'Frasier’s' Showrunners Explains The ‘Organic Way’ They Brought Roz Back For Season 2, But I’m Especially Touched By Peri Gilpin’s Experience With Her New Co-Stars

00:00Kelsey, obviously, and Perry have such a great relationship.

00:04It was always the idea that we would bring her on a little bit more.

00:08First season, it felt like, boy, we really just want to...

00:11Obviously, we did bring her in for the last episode,

00:13but we wanted to make sure that we established our own characters first.

00:17And then also, we wanted to make sure we had an organic way to bring her in,

00:19that it wasn't just suddenly felt like we were just jamming in

00:24a character from the old show for no reason.

00:27And so, Joe and Kelsey and I, we all worked together to make sure that

00:33there was a natural reason.

00:34And what we came up with is that

00:37Roz's daughter, Alice, is now studying at RISD in Providence, not too far away.

00:42So she is going to be around in Boston more.

00:45And we actually get to take advantage of that in some fun ways,

00:48where Alice, in a couple episodes,

00:52starts to become a little bit part of the group.

00:55And we get to explore even more this next generation

00:58of characters from the original series.

01:00What was it like for you building a dynamic with all these new people on the show?

01:04It was very fun and very different with each person.

01:07And they were really, really friendly and open as human beings,

01:12and also wonderful actors who, you know,

01:15immediately, we started to try to find ways to connect as,

01:19you know, from their point of view and from mine.

01:22It's been a great time.
