The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is one of the most capable and well-regarded military forces in East Africa, with a significant role in both regional security and international peacekeeping. While Kenya’s military is not among the world’s top-ranked forces, it is a key player on the African continent. Below are the main factors that influence Kenya’s military ranking:

1. Size and Manpower:
Kenya’s military has an estimated 24,000 active personnel across the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Although not large by global standards, it is one of the better-equipped and more professional militaries in East Africa.
2. Regional Influence and Operations:
Kenya’s military is one of the most active in regional security efforts. The KDF has been heavily involved in counterterrorism operations, especially against the terrorist group Al-Shabaab in Somalia, as part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Kenya's intervention in Somalia since 2011 (through Operation Linda Nchi) has been a significant demonstration of its military capabilities.
