00:00So we're here in Hensford, and you're a hypnotherapist?
00:04Yeah, absolutely, that's what I do.
00:06I nearly said that right, didn't I? A hypnotherapist.
00:09What's your name?
00:11My name's Emma Kirkham.
00:12How long have you been in this game then, Emma?
00:14So, I qualified in May 2023.
00:20And what was it that kind of got you into it? We were having a little chat off camera.
00:24You were fascinated after seeing it at a younger age on TV, yeah?
00:29Yeah, that's correct. So I'd watched Paul McKenna for many years on TV,
00:34and I was fascinated with how he could access the subconscious mind
00:39and help people use that to do amazing things.
00:42Yeah. So how do you use the skills that you've got now then?
00:46What kind of, you know, are you helping people?
00:49Yeah, so I use the hypnotherapy to help people, mainly with grief and loss,
00:56and it's about helping them to move through that period
01:01so that they don't feel stuck, so they feel more confident,
01:04so they feel able to go out and do bigger and better, bolder things.
01:08Yeah. And it's not like a one session fixes all.
01:12One session can help, can't it?
01:14But often it takes a little while for you to build up a relationship with someone.
01:19Absolutely. So there can be just one session,
01:23and people will find a lot of relief just from one session.
01:26But quite often we work together over a period of time
01:29to actually dig deep and find out all of the things that have been blocking them
01:34so that they can do more of what they actually love doing,
01:37they can enjoy doing it a little bit more,
01:39and they can just feel better about themselves.
01:42Because that's why people come to me in the first place,
01:44is they just want to feel happier and better about themselves.
01:48And what would be a good length of sessions to have,
01:54if that's a way of putting it?
01:55I'm sure there's a better way of phrasing that.
01:57You say you prefer really the shorter the amount of sessions,
02:02the better because you're getting them to where they need to be sooner.
02:05Yeah.
02:06But what does it often take?
02:10Okay, so I recommend that we work together for around four to six sessions,
02:14and then obviously at the end of that time,
02:16we look at if they want to do more and work on something else,
02:19and if they've achieved that goal that they wanted to achieve
02:23by coming to the sessions in the first place.
02:25But we always find with one session they get an immediate relief,
02:28and then it's about working through the rest of the sessions
02:32to take them even further to where they want to be.
02:34Yeah.
02:35And the screens give it away.
02:38Modern technology comes into play in all this.
02:41Yes, absolutely, absolutely.
02:43So I do all of my hypnotherapy and heart healing online.
02:46Yeah.
02:47So it's easier for the client.
02:50Quite often the clients who are experiencing anxiety, burnout, or depression,
02:55they don't want to be thinking about going somewhere new.
02:58They don't want to be worrying about where they're going to park the car.
03:00They don't want to be worried about who they're going to bump into
03:03that they don't necessarily want to know that they're having hypnotherapy.
03:06So I do everything online,
03:08which means that the client can do everything from the comfort of their home.
03:12They can feel nice and relaxed afterwards.
03:15And when they're in that lovely relaxed state,
03:17they haven't got to think,
03:18all right, I need to get back in the car now and drive home.
03:20So it works beautifully.
03:22And it also means I can help people wherever they are in the world.
03:26And you've also mentioned a phrase there that was new to me until today,
03:30heart healing.
03:31Yes.
03:32So what's the difference between hypnotherapy and heart healing then?
03:35So heart healing is a modality in itself,
03:38and it basically works with the heart.
03:41The heart has an energetic frequency that's 5,000 times more powerful
03:46than working with the mind alone.
03:48So it's about combining the subconscious mind with the heart
03:53to have an all-round kind of approach to the healing journey.
03:59And it just means it goes that little bit deeper,
04:01and it works with the relationship at the heart of the issues that are taking place.
04:07So it's looking at the relationship that has caused those emotions to be coming up.
04:12And it is very much, isn't it?
04:14It's not those days on the TV of someone sitting in front of someone
04:18swinging a pocket watch.
04:21I was just going to say that.
04:22I don't need a pocket watch to do it.
04:24It's very much more of a deeper understanding about how the mind works,
04:29isn't it, really?
04:30Yeah.
04:31So can you, when you're a hypnotherapist,
04:34does that mean your life's amazing?
04:36You can work on yourself?
04:38Or does it not quite work like that?
04:41Do you have to kind of, if you were going to have somebody helping you,
04:46would that have to be someone external?
04:48Yeah.
04:49So I do have supervision myself.
04:51I do also have hypnotherapy, my own hypnotherapy, my own heart healing.
04:56So I do constantly have help for myself
05:00because I believe to make a difference myself,
05:05I always constantly have to be improving.
05:08So I'm constantly learning,
05:10but I'm also constantly having hypnotherapy or heart healing sessions myself.
05:15So you used to be a glass artist, which is a very creative process,
05:20but it must be very rewarding what you're doing now, you know,
05:23to think that your daily job is helping people kind of get to their full potential.
05:28That's quite rewarding, isn't it?
05:29It's really rewarding.
05:31And for me, it's about knowing I'm making a difference
05:34because it's not only impacting the person that comes to me,
05:37it's impacting their families and friends as well.
05:39Because obviously they're changing their relationship with themselves,
05:44obviously changing who they are as a person
05:46and the way they see the outside world.
05:48That's also going to impact their families, their friends,
05:52and the relationship they have with other people.
05:54So it's deeply rewarding because it's not just about the person that comes to me,
05:58it's about the impact it has on everybody rippling out.
06:01So if people want to find out a bit more about yourself and what you can offer,
06:05how do they get in touch? Where do they find out more?
06:08So they can go on the good old internet,
06:11www.learn.emmakirkham.co.uk is where you can find more information.
06:17I'm also on social media, Emma Kirkham, and you can find more about me there,
06:21whether that's Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, you can find me there.
06:25Great stuff. Thank you, Emma.
