00:00Well, and I'll tell you he's starting to make an impact on this championship big-time
00:14Alton Park two weeks ago saw Vincent Rademacher equal his best ever
00:18BTCC score of second position
00:21After an incident packed race. He managed to hold off the whole field except for Alan menus for like years
00:27some some like who don't buy very exciting and very
00:31dangerous
00:36What's a blanket Silverstone with all that added weight I
00:40Don't know because I didn't have any weight penalty before so
00:45It's good news for me to have weight penalty because it means that you have a good weather the weekend before so
00:51I'm looking now to this rest to see if
00:54If it will be a problem or not, so I will tell you after after Sunday race
01:08Okay, so it's down to penalties and our guide is BTCC self-appointed team captain Gabriele Tatuini
01:15Vincent Rademacher scored a 30 kilo penalty after Alton Park Reid's got Scotland's hopes on his shoulders with 20 kilos of balance
01:24And Jason Plato might have to settle for a midfield role with 30 kilos
01:31Now menus win at Alton Park could prove an own goal as it hands him a 40 kilo penalty
01:40As for Gabriele, well, he doesn't have a penalty at all but with a name like that at least he should be able to play
01:45football
01:47And
01:53His teammate Tom Christensen is carrying weight
01:57He's had a slow start of the season. But after his win at Alton Park, he now has 40 kilograms to carry around
02:03So he'll have to have his eyes firmly on the ball
02:06It's very important to get the first win in and especially in a tough championship like this
02:11It has done a lot of good, especially
02:13for the hard-working mechanics and
02:16For my mind as well
02:19Big result, but what a nerve-wracking win
02:22I hit some debris of the brake discs of Riedel we had found out which hit the sump. I came over
02:29over the small hill and
02:32Offline and there was some debris of Riedel's in fourth lap to the end
02:35So for sure, I was pretty pretty scared and I'm told that when they came back to the workshop
02:40there's half a litre of oil left in the engine, so
02:43It was close
02:46One man who won't be carrying any success ballast this weekend is Peugeot front-runner Alan Morrison
02:51And the reason for that is quite simple. He had a nightmare of a weekend last time out at Alton Park
02:55However help us in hand or should I say competition?
03:001991 BTCC champion Will Hoy adds to the star-studded lineup in this championship
03:06He returns this time in a Class B Peugeot
03:09well, I was he very pleased to be back in the British Touring Car Championship is the premier category in Britain and
03:15I'm very pleased that the touring car VIP club have asked me to drive. What is now their second car
03:19it's a great car to drive and I've just had a you know now just one day or half day of testing and
03:25It's it's a huge amount of fun to drive. I'm here to help Alan Morrison win and
03:31He has a problem. I'm not gonna hold back. I'm gonna be out there and going for a win
03:35So it's a team effort from that point of view. We're not going to trip over each other
03:39I hope mind you I've have a history of falling over team or teammates falling over me
03:43Including at Silverstone when Julian Bailey and I had a bit of a coming together when we were first and second at
03:48Silverstone at the Grand Prix support meeting. That was a classic when I ended up in my roof
03:53Huh, and he went out with damage as well. So that won't happen again. I'm sure I don't think so. Anyway
03:59And with all the Morrison's main rivals absolutely loaded to the gunnels with weight this weekend in theory should be a good one for the
04:06Peugeot team, let's have a look at qualifying
04:09Now for will Hoy it was he had a dream session putting his Peugeot in front of the rest of the class B cars
04:17While teammate Morrison has to start at the back after suffering electrical problems
04:22Matt Neal seemed to be going well
04:24But got thrown to the back for the feature race due to a technical infringement as did Gabriele Tarquini in the Honda
04:32The boards were suffering with this excess ballast more than usual and menu only managed seventh for the feature
04:39it
04:41Was shaping up as a good day for Thompson in the Honda
04:45The bridal found a blistering pace and without any weight. He managed to snatch pole for both races
04:52Never mind, though. Jimmy T still starts on the front row for the sprint race. So it ain't all bad, but hats off to that Swede
05:01In a very good weekend for us, especially after Alton Park with two non finishes
05:04So I'm really glad to be on pole boat session
05:06We know that we have to work hard and then we know that we have to do perfect job to win races for sure
05:14Silverstone is a something-for-everybody
05:16Sort of drivers track from the tight twiddly parts of the complex to Beckett's where you're going really quickly breaking off balance and also
05:23Corners that carry a lot of speed through them like this one bridge corner. You're really flying through here on it
05:29Yeah, it's a great corner that one. It's it's taken in fifth gear and
05:33Not quite flat we've got to lift off it's probably could be flat but the problem is
05:38Comes for the next corner, which is prior your left-hander
05:40If you carry too much speed through that one
05:42Then you'll find yourself on the wrong line for the left-hander into priority
05:45Yeah, and then you could be in all sorts of problems
05:47So it's better to keep the car in the middle of the track
05:50so you're able then to come all the way all the way on the right hand side to have the right time for priority, but
05:55it's a
05:56Interesting corner problem for this track though is what you could call weight sensitivity
06:01You've been carrying weight all year and done really well, but you're finding it difficult. Yeah, I mean, I've got 40 kilos again and on that track
06:08We've got more of a problem than we usually have I think it's because you've got like you said
06:13You know, we've got some fast corners and slow ones
06:15But there are quite a few slow corners and we lose out on the braking and then on acceleration. So it's
06:20We do a problem. So I didn't qualify as well as I wanted to race craft will count
06:31If
06:33At first you don't succeed try again
06:35That's exactly what James Thompson in the Honda is going to be doing trying again to win a race
06:39Although I tipped him as the guy to win the championship
06:42Amazingly, he's the only Honda man never to have bagged a win now
06:45He had problems earlier the year the big crash at Brands Hatch didn't help him
06:49But even so this afternoon, he'll be desperate to bag something
06:51This is his best opportunity because he's on the front row of the grid. This however is the problem he faces
06:57This is Ricard Rodel in the Ford Ricard is blisteringly fast around here. He's actually the pole man for both of our races
07:03So John Watson, the key to this is going to be the drag into the first corner
07:07Thank You Charlie
07:08Well Honda's got plenty of poke in a straight line
07:11But Ricard Rodel's got the advantage of carrying no ballast here this weekend for the 15 lap sprint race on
07:17Silverstone's International Circuit on Road 2 Anthony Reid in the second Mondeo and Gabriele Tarquini in his Honda
07:25Tom Christiansen and Alan Menue make up row 3
07:28Then we've got the two voxels Jason Plato and Yvanne Muller on row 4 with lead independent Matt Neil and Vincent Rademacher on row 5
07:35Colin Blair and his Nissan and then the lead and returnee Will Hoy in the Peugeot
07:40Mark Glamour and Robert Collard on row 7 Nick James a newcomer and James K in row 8 and finally after a torrid qualifying
07:47Alan Morrison
07:50The revs are up ready for a start Rydell away very quickly brilliant start by Ricard Rydell, but Alan Menue is stuck
07:58It's Menue stuck in the middle of the grid everyone's funneling around him problems with his clutch
08:02Okay, bad news for him. His teammate though is out in front. That's Ricard Rydell
08:06Good start for Tarquini as well. He's held on there in second place Anthony Reid in the Ford really harrying in third
08:14Down into Becketts for the first time
08:16Tarquini Reid right behind then Thompson's in the second of the Honda starting to really push here comes Yvanne Muller
08:22Here's the view from Yvanne Muller Jason Plato ahead of us
08:35Great news on your first lap
08:37Yvanne Muller trying to get the car as straight as possible for the start of course Woodcott
08:41It is a band and Muller got caught out talk about getting caught out Matt Neal getting a bit of a push
08:46They're almost getting caught out by Vincent Rademacher in the Vauxhall coming down into Abbey the cars almost stopped there
08:55Tarquini second place on board with him now trying to find a way past Ricard Rydell an absolute lunge flying there through bridge corner
09:02We walked through there before with Alan Menue. You saw how quickly you go through there. There's a quick way in
09:08Side by side into the complex, that's not really helping him though
09:11Because Anthony Reid is now up into the chase right behind Tarquini. Tarquini is challenging
09:15Tarquini is side by side a hip and shoulder from Tarquini into the side of Rydell's door
09:20Rydell pushed wide now Anthony Reid in the second of the Ford just trying to pick up on Rydell
09:25That's the view back from him big pass there Ricard Rydell
09:28He opened the door to Tarquini. Tarquini didn't need a second invitation
09:32He put the nose inside pushed Rydell out and he's got the lead
09:36Very firm stuff and it's really concerted at second place back there. There's the view of it
09:41You can see now Rydell trying to regroup work at what's going on stretching his head reads right behind him
09:46Thompson's got his tail up and so is Jason Plato and Yvonne Muller and the pair of those Vauxhalls
09:51They're all over the back of Thompson. Now. Here's the view from Anthony Reid third place
09:55He's really starting to bring Rydell under big pressure
09:58As I come out of Beckett's they got the run down into Abbey a favorite overtaking place of Anthony Reid. Remember those distant days
10:06Rydell under brakes
10:08Anthony Reid his teammate is actually nerfed him in the back of the car. That's custom places as well
10:13Look right now
10:14It's just lost a place already to James Thompson in the Honda Honda is streaking ahead
10:18Two Fords are now both losing position Anthony Reid still trying to hold on now
10:23He's coming under pressure from Jason Plato. Jason Plato moves down the inside all that contact you like moving into the complex
10:29That's pushed us further back. I'm getting a headache. This is going very very badly for Jason. He's just lost a spot to his teammate
10:35He's just lost a spot to read and now he's been shut it up as well
10:39I think that was a Honda maybe Christensen Thompson Plato on the infield
10:46Yes master bits indeed what a pummeling
10:53That whole episode started in Prairie, but it ended up in Brooklyn's and it's poor Jason Plato
10:58He got clipped in the left rear by Tom Christensen broken suspension out of this race
11:03Action of plenty in the opening three laps and there's more action. I can't believe that's somebody off. I can't see who dust everywhere
11:09There's the view from Mark Laskar. I can't see they're passing somebody. That's a Honda limping. That's Tarquini
11:15That's Tarquini. He was our race leader. Tarquini has gone off. There's the new race leader
11:20Rickard Rydell Tarquini must have just fallen off on his own. There was nobody else around him
11:24He must have gone to the cops a little bit too hot and there we see Alan Menuhin his race is over as well
11:29Okay, let's delve into it as quickly as possible. Well, it's all bad news
11:34You can hear the pit crew. They're talking to Alan Menuhin park it up forget about it, but talk about action stations
11:39Let's try to regroup Rickard Rydell. You can see him disappearing off into the distance there
11:43He's having a fabulous run Anthony Reed is working his way back through the field after all the shenanigans down there in Abbey
11:48There's Alan Menuhin
11:50It just didn't work from the start, did he?
11:52In fact, it was even worse at the start because he didn't have a chance to get out of the pit
11:56In fact, it was even worse at the start because he spun on his warm-up lap and that almost told him not even take up his grid position
12:03Yeah, that was nature trying to tell him forget that race all together
12:05Now here's another race in itself Matt Neal and Vincent Rademacher. Rademacher in the red Vauxhall
12:10Now we're on board with another red Vauxhall and it's a Van Moeller and he's coming into the pits as well. That's his drive-thru
12:20Well, you wouldn't want to speed on your drive-thru would you that'd be just the end
12:23It's happened to some before but 40 mile an hour down the Silverson pit lane. It's a long long way now
12:28What he hears an explanation here. We are on board with Tarquini and we are going through Copse corner. Everything looks perfect
12:34He gets a good line into the corner
12:36I think he was just traveling too quick couldn't keep the car on track gets on the gravel, but look what happens
12:43Absolutely sideways right across the track. Dear me. That was Ricard Rydell
12:48Not a fag paper between them. Now, here's the view from Rydell's car
12:52Can't you see the car just?
12:54swings across the track
12:57Tarquini's in the pit lane. I think I need a cup of tea and a Becks and a good lie-down time for a rest
13:02Now here's that class B battle and there is Mark Lemmer just sliding down the inside of Alan Morrison
13:08These two have been working each other over all season long terrifically close racing between them
13:13This is the battle for second
13:14remember
13:15Morrison started on the back of the grid and he's doing a very good job and in this afternoon look at the speed of the
13:20Persia just outdrags the haunter down into Abbey
13:22But Mark Lemmer is not giving up and in fact Lemmer right now is the more aggressive of the two drivers
13:28Lemmer fighting back through Abbey corner Morrison's going to have to try to do that all over again
13:32We saw these pair do exactly the same thing at Knock Hill
13:35Side-by-side through the tricky parts of the circuit up there in Scotland now, they're doing it again
13:40Side-by-side under bridge corner side-by-side into the complex Morrison. Surely you've got the line and make it stick this time
13:47Unbelievable Emma's fighting back. He's like a snake. You just can't kill him. He won't die
13:53Hitting him over and over again. Lemma still hanging on
13:55Yes, but I think Morrison eyes by me got the nose in front has just got sufficient speed to pull away from the two hunters
14:02It's not okay behind lemon and there you see the Peugeot. It's a bunch of disappearing to the distance
14:07You need to come into the pit. You've been black flag black and orange flag. You need to come into the pit to fix your rear
14:14Bumper
14:15Horrible news there from Brad Joyce talking to his driver Rickard Rydell, and here's the reason why he's been black flag
14:24That's why Anthony Reed running into the back of Rydell's car and obviously now the bumpers off
14:29Paperworks gonna be hell after this
14:31Well, it'll be interesting to see what excuse Anthony comes up with this time for hitting his teammate
14:36It's the view back from Rickards car
14:39It's pretty firm
14:41Yeah
14:41I think Rick I would have felt that one and of course that's what the damage to that rear bumper was done
14:46Not on the first up with talk really here's the damage because it's cost Rickard Rydell this lead
14:50And as you can see from the footage and even cost Anthony read a place
14:54At the point when that happened that it is appalling luck for Rickard Rydell
14:58He was the pole man remember and he's been leading this race almost all the way through now. He's in the pit
15:04Right, I'll got the black and orange flag and that meant he had to come into the pits
15:09Look at it dragging in the ground a bit of plastic, but nonetheless sufficient to bring him in and lose him even more position
15:15Here's a bloke that's made some position James Thompson
15:17He is now our new race leader because his teammate talk when he chucked it at the scenery earlier now Rickard Rydell has been brought
15:23into the pits
15:26To get that offending bumper off pretty quick
15:29Yes, but of course all the damage is done on the time taken to come in get the bumper off and get back out in
15:35Of course and get back up to speed him in in a 15 lap race. It's just a nightmare
15:39Well, we saw the Fords at play now. Here are the Peugeots at play
15:42This is the class B battle they are dicing for the class B lead the pair of them
15:47That's will boy making a return to British touring cars
15:50In the lead of the Peugeots and Morrison who's come from the back of the field work all his way through is now all over
15:55Bumper and Hoy doing a very good job on his return. And in fact, I'm surprised
15:59He's actually showing up Alan Morrison, but Morrison now that he's got ahead of those two hunters. He's doing the job
16:04But he should have been doing all year
16:06Look behind them. Here's our race leader James Thompson in the works on there as well. He's coming down on these two class beaver
16:12Oh, we have splits them
16:15Unwelcome guest at a cocktail party
16:17They both may cry the side of the track and let him through on board of the way now and Morrison slips through there as well
16:22So Morrison takes the class B lead will is in second position through Abbey
16:25And there is Anthony Reid in the works Ford in second position
16:30Chasing up over the hill behind James Thompson now on board with Gabriele Tarquini now
16:35He's trying to work his way back through the field. Remember he led the race for a bit before throwing it away at Cops Corner
16:41He did all the hard work getting past Rickard Rydell at the end of that one
16:45Throwing it away like that Gabriele is not going to do you very many favors
16:50Now he's trying to work his way back up
16:52He's chasing Vincent Rademacher the visitors flying the flag for Vauxhall because his two teammates both had problems
16:59Jason Plato as we know punted into infield right here in the center of the complex
17:04And Yvonne Muller the lead man, if you like in the Vauxhall team earning himself a drive-through penalty on lap one
17:10So a very frustrating race the first one of the day, but a frustrating one for Vauxhall
17:14Here's the view from Vincent's car
17:16He is in fifth position and he's closing up now on the class B battle that is Will Hoy
17:21We're just sliding through on the inside of Cops and ahead of us Morrison
17:27Just want to slip through there in time, I don't think he was spotted
17:30I think Morrison missed that and he suddenly pulled back very quickly
17:34Rademacher under pressure from Tarquini didn't need a little scare like that
17:38Tarquini very quick to jump at any opportunity given to him
17:41Well, you can see it actually affected Alan Morrison's speed it must have given him a fright and he lifted just momentarily off the throttle
17:47It was Will Hoy that we are riding with now is all over his boot lid
17:51There's another boot lid being all over it as well. That's Tarquini and he's really closing on Rademacher now. He still wants a race
17:57Yes, he does. He really saw an opportunity with Morrison. Rademacher was a little bit apprehensive
18:03But Tarquini is now on the boot lid of Vincent Rademacher. Plenty of power in that Honda up the hill from Abbey
18:09It's quite a steep hill and Vincent's got to defend as they move into the complex
18:15Now on board with Will Hoy all sorts of problems, but very silent
18:19I thought the camera had got done first, but something has gone wrong
18:22It looks as if he's got a tire or something. He's lost control of the car
18:25Really on the grass now pulling off. That's the end of the day for Will Hoy. Yeah, no engine though
18:31Something's conked out there under the bridge. Bad luck on his return. He was leading and he was the pole man
18:36Well, if you look under the car, there's liquids. It's like the Torrey Canyon underneath. That looks like a major engine failure
18:42Well, that'll be oil right on the apex of a very important corner going into the complex
18:47So we'll have to watch for that as this race unfolds on board with Tarquini. That's Rademacher. That was the boot lid you were talking about, John. Watch it.
18:54Oh, look at that. It's like a, it's like a Honda jelly mold, isn't it, in the back of that Vauxhall. Very neat imprint of a Honda in the back of Vincent Rademacher's car, but Vincent holds the place.
19:04It's the kind of move that's going to give Vincent a complex. It doesn't need to be hit any more in this race.
19:08Indeed. Well, here is, uh, it hasn't worked for him so far and here is Tarquini's teammate, James Thompson. Remember, he is now our race leader.
19:16He's a bit lucky, but then again, he's had some bad luck this year.
19:19It's been a terrible season and Thompson really, when he's in the lead, is sublime and that's what we're seeing from him now.
19:24Clearly Tarquini using that maneuver he used on Riccardo Rydell so effectively at the start of the race.
19:30I think a tiny bit of contact there as well for Rademacher on the way through.
19:34But the problem is Tarquini is so charming after the race, you can't get angry with him.
19:38Let's hope that charm works for him when he explains his off from lead position all on his own to his team mates later on.
19:46Now, he's moving way, way from us now.
19:49He's still running out to the very edge of the corner out of Copse. He's got two wheels almost in the gravel.
19:55Just proving to us, it does actually work as a line as long as you don't fall completely off.
19:59Next target for him is Matt Neal, but he is fast running out of laps.
20:03Yes, this is the last lap, but of course Tarquini has got the momentum and Matt Neal is just another target.
20:08So, coming into Abbey, will he do it again?
20:11Race leader, James Thompson, it's all looking very, very comfortable now.
20:15Just a couple of corners, just has to hang it together and get across the line.
20:19A huge margin for error, making it look easy now.
20:22Yeah, you can see him in the pace. He's dropped the pace altogether.
20:25He's not under pressure from behind.
20:27Anthony Reid in the first of the Mondeo is really unable to come back.
20:31Now, it is just a run to the line.
20:35Great news for James Thompson. He really needed a win, but as he goes across the line to celebrate,
20:40you cannot help feeling sorry for Richard Rydell,
20:44who was brought in black flagged because of problems with the car when he was in the lead.
20:49But great drive from James, right up there.
20:51Kept everybody honest, picked up the places when they came his way,
20:54and boy, he does deserve some good luck.
20:57Anthony Reid in second place, perhaps a controversial result.
21:00Tom Christensen didn't see much of him, but he's up there in third position.
21:03Matt Neal, great finish for him, the independent in fourth.
21:06And Gabriele Tarquini, hero to zero and back to fifth position.
21:10Not a bad result under the circumstances.
21:12Vincent Rademacher, as I said, flying the flag for Vauxhall.
21:15Then Ivan Muller, Richard Rydell, Blair, and then Morrison in the Class B makes the top ten.
21:27Yeah, obviously, a touch fortuitous, but the way my season's been going,
21:31I'll take it as it comes at the moment.
21:33Obviously, we've got no testing in on Friday,
21:35and so we tested through the qualifying session,
21:38and we're very pleased with the second qualifying session.
21:42Got us on the front row.
21:43And, yeah, great performance.
21:45Very pleased for Honda.
21:46Chalked my first win of the year, and hopefully finally start the ball rolling.
21:51But Mr. Consistency, Anthony Reid, well, he just keeps on keeping on.
21:55Moves into the lead of the championship, even though he's yet to win a race.
21:59You've got to look at the big picture in this kind of championship,
22:02the British Touring Car Championship.
22:04I've done it for a few years.
22:05Consistency does certainly help, but really to turn things around,
22:09I'm going to have to look for a couple of wins in the near future,
22:12because there are drop scores to take into account.
22:15Basically, at this stage, it's anyone's championship.
