17Oh, wait, I called that as well.

09:18Oh, yeah, I'm patting myself on the back.

09:20I don't make these predictions for nothing.

09:21But this is a massive moment for Tesla,

09:23completely transforming their business from what people saw as a car company now

09:26to an AI-slash-transport-as-a-service company,

09:29never mind the humanoid robot, which holy shit.

09:32Bro, did anyone expect to be walking among optimists?
