00:00As Tristan walks backwards, I need you to put your hand on him.
00:14Camera rolling.
00:15Rolling.
00:16Camera speed.
00:17Action.
00:18I'm really impressed with the young filmmakers here, and equally impressed with the support
00:25system they have.
00:26The ultimate goal is to have the youth make a film, from the writing stage to the editing,
00:32and then share it with the community.
00:33How can we service K-12 in a very strategic way to supplement the schools?
00:42Let's do a film fest.
00:46It turns those youth around.
00:49The ones that are real quiet, pretty soon they're outgoing, and, you know, it's making
00:53a difference in their lives.
00:56It's really cool to encourage the younger kids, or the kids that don't really do much,
01:01to come out and try it.
01:02I've learned how to work a camera, and lighting, some acting tips.
01:07This is the first time I've done any of this, and it's a pretty fun experience.
01:12So this is a very specific tool for the film industry.
01:15It's called a C-stand, a century stand.
01:18It makes them feel like they're a part of something, something very powerful.
01:23The young people were innately curious.
01:26They all had an original point of view, and they all saw the world in pictures.
01:32You have youth that have never touched a video camera, or maybe they've used their phone.
01:36They're at a level where they're brand new to the process.
01:38They're coming in.
01:39They're writing a story in pre-production, coming up with their own story.
01:43We're not there giving them, this is a story you have to do.
01:45They come up with their own.
01:46They're finding the actors.
01:47Who do they want in front of the camera?
01:49They're learning how to do the sound, how to operate the camera on that production,
01:53and then they're going into the editing process and learning that.
01:58The world premiere is the culminating event.
02:01They're going to show their film to the world.
02:06It was just awesome, the scene that they shot for like maybe an hour, and the kids were
02:12so proud, and they were beaming.
02:14Get into it, make its actual call, so it can make it look as realistic as possible.
02:19Oh, this is a good movie.
02:24It was scary, but it was like the actual real thing.
02:27Our seniors that are graduating this year, almost every one of them is going to college.
02:33Native communities that want to do this, you can do it.
02:38We have to invest in them, and this is a good way to do it.
