00:00Today, fourth in Lombardia. Is this business as usual or a special one because you wear this jersey and it's 48 km solo this time?
00:11I mean every victory is special and today also because the team worked so hard all year for all the victories we achieved and today is no different.
00:24It was a big day for us, a long race, a hard race and it was all dependent on our team so I think we did a super good job and I'm super happy to win with the team.
00:39Sometimes you improvise the tactic. This attack today, was it planned? Was it the best place to go?
00:46Yeah, we planned this like this because the race is so hard that in the end the last 40 km is more or less man to a man and I knew if I have a decent gap on the top I can manage to come to the finish but you never know if it happens or not.
01:09You had a decent gap but you have extended this gap until more than 3 minutes on the best time trial in the world, Remco Evenepoel.
01:17Yeah, I think there was a moment where he was like after the downhill he falls down, it was really fast and then a little bit up and down and there where I tried to push to gain a little bit more seconds to also win the mental game on this chase so I tried to push as hard as possible and then I think it was one by one to the finish anyway.
01:44What went through your mind in the last 10 km?
01:47I was just enjoying the crowds and I'm looking forward to off-season.
01:54At the beginning of your career you didn't want to hear much about history. Do you realise where you are in the history after this win today?
02:02Let's see where we will be after the career.
02:05Thank you very much.
02:06Remco, this morning you said that being realistic you were racing for second place. Do you consider yourself a winner somehow?
02:15Yeah, honestly it feels a bit like a personal victory. I think everybody knows the last time that I raced from Bergamo to Como how it ended and now finishing as best of the rest feels like a personal victory and it makes me really proud.
02:33I'm not going to say emotional because I'm quite over the moment of four years ago but I need to be honest and it feels really good to be second today.
02:43It wasn't a surprise that Tadej Pogacar attacked on Sormano. What was happening in between you guys at that time?
02:52We kind of knew and predicted how and where Tadej would go. We knew that the three kilometres after the bridge where I crashed four years ago was the hardest of the climb and that's also where he went.
03:07I just did my own pace to the top to try and take some advantage on the others and try to limit the time loss towards Tadej. I knew the descent pretty well so I just went flat out in the descent and I dropped the others.
03:23Then it was like a time trial towards the finish line and I was actually dying on San Fermo in the last few kilometres but I think the gap was made by then and I just had to consider.
03:37It was a bit of a 1v1 and I think everybody saw again who is the best rider of the moment and just a deserved winner of the day.
03:45Being on the podium, does it give you the confirmation that this is a race you have to win?
03:50Yeah, I mean it's let's say one of my first good results in Italy. It feels good to do the race without any problems, without any bad luck and just with a good feeling.
04:02I'm just a bit unlucky that there's a great phenomenon ahead of me but like you say this gives some confidence and good morale to try and come here with a better shape and try to go for the win.
04:16So yeah, it's a perfect way to end my season with and I'll just try to enjoy it.
04:23Italy has many more races for you to come back. Thank you very much.
04:28Giulio, how does it feel to stand on the podium of a monument with the World Champion and the Olympic Champion?
04:35For sure the feeling is really good and I think it's a good way to finish the season.
04:43Especially for me, this year was a really hard season for me and now I really would like to enjoy the off-season and just recharge the energy for the next year.
04:57Tell us about the finale, how you found yourself in contention for the third place when you came back to this group?
05:05My feeling today was really good on the climb and maybe I did a mistake when I tried to attack because the tempo was already really fast.
05:17Then I paid just the last 2k of Sormano but then I was there with Bauke, he did a really good job and then the final on San Fermo I just went all out and I said I'll go full gas to the top.
05:37I was alone so I just went straight to the finish line.
05:41Have you taken the others by surprise to make it to the third place?
05:46I don't know what was the situation there, maybe they were just looking at each other and I went straight.
05:54When I understood there was a good gap I did a good downhill and then I really enjoyed the last kilometer.
06:02Angry for more? For winning in Lomardia one day?
06:05It's always my dream, like I said it's one of my favorite races.
06:11Already a podium behind these guys, I would say it's already a good victory.
