In Gaza, instruments are in short supply but the music carries on.

Amid the struggle for the basics of life, one teacher believes that music can bring hope to the children of Gaza. Manufacturing instruments from whatever he can find, he has formed a group to play together and offer an escape even to those badly injured in the conflict.

00:00My name is Mohamed Nahra Baida, I'm 14 years old.
00:10I'm the teacher of the Nay family, Osama Aouni Jahjouh, from the city of Gaza.
00:20Before the war, I was the teacher of the Nay family.
00:28I was the teacher of the Nay family in the Edouard Saeed Institute of National Music.
00:34After the war, we were displaced from the coastal camp in the city of Gaza to the city of Yonis.
00:42When we arrived here, we started to gather the students and draw joy on them.
00:48They were children who were afraid of the bombing and destruction.
00:53So we gathered the students, and as you can see, they are in a tent.
01:01I was displaced from the Jabalia camp.
01:04After the war, the school was bombed.
01:07I was standing at the door of the bathroom, and the bomb hit me in the hand.
01:13I went to the hospital, and they hit me.
01:19Here you go.
01:28I didn't think of the idea of a barbis or a water hose.
01:34I came up with the idea of making music that is 100% audible.
01:44So I decided to make a barbis.
01:49I tried to dig holes in it and give it to the students.
01:55It was a successful experiment.
01:57In the morning, we return the music to the violin.
02:03Because the return of the music needs two hands, and the violin needs one hand.
02:09This is a peace instrument.
02:11The only music that you can communicate with the whole world through.
02:16I and Moeen will play it again.
02:39I return to you, my love, I return to you.
02:44I return to you, my love, I return to you.
02:51I challenge my injury, and I want to keep playing the violin.
02:56I want to finish the war, so I can open the borders,
02:59so I can travel abroad, and I can get my hands back on my shoulders.
03:04So I can play the violin again, and on any instrument I want.
03:09This life will continue.
03:11I hope that God will calm our minds, and the war will end,
03:16and we will try to build life again.
