00:00Okay, ladies, you've had your instructions in the dressing room, so you know what's expected.
00:07Keep your punches up, and pay attention to the set-up at all times. Good luck, ladies.
00:30Chapman in the black. Chapman setting up in that orthodox stance.
00:35Nicholson, a southpaw, and she uses that lead hand really, really well.
00:40She's got a good reach on her, and Chapman has got to get inside that jab.
00:45She has to find a way past that jab, or she will go the way of other opponents
00:51that have come up against Nicholson.
00:55She uses it very effectively, buries it up.
00:59We'll hang on that back foot.
01:02Already, Chapman's getting close to her. She's bobbing and weaving, coming underneath, staying low.
01:06A good shot there against Nicholson.
01:16I say this all the time, but I think when it's a southpaw, there's an orthodox.
01:20We're used to the orthodox, so she's quite comfortable just leaning back,
01:23looking like she's in range, but she's actually not.
01:26Raven's doing well by trying to trigger her to throw a shot, to quickly get in.
01:35You can see the way Nicholson there just hangs on that back foot.
01:38She's got quite a wide stance, which adds to what Tasha was saying there.
01:43Good single shot with the left hand there from Nicholson, as Chapman looks to try and come forward.
01:50Slipped under the jab nicely there, Chapman. Couldn't follow up on it.
01:57Raven's not particularly tall, but she has got very long levers,
02:01so she's got to keep that head movement going.
02:04Maybe go and go again, or do what she's doing, which is trying to draw something on and quickly shut the space down.
02:12Final 10 seconds of round one, not very much in this opener at all.
02:16Very little has been landed clean by either fighter.
02:21She's going to miss her both of the right at the end there.
02:43We made radiotherapy possible, so cancer couldn't stop his big day.
02:49We studied Jimma DNA to find better treatments, so she can see her girls grow up.
02:55We're finding new ways to outsmart cancer, so more people can hear.
03:02Together we are beating cancer.
03:12All right.
03:16That's a Nicholson corner, Eddie Lamb there leading it.
03:21She turns out of that eyeballs, Jim down in South London.
03:24Bradley Skeet involved as well, just looking on over the ropes there for Chapman.
03:30It's Stuart Scott.
03:33So into the second.
03:42I think the first round's always a bit nervy.
03:45Everyone's trying to work out the distance, work out the shots, work out your reactions.
03:50You should see it open up a little bit more in these next few.
03:56Nicholson just giving that ground ball to Terry, then looks to try and move off to a right, hooking as she does so.
04:01That's a signature move of hers.
04:04That one didn't really land.
04:07Chapman staying nice and low, keeping her hands off, moving her head as well.
04:10Looking for the right hook lead.
04:16Some of that movement of Chapman so far has been just a little bit too far out.
04:23So it hasn't really managed to work her into range.
04:26Part of that is due to the reach of Nicholson.
04:31That's better for Chapman, she got into range there, couldn't quite let her hands go.
04:39She's got to try and slip that jab as she's moving forward, which is a difficult thing to do.
04:43Yeah, well she's bobbing and weaving, so she's not a static target.
04:48And also with the head movement, she's triggering something from, trying to lure the lead of Nicholson.
04:53And once the head movement's gone, she's got to try and slip that jab.
04:57Trying to lure the lead of Nicholson.
04:59And once the lead comes, then she can get inside or underneath it and then quickly close the distance with her feet.
05:04But she doesn't want to lunge from too far out, she'll get picked off.
05:07So she's really trying to be an aggressive counter puncher.
05:10Nicholson to lead off.
05:14Nicholson let go with a left hand there.
05:16But again, I think it was just slightly short.
05:18Neither one of these two have really found their range yet through the opening two rounds.
05:24I'm not sure which way you would go with these if you were the judges at ringside, because not much has landed.
05:40That's the scene at the Kingdom Arena.
05:42And we're all set for what should be an absolutely spectacular fight.
05:46Top of the bill, Artur Betabeev against Dmitry Fibov.
05:49All of the belts at light heavyweight.
05:52We had the same scenario with Fury and Usyk, of course, earlier in the year.
05:56But something that's entertained me about this, Matt, is watching these two this week.
06:00We talked about it right at the top of the show.
06:02Unlike Fury and also Usyk, because they're these big kind of otherworldly men.
06:06These are two guys who, if you walk past them in the street, would look like normal people.
06:11But they are not normal people.
06:13Anything but.
06:15They're the two best light heavyweights in the world, probably by far.
06:18These are number one and two.
06:19And tonight we're going to find out who's number one.
06:21Tasha, what are your thoughts on the main event?
06:23I've not spoken to you about it this week, actually.
06:26I'm back and forth about 15 million times.
06:29And every time I talk about one, I think, right, that's definitely who I'm going to pick.
06:34I change it.
06:35And it makes a case for the other one.
06:37So I'm still unsure.
06:39Sitting on the fence again.
06:40Of course, of course.
06:41I don't want to be wrong again.
06:44So into the third round.
06:45Sky Nicholson, the WBC featherweight champion in the blue.
06:48Raven Chatman, the challenger in the black.
06:57I think Raven's doing the right thing, coming over.
06:59Because Sky keeps that lead hand really low.
07:01That was a good backhand.
07:03Chatman got close there and threw that short right hand.
07:06That did manage to find the target.
07:07Nicholson had pulled onto that back foot.
07:09But couldn't quite pull out of range.
07:14Chatman again just gets closer and wants to try and work for the body.
07:17Nicholson's trying to walk her onto that left hand.
07:19But she hasn't managed to time it.
07:21And I think that's because Chatman's head movement and bearing the pressure.
07:24That was a good shot there.
07:25She pulled it up.
07:26But that's the shot she's looking for.
07:28Commentators are scared, Stadman.
07:29Always.
07:30It was a sweet left hand, though.
07:31As you say, timed absolutely perfectly.
07:33Found the distance on it.
07:38You can see there, yeah, she's kind of almost goaded with the lead hand.
07:41Trying to walk her onto lunging.
07:43And then she's going to meet her with the backhand.
07:46But Chatman's got to be careful with that.
07:48She's got to use the feints, use the head movement.
07:50Don't become predictable.
07:52That was a good uppercut by Nicholson.
07:55It's been an interesting round, this.
07:57Chatman probably had the better of the first minute.
07:59But Nicholson has picked some really good punches in the second minute.
08:02And maybe just beginning to find that rhythm.
08:05Hooking on the way out again there.
08:07Maybe a little bit slappy, but it landed.
08:10Yeah, and also the constant head movement.
08:12The constantly twisting, changing, resetting.
08:15That takes a lot of energy.
08:17That will take a lot of energy out of Chatman.
08:19So as the rounds press on, that starts to dwindle a little bit.
08:22Chatman might find it even easier then to time her.
08:26She's just rushing herself a little bit and coming over the free spot.
08:31So, the end of the third.
08:34Coming up after this, we've got Chris Eubank Jr.
08:39Getting his hands wrapped there by Ian Gatt.
08:42Coming up against Kamil Jeremeta at middleweight.
08:47Happy to put footage up on social media yesterday, Matt.
08:50How difficult it was to make the weight.
08:52I was there at the lunchtime weigh-in.
08:54He arrived a little bit later than everybody else.
08:56Nothing scandalous, but he had his boxing boots on.
08:59So I could tell that he'd been working right up until the last minute.
09:02I don't think it's any secret that he's tight at the middleweight limit.
09:05I think that's a well-known fact.
09:07So, why hide it?
09:10It just sort of confirms it.
09:12And if it bothers you, then he's pretty upfront with it.
09:14He's a big middleweight.
09:20And just signs of the second half of that previous round
09:23that Nicholson was beginning to hit that groove and rhythm.
09:27And that's something that Chatman cannot afford to happen.
09:34When she goes, she's just got to commit that little bit of hesitation.
09:39Sky will be able to see.
09:59When Chatman does move in and close that gap,
10:02more often than not, she'll tend to lead off with a right hand,
10:06which makes it more difficult to reach, surely,
10:09moving in orthodox as she is,
10:11if she were trying to get to Nicholson.
10:13It's that lead left that's got the shortest distance to travel.
10:17Right hand there from Chatman,
10:18but Nicholson, again, is just managing to use that jab effectively so far this round.
10:22Nice left hand into the body there from Nicholson.
10:25Well, I think what she's doing, Raymond Chatman,
10:27she's almost stepping into a southpaw stance
10:29and then leading off with the right jab.
10:33She's got picked up there, so she's got to be careful.
10:35She doesn't want to get caught in no man's land.
10:37Either you're coming or you're not.
10:38If you're coming in, you've got to fully commit to it.
10:40And that's what I'm saying about the hesitation.
10:42Sky can see it and she's just picking it off with the uppercut, single shot hooks
10:47as she comes in, like we've just seen there.
10:49If you're going to go, you've got to kind of do the haggler way
10:51and just move in and commit with it.
10:56Final 30 seconds of round four.
10:59Very little in the first couple of rounds.
11:02Rounds three and four have maybe been Nicholson rounds.
11:04Looking for that jab again there.
11:06Although Chatman did start well in three,
11:08but there was a good left hand there again from Nicholson.
11:10She just took that half step back as Chatman was coming in
11:13and tagged her with the uppercut.
11:17Okay, let's go backstage in here for a big Fraser Clark.
11:22I love the sport, you know.
11:24I love the sport inside of two men getting in the ring
11:26and trying to outperform each other.
11:28Strip me away.
11:30Take everything away from me.
11:31You'll never take the love I have for this sport away from me.
11:34I love it.
11:35I love it.
11:36I love it.
11:37I love it.
11:38I love it.
11:39I love it.
11:40I love it.
11:41I love it.
11:42I love it.
11:43I love it.
11:44I love it.
11:45You'll never take the love I have for this sport away from me.
11:48This is my life.
11:49This is what I live, what I breathe, it's what I love.
11:51I can't wait to hit something.
11:52I feel really, I can feel it in my blood.
11:56I can feel it in my bones.
11:57I'm ready to go and do a job.
12:05Fraser Clark talking to us earlier in the week.
12:07He's up against Fabio Wardley.
12:09And Fabio Wardley arriving at the arena.
12:13walking into a dressing room right next to Fraser Clark, so he put the pair of them next door to
12:19each other, they'll be able to hear each other warming up through the wall, they'll be able to
12:23hear each other's music through the wall, it's not something that you typically see but I think it's
12:29something that the pair of them will probably see the amusing side of, they make a good pair
12:34outside of the ring and inside the ring, back at the end of March they gave us an extraordinary
12:42spectacle, into the fifth round here, Nicholson trying to pick that left hand,
12:48Chapman again as she comes in just crouching, throwing the right,
12:56Chapman needs to get in close and throw more than a single shot, she needs to have a little bit more
13:02first and third, punches and bunches, when Raven's got that space behind her or takes the middle,
13:07she hops off and takes the middle, she's got all day to be comfortable and get back in the
13:11middle and got space to move, a nice right hook there from Nicholson, just timed the
13:16lob lane and kind of spun off with it, that's something she does well,
13:21throws that right hand as she's moving off to the right,
13:27good amateur background of course, bronze medal in the world championships in 2016, that was at
13:32light welter, by the Tokyo Olympics she'd come down to featherweight, so seven kilos
13:40lighter, got to the quarterfinals where she lost to Karis
13:44Artingstuhl and that's a rematch we will hopefully see in the pros.
13:48Raven just needs to dress it up a little bit better, there's hardly any jabs that she's thrown,
14:04just you know if you're going to step in behind your backhand or throw the big hook, dress it up
14:09a little bit first because Sky's now just reading it and picking it off with a single shot, either
14:13the hops or the uppercut. That was a better right hand from Chapman,
14:19found a few seconds of round five and again she got through there,
14:23she got close enough to make contact with the right.
14:25Fight night brought to you by that prize gun.
14:55So
15:20and you can see the nature of the advice, they just wanted to kick that upper body on the move.
15:26Round six, dip those knees, get under the jab, get up close,
15:29it's the second half of the fight and halfway you would say that Nicholson has a lead here.
15:36And Chapman has got to stick to the task, she's got to believe, keep the faith.
15:46Let's just have a look at how you're seeing this at home,
15:50four rounds to one in favor of Nicholson and splitting those first two rounds,
15:55that seems kind of fair enough to me because there wasn't really anything in any of them and
15:59I wouldn't argue strenuously with that, I think Nicholson has been the better fighter
16:03from midway through the third onwards. Chapman started that round well but I think the impression
16:08the judges would have been left with would have been the way that Nicholson finished it,
16:11so Chapman I think has got work to do in the second halves but she may well have expected that.
16:18Yeah I'd say so, I think she knows she's got to force the pace, keep the pressure on Nicholson,
16:22try and get her tired, hope she'll make mistakes but Chapman's the one working harder here,
16:27you know she's the one bouncing and moving and constantly resetting,
16:31actually Nicholson looks pretty comfortable. She's got a very relaxed style.
16:40Looking for that uppercut into the body, I don't think that really landed,
16:44she doesn't punch much in combination Nicholson but with the method she's got,
16:47she doesn't really need to. Chapman of course would be hoping that she would get close enough
16:52that she would force her to but she's able to keep it on the outside and win the fight
16:57with single shots essentially. Yeah just try and time her as she comes in with the uppercut
17:01with a straight backhand, you see she's using that jab almost like a flick just to try and goad
17:09Chapman into coming and then she's going to walk onto the left hand whether that's an uppercut or
17:13a straight left. These two minute rounds race by and another one has slipped by here when Nicholson
17:21has picked the better punches, the punches she throws as well from the outside they're easy to
17:27see for ringside judges. The bell goes at the end of the sixth.
17:42If you probably tally her punches up Nicholson she doesn't actually throw that much but they
17:46are very accurate, everything she throws almost I'd say like 80% of them land so.
17:52That's true actually you look at her punch completion percentage and it is very very high
17:57unusually high around about 40% in a lot of the fights of those that I've watched. Boxing is
18:02essentially a high failure rate sport isn't it, most of what you throw won't get there. Yeah she's
18:06very economical, she doesn't really throw anything unless she's very confident of landing it and like
18:10I said it's a lot of combinations, single shots really, Friday with the lead hand looking to
18:16walk him onto the backhand.
18:22Well Ben Whittaker we are being informed has left the arena and headed the hospital, he has to get
18:27that lower leg injury looked at, scanned possibly they need to work out exactly what has happened
18:34there. It was an extraordinary incident, no harm meant by Liam Cameron, he just leaned onto him
18:39they both disappeared over the top rope and there was really only one outcome at that point once it
18:44became obvious that Whittaker couldn't continue it was an accidental foul and it went to the cards
18:49and Cameron felt like he'd done enough over the first five rounds it was definitely going to get
18:56extremely interesting in the second half that's for sure but we didn't get to see it. Into round
19:02seven here Chapman has got to try and do something to knock Nicholson out of this
19:08rhythm, she just steps in there the Australian and let a one-two go.
19:14Braden came out at the start of the round and did great things, she was just jabbing the body every
19:18sky moves a lot, if you jab the body the body's a bit a bit less, I don't want to say
19:24movable but more stationary, that's the word I was looking for thanks man.
19:27Yeah I think with Chapman sometimes she's starting you know she's making a move but she's starting
19:38it from too far out, she's the feint move there trying to sneak half a yard and then make the
19:44move when she's kind of coming from too far out, Nicholson can see it take the step back then she
19:49finds herself in no man's land and that's what she's able to pick off.
19:59These kinds of stylistic matchups are always interesting because the formula is fairly
20:03straightforward, Chapman did manage to land with the left there as Nicholson hooked and moved off to
20:08right but just because it seems obvious what somebody should do it doesn't mean
20:13that it's easy to do it and it's only once you actually get in there
20:17that you'll know the scale of the task, you'll know what the task is you just don't
20:24know how hard it'll be and Nicholson does make it very very difficult.
20:30Chapman had a better round there I thought actually than some of the
20:33ones we've seen just previously, she did get tighter did get closer
20:40but the more eye-catching punches probably did come once again from Nicholson.
20:47Deep breaths, get across to the body, get across to the body.
21:01As Andy mentioned earlier on, Andy Scott, it is hot in here because
21:06part of the side of the building has been removed so the night air is flooding in in a way that it
21:13hasn't on other occasions that we have been here so the temperature will be around about mid-20s
21:20high-20s and it's kind of trapped in here too so underneath those lights up in that
21:24ring they're going to be feeling this. As the fights go on I think that might be a
21:32fact and it's something I mentioned to Jack when he came in.
21:37Chapman getting nice and low there onto the inside throwing that right hand.
21:56Again there's a nice kind of bob and weave there but I think really achieved too much because
22:03it was quite a long way out where she did it and once she finished it she wasn't really
22:06any closer to Nicholson than she was when she started that's the
22:13that's one of the obstacles here as you outlined in the previous round about.
22:18Yeah it's it's not really a case of what Chapman should be doing that she's not doing it's more a
22:23case of what Nicholson's doing well she's just not really allowing her to get the distance as
22:28she's moving she's she's making a rough set she's offsetting her and she's got to reset again and
22:32try and get in and try to get close so she can make that move and then just as she does get a
22:38bit static packing she hits her with a left hand down the middle or up the middle you know she's
22:45very good she can she can throw it around the side she can loop it underneath she can throw it straight.
22:50There's a good right hand there from Chapman about 20 seconds ago she moved in through it
22:54made contact and then just moved onto the shoulder and kind of shut down her own space a little bit
22:59which was slightly unfortunate because she got into where she needed to be again they're just
23:03pushing Nicholson back into the ropes and she just has to keep going here Chapman just really pour it
23:08on in these remaining couple of rounds and force the issue as much as possible not that she hasn't
23:13been up until this point but it's possible that Nicholson will tie her.
23:20Yeah it's been good pressure it's been consistent pressure you'd be hope she'd be certainly be
23:25hoping if you were in Chapman's corner at some in around now Nicholson will start to slow down.
23:33This pace I honestly don't think that'll happen. We saw Chris Eubank earlier on getting his
23:39hands wrapped and now just working the pads in what is a cavernous
23:45backstage area being trained by Jonathan Banks for this fighting train.
23:50Gennady Golovkin against Kamil Jeremeta a few years ago a fight that Golovkin won when Jeremeta retired after
23:58seven rounds Eubank saying that that essentially was one of the main reasons
24:03why they teamed up together it's interesting during the week Matt talking to Teddy Atlas
24:07about the fact that Eubank has been through numerous trainers now and he said that for him
24:12it's because he's still trying to find his identity as a fighter. Yeah trying to find his own style I
24:17guess is what he meant with that as well you know if you're constantly changing trainers adjusting
24:22stuff because every trainer wants to put their prints on you what they think you need to do less
24:26of them or what you need to do more of and then you always get caught between styles a little bit
24:31never really find your own. So tonight
24:39Chapman I think has narrowed the gap a bit in the two rounds that we've just seen
24:43I'm not saying she won those two rounds but they were closer rounds than four and five and six
24:52potentially but she needs to close this out strong she needs to win these last couple. Yeah that right
24:59hand there that wide long loop right hand got blocked for the gloves but she landed a couple of those
25:04in the round previous bang on the chin. You've got it comfortably for Nicholson watching on
25:12from home a five-point margin giving her every round apart from the second
25:16and the eighth which has been scored 10-10 on the scorecard there.
25:26A good shot over lovely right hand landed by Chapman. Nicholson took it well. That all came
25:32off the double jab just if she works behind the jab she'll be able to close that space down a
25:37little bit and you don't necessarily need it to land but it just creates the space for the
25:42backhand to come across. I think it's possible that the ringside judges might have it slightly
25:48tighter than they'll be able to send it at home but I do think that Nicholson is winning this
25:53fight but if Chapman could win this round and win the tenth there have been some close rounds
25:57particularly the first two and even the round before this was it was a closer round. I agree I
26:08mean that could that scorecard that the view seeing that could be accurate but I could also
26:13see a couple of rounds closer than that as well. I think I give the first two rounds a draw and
26:19the round before to Chapman.
26:26That's a nice combination there though from Nicholson just to close out the round.
26:31So one remaining here and this fight for the WBC featherweight title the first female
26:39world title fight of Riyadh season and I think both fighters have really felt the responsibility
26:45of that during the course of the week but both have been quick to say as well that
26:53when the bell goes all of that really becomes irrelevant it's something that you would look back
26:57on afterwards but not something you can think about at the time and there's that right hand
27:04that clipped the chin there of Nicholson. Yeah and Nicholson come back with the left hand herself but
27:08like Tasha said coming in behind the double jab is what created that even though the jab didn't
27:14really land he just closed the distance and then the right hand was a good shot obviously Nicholson
27:19replied with their own.
27:27So these two will be called to the center of the ring for a touch of gloves tenth and final round
27:32Sky Nicholson the defending WBC champion in the blue, Raven Chapman in the black. Chapman must
27:37finish strong here she's going to need to have taken that previous round she'll leave this one as well.
27:54Nicholson thought about throwing the hook and stepping off to the right
27:56hand side in the end didn't really need to.
27:58Nice left hand there for Nicholson she's found the range with it nicely didn't she.
28:09Yeah again double jab didn't hit anything on Chapman but just jab in the space
28:14helped to close the distance and then the straight left was a good shot.
28:17She's comfortable now she's just having fun in there.
28:20She knows that Raven needs to come.
28:31Picking that left hand well there Nicholson off the back of
28:35Chapman's into the final minute of the contest.
28:39That was a bit of anything you can do I can do better.
28:50Good left hand there again from Nicholson and you get the impression that she could
29:09box at this kind of pace for a good few rounds longer she is difficult to knock out of that
29:15kind of rhythm that she settled into really from round three onwards tries Chapman might
29:21and she certainly has tried and it's not that she hasn't had some success but
29:26Nicholson has a method and she employs it very very effectively the bell goes at the end of the
29:30fight the break between the two Scott Nicholson will be confident that she has retained her
29:36title there by our reckoning from where we're sitting that is what has
29:40happened it was a good competitive fight Chapman had a plan she tried to employ it
29:44all the way through but Nicholson could well be one of these fighters who people look at
29:52and they feel like it's kind of obvious how you beat her you get on top of it you rough her up
29:57you make her uncomfortable but it's easier said than done. Exactly easy from where we're sitting
30:02but when you're in there you've got to you're the person that has to close the distance and your
30:06feet aren't quite quick enough a lot easier said than done. Yeah the rings are kind of small on
30:13telly but when you're in there they are quite big sometimes they can feel small if you're
30:17you're the person chasing sorry running away but I think she just give herself space every time
30:22she came she hooked around and all through the uppercut and just spun and always kept
30:28a good enough space where if she could move back twice or she could spin and be in the center.
30:33Yeah she's good at controlling the distance she's good at using her physical advantages the reach
30:37you know feet quite wide apart lead hand quite low she can hook up it
30:42throw it off the middle you know try to walk onto the backhand then as well.
30:49So that's how you've got it at home you've got two drawed rounds in there and one to Chapman
30:54it's the rest to Nicholson the worst of tight rounds the first couple were tight.
31:02I don't personally see how you can find more than four for Raven Chapman.
31:08But it was a good effort from her nonetheless a step up for her I find that she's been chasing
31:13for a while and she will rebound from this the stronger I'm sure if this doesn't go her way we
31:20don't want to preempt anything it could be a dangerous game but I think will Nicholson not
31:25to get this then it would be it would be quite surprising.
31:43And it would of course represents a win for Mattroom over Queensbury and they have been very
31:50Ladies and gentlemen after 10 two minute rounds of boxing we go to the judges score cards
31:57Judge Samantha Bollner scores it 99 to 91 and both judges Kieran McCann and Moises Mellum scored the
32:06same 98 to 92 all in favor of your winner by unanimous decision and still women's WBC featherweight
32:19champion of the world future undisputed Sky Nicholson. So Sky Nicholson retains her title
32:29by margins of nine rounds to one.
